Fox News confirms Sarah Palin is joining as a contributor [Updated]

Sarah Palin might not be taking on Oprah, but the one-time GOP vice presidential candidate has made good on predictions that she has a future in television.

The former Alaska governor is joining Fox News as a contributor, an executive at the cable news network said today, confirming news first reported by the New York Times. Palin will appear as a commentator on programs across the network, joining a lineup of pundits that includes fellow conservatives Karl Rove, Newt Gingrich and Mike Huckabee. She will also help host a recurring series that profiles everyday Americans.

With her hiring, Fox News is bringing on a high-profile figure whose controversial pronouncements on issues such as healthcare reform have helped drive sharp partisan debate. The move is likely to boost speculation that Palin, who left office before the end of her first term as governor, wants a platform to remain in the public eye in order to make a bid for the presidency in 2012.

[Updated at 12:19 p.m.: “Gov. Palin has captivated everyone on both sides of the political spectrum, and we are excited to add her dynamic voice to the Fox News lineup,” Bill Shine, the network’s executive vice president of programming, said in a statement.

“I am thrilled to be joining the great talent and management team at Fox News,” Palin said. “It’s wonderful to be part of a place that so values fair and balanced news.”]

[Updated at 12:32 p.m.: Palin will make her first appearance as a contributor Tuesday night on "The O'Reilly Factor," The Times has learned.]

Well I already had Fox News on my no watch list ...but now they have sunk to a new low they might as well have just hired a donkey! A donkey is smarter than this group of haters ..I wonder how stupid Fox thinks we are???? Get your head out and put real people with real ideas that make sense when they open their mouths...people that you can respect and value...not the group of haters already on Fox...Fox news is no news..just rubbish!!!!!!

WOW! Fox lured back Peggy Hill from 'King of the Hill', to be a- jabberin'
on the TV about salmon season?

(...and didn't Sarah Failin' sue the entire universe of all known media -- including Fox -- when they got the facts correct on her political debacles??)

P-a-t-h-e-t-i-c AND h-i-l-a-r-i-o-u-s.

Well at list she won me a $50 bet I made when she resigned as governor. I have never had a problem with folks that like Palin, in so much as they agree with her views. What I find strange and unsettling is when some find her qualified to be President. Her life story is really all about being a fame chaser and it looks like she got what she wanted in the first place, TV personality. I do believe if her comments as a contributor are spontaneous and not scripted she will eventually fall on her own sword.

Move over Hannity, Glenn Beck, Billo the clown - You just been out-bimbo'd.

More of the same rightie quotes like this....."smile at the liberals who just don't get it. They are frightened of her

Correction. We are frightned that so many ill-informed, xenophobic and downright stupid, selfish people think she has the wisdom and intelligence to lead, let alone effect meaningful change. The only change I hear from her is the change rattling around in her designer purse.

Wow such venom coming from the liberals. She's still a much better leader than the liberal media messiah (notice lower case m), whether you like it or not. Just get your head out of sand, or is the messiah's light too bright to actually be able to see clearly what he is doing to our country. WAY TO GO SARAH.

How appropriate! Palin found a 'news organization' with as much credibility as she has...none. Her and Bill O'Reily would make a great pair, they will do well catering to an audience as ignorant as they are...

"You go girl! I have to smile at the liberals who just don't get it. They are frightened of her..."

This is the knee-jerk reaction of the right. No one is scared of Palin. They are scared this country might have enough idiots like you to actually put her into office again.

It astounds me how deluded some people can be, thinking Palin is some kind of prophet of small-town America. Even the guys that picked her to be McCain's VP have admitted that she was a desperate last-minute fill-in for Leiberman and that she was so dumb she had to be briefed on foreign relations topics such as WWI and II, Vietnam, and even the current war on terror. Palin has nothing positive to offer anyone or anything. Anyone that supports her is either willfully ignorant or blindly partisan.

Another wannabee joining faux news. No big surprise. She'll get to say all sorts of unfounded, ignorant, irrational, ridicuous things and never be challenged on it.

(By the way: Don't know what "faux" means? It means false or fake.)

I wonder how long it will be before she quits this job.

Palin is a joke and the world is laughing at America for even paying any attention to her.

Thanks Fox! The fund raising arm of the Democratic Party thanks you. This should be a train wreck of unmitigated proportions. This is truly must see TV.
I can't wait until they send her on assignment to Russia.

There seems to be a small minority of small-minded Republican conservative freaks commenting here. But they continue to lose credibility and power, because basically, they are insane and cannot reason with logic (just like their diva girl, Palin).

The lineup of ghouls at Fox is something straight out of Paddy Chayefsky's prescient "Network" (1976).

As for Palin's viability as a presidential candidate -- given her base, the cold reality of electoral college mathematics does not translate into anything resembling a victory.

Just heard the news and thought I'd check it out here. Started to read the comments and well, lost faith in my fellow Americans. Really ? this is what you are upset about? The 10% unemployment rate doesn't make you mad? The increasing debt to your childrens childrens doesn't make you mad? You think Sara, joining FOX as a contributor is the worst thing that's happened? Wow - it must be nice to be you.

Great news for Leno, Letterman, John Stewart, Colbert, SNL. Talk about a gold mine of comedy material. Thanks Sara and Fox News for giving American's what they want, great monologue material after a long hard day at work. Fox news, it's the comedy show that keeps on giving.

OMG,...now thats hysterical.....who needs Jay Leno or Conan O'Brian,.... when you have the comedy of FOX (pronounced Faux) News.

Well,..hmm,..maybe she thought she was applying for the "Saturday Night Live Weekend Update" position?

Man, I really hope this woman becomes president in 2012 - It will be the ultimate dream for the good ol', small town, tea bagging, REAL americans, you know , the ones whose whole purpose in life is to drive giant SUV's fueled by TERRORSTS to go to WalMart and buy things made by COMMUNISTS, and then go home and watch the news network owned by a FOREIGNER - God Bless Them! This is THEIR COUNTRY and THEIRS ONLY! And when we've completely pissed away our wealth and ALL THE JOBS HAVE BEEN SHIPPED TO 3rd world countries and we are starving in the streets, at least these REAL PATRIOTIC AMERICANS can sleep at night knowing "At least our president isn't a black guy"

Whatever pretense of intelligent objectivity FOX News once enjoyed is now fully exposed as a pathetic masquerade. I suppose it was inevitable that Palin would cash in with this TV deal and nobody should be surprised. That said, I am alarmed by the continuing extreme, anti-government rhetoric that is being promoted by this network all in name of building its ratings and fattening the wallets of its celebrity commentators. At a certain point, one wonders if the FCC will eventually have to step in and ask the network to be more responsible and less incendiary. These people all get a room together and seem to lose site of the fact that they're Americans and that their dreadful behavior is rapidly approaching the threshold of sedition. Having an opposing opinion is great, but the relentless promotion of fear and mistrust of government is unacceptable for a publicly licensed network.

“I am thrilled to be joining the great talent and management team at Fox News,” Palin said. “It’s wonderful to be part of a place that so values fair and balanced news.”

HEE HAW Hicktards, I bet every walmart is celebrating hahaha. No one cares about Palin.
