Fox News confirms Sarah Palin is joining as a contributor [Updated]

Sarah Palin might not be taking on Oprah, but the one-time GOP vice presidential candidate has made good on predictions that she has a future in television.

The former Alaska governor is joining Fox News as a contributor, an executive at the cable news network said today, confirming news first reported by the New York Times. Palin will appear as a commentator on programs across the network, joining a lineup of pundits that includes fellow conservatives Karl Rove, Newt Gingrich and Mike Huckabee. She will also help host a recurring series that profiles everyday Americans.

With her hiring, Fox News is bringing on a high-profile figure whose controversial pronouncements on issues such as healthcare reform have helped drive sharp partisan debate. The move is likely to boost speculation that Palin, who left office before the end of her first term as governor, wants a platform to remain in the public eye in order to make a bid for the presidency in 2012.

[Updated at 12:19 p.m.: “Gov. Palin has captivated everyone on both sides of the political spectrum, and we are excited to add her dynamic voice to the Fox News lineup,” Bill Shine, the network’s executive vice president of programming, said in a statement.

“I am thrilled to be joining the great talent and management team at Fox News,” Palin said. “It’s wonderful to be part of a place that so values fair and balanced news.”]

[Updated at 12:32 p.m.: Palin will make her first appearance as a contributor Tuesday night on "The O'Reilly Factor," The Times has learned.]

Am i missing something??If you die hard liberals did not view Palin as a threat you would not be so demonstrative in your lousy incorrect and childish comments. First of all no one is perfect including the current president of the united States. Palin was a very popular govenor and she is smarter than her detractors will ever admit to.Bottom line..because she is a pro-life conservative with moral values the liberals cant stand her. I say too bad as a lot of Americans including independants and democrats are not happy with direction we are headed. If you dont beleive this, watch what happens next november.Would all you far lefters destroy Hillary if she suddenly changed to pro-lifer??? I think we all know the answer.

Sarah Palin is the kind of person the filmmaker Elia Kazan warned us about 20 years ago. He pointed out that the greatest danger to our democracy would be that someone with no intellect or ability to understand the complexities of our world would be able to acquire political power through nothing more than their personal charm and good looks. He was talking about someone exactly like Sarah Palin, who has parlayed a degree of charm and physical appeal into the appearance of political importance. For that reason, the people who like an support her pay no attention to her monumental shortcomings and divisive remarks which are specifically designed to take attention off of her own inadequacies.

We will be happy to see her and hear what she has to say. Some of these people that have already made comments need to pay more attention. Give her a chance and check Fox's ratings. They do not have bad ratings.

Has anyone heard Sarah Palin make remarks about "light skinned Negroes" or "Negro dialects"?

this will be the best new comedy show on tv. i have never seen anyone so dumb as this poor woman

I will admit that I am afraid of Sarah Palin. She scares the hell out of me, and she should scare every American who believes in genuine freedom, tolerance and compassion for our fellow Americans. Why? because Palin is one of the most divisive, demagogic personalities we've seen since Joseph McCarthy. Sarah Palin wields political influence today because she has the support of the anti-intellectual, simple-minded mob that is easily swayed by a little personal style and charm. This is a crowd that is willing to forgive even the most stupendous errors and vacuous behavior in return for a pretty smile and a wink. Any so-called "liberal" who says they're not afraid of Palin is guilty of complacency. The only way we're going to keep this country from being pushed back into the 19th century is to turn out and vote against these religiously inspired, right-wing maniacs who think mankind walked actually alongside living dinosaurs.

You liberals crack me up. You cry wolf when another network takes the upper hand and actually does real news. GO SARAH. My mom loved Obama, but now she's mad at the direction that he is taking our country. The kicker is that she watches all those Obama loving news channels. Go figure.

Fox, the opinion network (according to the network's execs themselves) that lables its programs as if it were "news" is geting yet another quitter (in addition to Glen Beck of CNN, Bret Hume of ABC, Oliver North and so on) so they can get paid more to give their opinion about the world according to their narrow translation of it so as to excite the so-called "conservatives" who know nothing about what's going on-in that world except from those conservative commentators. You know the kind? The conservative commentators you'll find in countries like Iran, Russia, North Korea, China and so on....basically different names for the enemy but label them as "liberal infedels" or whatever, but the message is the same..."the world is the enemy and we are righteous and anybody who disagrees is our enemy". Awesome.

I didn't know Fox was hiring??? Why don't they hire me???I know nothing about forign policy, or how to spell for that matter!!! Why don't i qualify??? I can say "O'biden" Where do i sign up????

Fox News is interested in ratings and this WILL boost ratings. This is why Fox News is #1 and CNN is not. I don't agree with Sarah Palin, or ven thinks she's that smart, but I can almost guarantee I will watch to see how she does.

"I'm quittin' the job you all here in the great State of Alaska elected me to do because I think I can make more important contributions to the country by workin' on Fox TV, and also too a lot more money."

This is fantastic. There will be tons of clips to mash together once she announces she is running for office...

More power to the teabaggers! They are dividing the GOP. The more that happens, the easier it will be for liberals and progressives to re-direct our nation after decades of misguidance.

You know what show I'd like to see Sarah Palin on? The Daily Show. Funteims to be had there. For sure.

After reading this board and some of the comments on it I can say this. Liberals do not like her and conservatives do. Duh. I both like and not like her. I do not share any of her views. They seem to be both small minded and narrow. She seems not to have clue on many topics and she does not care. She does echo the views of so many people have across the country who feel their country is fading away. They are correct with that view because it is. The future calls and most of us want to move towards it and not away from it. But I do like her for one reason and it is the reason most will not say because it will look bad to say. She smoking hot. To have given birth to what, 5 children and look like that? Great genes, whatever. We have never had this smoking hot of a woman in the political world in this country. If she did not look the way she does she would have no platform to do what she does. Palin would be another conservative and that would be about that. But she is smoking hot and I for one love she is around and will not go away. Besides she is funny as hell as just being herself. You have to appreciate the comedy. Sad, yeah but come on she delivers always.
To those who think we are scared of her no way. I for one want her to run against Obama in 1012 win Oklahoma, Alabama, Alaska, Idaho, Uath and a couple of others. Give some false hope to those who want their country back. If they want that America to go watch TV Land. Leave It To Beaver waits for you.

CONGRATS to Fox news!!! Who knew that you could reach this level of a complete idiot. I can't wait for the You Tube collections of bloopers!

......perfect journalistic marriage!!! Remember: "Don't get out foxed".

It's funny seeing all these lib's hating!!!

Fox News Channel. More viewers than MSNBC and CNN combined. Interesting.

Palin's views:
on international politics: She's never been outside the US.
on campaigning: this is the " Real America".
on birth control: " abstinence" while her teenage daughter got pregnant.
on evolution: Im a creationist.
on public office: I better quit, I'm not making any money
on family values: lets get rid of Levi. No father for my grandson.
on gay people: I know a few, I "tolerate" them.
on source of news: I don't know what newspapers I read.
on her will: I'm a pitbull with lipstick.

this are the only few I could think of. what kind of idiot is she? or is she just from a past century?
Good for Fox, they get what they deserve!
