Thursday TV Highlights: The study group gets a new member on ‘Community’

BUDDY: After winter break, the study group gets a new addition (Jack Black) on a new episode of the comedy ‘Community,’ at 8 p.m. on NBC. SERIES

Carnie Wilson: Unstapled: The singer-songwriter with the pop group Wilson Phillips, daughter of Beach Boy Brian Wilson and host of ‘The Newlywed Game’ is featured in this new unscripted series (5 and 8 p.m. Game Show Network).

Community: After winter break, the study group gets a new addition (Jack Black) (8 p.m. NBC).

Bones: Brennan and Booth investigate human remains with extraterrestrial attributes (8 p.m. Fox).

30 Rock: Jack (Alec Baldwin) tries to undo the damage he caused on New Year’s Eve when he left a drunken phone message for an ex-lover (9 p.m. NBC). A second new episode follows at 9:30.

Grey’s Anatomy: Addison (Kate Walsh) returns to Seattle to perform a procedure on Mark’s pregnant daughter (Leven Rambin) (9 p.m. ABC). The story continues at 10 p.m. on spinoff series ‘Private Practice,’ as Mark follows Addison to Oceanside Wellness in hope of helping his daughter.

The Mentalist: Rigsby (Owain Yeoman) goes undercover as an alumnus at a high school reunion when the team investigates a double homicide (10 p.m. CBS).

Manhunters: Fugitive Task Force: The unscripted series returns with back-to-back episodes (10 and 10:30 p.m. A&E).

Archer: In this new animated series, a suave master spy and his double-crossing cohorts take on global espionage and each other (10 p.m. FX). A second new episode follows at 10:30.

Project Runway: Heidi Klum, mentor Tim Gunn and judges Michael Kors and Nina Garcia return to New York for a second season on the Lifetime Network (10 p.m.). The season premiere of sister series ‘Models of the Runway’ follows at 11.

MOVIES

The Bridge on the River Kwai: David Lean’s classic 1957 version of the Pierre Boulle novel earned seven Oscars, including best picture and director. Alec Guinness was named best actor for his portrayal of a British colonel leading fellow prisoners of war in building a railroad bridge for the Japanese as an escapee American officer (William Holden) schemes to destroy it. Jack Hawkins and Sessue Hayakawa costar (5 p.m. TCM).

SPORTS

College basketball: Seton Hall at Georgetown (4 p.m. ESPN); Providence at DePaul (6 p.m. ESPN2); Stanford at Washington (7:30 p.m. FS Prime); Gonzaga at St. Mary’s (8 p.m. ESPN2).

Hockey: The Ducks visit the Kings (7:30 p.m. FSN).
