FAMILY: Lilly (Kathryn Morris, above) finally meets her stepmother (guest star Mare Winningham) in a new episode of 'Cold Case' at 9 p.m. on CBS.

SERIES

Chuck: In the two-hour season premiere, Chuck (Zachary Levi) takes his new abilities to school to train as a full-fledged spy, but he flunks out, losing Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski). Adam Baldwin also stars (9 p.m. NBC).

Masterpiece Classic: Judi Dench reprises her critically acclaimed role as Matty in "Return to Cranford," a two-part sequel to last season's acclaimed miniseries. The opening episode finds Lady Ludlow (Francesca Annis) awaiting the arrival of her son (Rory Kinnear), whose actions disrupt the sleepy village (9 p.m. KCET).

Big Love: Bill (Bill Paxton) and his family are preparing to open Blackfoot Magic Casino in the season premiere. Elsewhere, Adaleen (Mary Kay Place) has a revelation for Nicki (Chloe Sevigny), while Lois (Grace Zabriskie) offers Frank (Bruce Dern) part of her business. Ginnifer Goodwin also stars (9 p.m. HBO).

Madhouse: Auto-racing archrivals Burt Myers and Junor Miller carry on a feud between their families on the racetrack (10 p.m. History).

SPECIALS

Inside Cocaine Submarines: This new special focuses on the newest secret weapon employed by drug cartels (7 and 10 p.m. National Geographic).

Cosmic Collisions: This new special offers an examination of the meteors and asteroids orbiting the Earth and their potential to collide with the planet (8 p.m. Discovery).

The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special: In 3-D! On Ice!: Morgan Spurlock hosts this hourlong documentary about the animated series, which includes an examination of how the show has become a global phenomenon and a chat with the cast, writers and guest stars (8:30 p.m. Fox).

MOVIES

A Trace of Danger: An attorney returns to her hometown to defend a former boyfriend accused of murder in this new TV mystery starring Emmanuelle Vaugier and Ivan Sergei (8 p.m. ION).

The Wishing Well: A wishing well gives a journalist a new life in a small town in this TV fantasy starring Jordan Ladd and Jason London (9 p.m. Hallmark).

SPORTS

Football: AFC wild card: The Baltimore Ravens visit the New England Patriots (10 a.m. KCBS). NFC wild card: The Green Bay Packers visit the Arizona Cardinals (1:30 p.m. Fox).

College basketball: Washington State at Arizona State (12:30 p.m. FSN). (4:30 p.m. FS Prime).Oregon State at Oregon (7:30 p.m. FS Prime).

Pro basketball: The Miami Heat visits the Clippers (12:30 p.m. FS Prime); the Milwaukee Bucks visit the Lakers (6:30 p.m. FSN).
