Conan O'Brien's first public act since he left 'The Tonight Show' is a tweet
Two hours ago, Conan O'Brien apparently decided to follow in the footsteps of the former governor of Alaska and decided to join Twitter.
"Today I interviewed a squirrel in my backyard and then threw to commercial. Somebody help me," his first tweet went.
Twitter lists the @conanobrien page as a "verified account," and his buddy and former blogger, Aaron Bleyaert, also stood up for it on his twitter page. The bio also offers some support: "I had a show. Then I had a different show. Now I have a Twitter account."
The Times attempted to reach O'Brien's publicist for further confirmation, but then we noticed while waiting for the return e-mail that in the span of 49 minutes, 33,000 more people had signed up to follow the red-headed man affectionately known as Coco. Not to mention that it had more than doubled the number of followers for "The Jay Leno Show" page.
In fact, in the two hours since the tweet was posted, the recently departed and increasingly popular "Tonight Show" host gained over 78,000 followers and, so far, has not returned the favor.
Coco follows no one. This is just the beginning.

I have a feeling that it's less "Coco follows no one" and more "Coco doesn't exactly know how to use Twitter quite yet." I'm thrilled about his account and I hope he actually uses it :)

I don't ask that Conan follows me. How could you actually follow and read that many tweets anyway. I just really love our Coco.

Honestly, genuinely, no joke: NBC would be wise to line up Leno's replacement ASAP. No one in the under 40 demo wants to watch him after what went down. I'm hoping Conan can initiate El Coco Revolucion on Funnyordie...!

I think that Conan is gaining momentum with fans worldwide thanks to his new twitter account, so that's good.
Also, he is feeling what it's like to be unemployed. Now that transition will only bolster his sympathy towards every one going through hard times.
I say this spontaneous outburst is a cry for work and sympathy. Isn't this a fragment of today's zeitgeist? I find great beauty in this article.
Two thumbs up for Conan.
Get that man back on the air.
