SERIES

Human Target: Adapted from a DC Comics book and graphic novel, this new action series follows a private security guard (Mark Valley) who saves his clients' lives even when it means turning himself into a target. Assisting him are his business partner (Chi McBride) and a hired gun (Jackie Earle Haley) (8 p.m. Fox).

Cold Case: After a private investigator's remains are found buried in the cement foundation of a demolished building, Lilly (Kathryn Morris) and her team reopen the man's 1974 murder case and discover the victim had uncovered several unsavory things for -- and about -- his last few clients. Richard Moll, Shera Danese and former NFL player Matthew Willig guest star in this new episode (9 p.m. CBS).

24: As Season 8 opens in New York, Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) finds himself drawn back into the action after he learns of a plot to assassinate a prominent Middle East peacekeeper while in Washington; President Taylor (Cherry Jones) reluctantly asks disgraced former President Logan (Gregory Itzin) for help with a crisis (9 p.m. Fox).

Big Love: As if he didn't have enough politics to deal with at home, Bill (Bill Paxton) considers running for state senator, while Barb (Jeanne Tripplehorn) is troubled by Sarah and Scott's (Amanda Seyfried, Aaron Paul) plans for a civil wedding (9 p.m. HBO).

The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty: The brothers remain in two camps after the decision to cancel their concert in the series finale (10 p.m. A&E).
