Fox News confirms Sarah Palin is joining as a contributor [Updated]

Sarah Palin might not be taking on Oprah, but the one-time GOP vice presidential candidate has made good on predictions that she has a future in television.

The former Alaska governor is joining Fox News as a contributor, an executive at the cable news network said today, confirming news first reported by the New York Times. Palin will appear as a commentator on programs across the network, joining a lineup of pundits that includes fellow conservatives Karl Rove, Newt Gingrich and Mike Huckabee. She will also help host a recurring series that profiles everyday Americans.

With her hiring, Fox News is bringing on a high-profile figure whose controversial pronouncements on issues such as healthcare reform have helped drive sharp partisan debate. The move is likely to boost speculation that Palin, who left office before the end of her first term as governor, wants a platform to remain in the public eye in order to make a bid for the presidency in 2012.

[Updated at 12:19 p.m.: “Gov. Palin has captivated everyone on both sides of the political spectrum, and we are excited to add her dynamic voice to the Fox News lineup,” Bill Shine, the network’s executive vice president of programming, said in a statement.

“I am thrilled to be joining the great talent and management team at Fox News,” Palin said. “It’s wonderful to be part of a place that so values fair and balanced news.”]

[Updated at 12:32 p.m.: Palin will make her first appearance as a contributor Tuesday night on "The O'Reilly Factor," The Times has learned.]

In the end, all she wanted to be was a newscaster.

Sort of like joining the Micky Mouse Club. You betcha!

Politifact.com, the nonpartisan, Pulitzer Prize-winning Truth-O-Meter run by the St. Petersburg Times, says that Palin's assertion of death panels won an online contest as the biggest political lie of the year.

My first thought was "thank God, if she joins Fox she won't run in 2012." I then thought "what in the hell does she have to talk about?"

I wonder if Sarah Palin now plans to become a blonde to better fit in with that network's proscribed look for female commentators and anchors.

Fox News becomes a joke if you know what I mean. It's really not a news channel but a comedy station.

This is Absolutely Hilarious!! To list her in with the likes of Carl(The Cheater) Rove and Preacher (Catch and Release) Huck, is being to kind. Those folks have a brain! she should be compared to the likes of Mis-information agents BillO, Hanitty and Glen (The Idiot) Beck! Fox doesn't report news they make it up.

Why a reputable media outlet would retain a "loose cannon" such as Palin is beyone me. In my opinion the woman brings no value and will only ultimately undermine the credibility of Fox News as she is clearly only focused on her own "agenda".

As long as she keeps wearing those short skirts...

So, who will be writing what she'll be contributing? She certainly cannot do it herself.

Palin joins a large group of contributors on Fox News where the main requirement is "It's all about ME!!!". She doesn't care about average Americans, none of the people in American politics care about the middle class. They only care about their pocket books.

You go girl! I have to smile at the liberals who just don't get it. They are frightened of her and think they know why, but their reasoning is totally whacked. It's why they try to dumb her down when she is actually quite smart and demonize her as weak when she is actually quite strong. She has convictions that resonate with a lot of people. The liberals know they can't frighten her and that scares them even more. She just keeps getting stronger as she feeds off their fear. Ohhhh, big smile!!!

So happy to hear this, She is a wonderful Person & who knows someday Our President , We also feel that Fox is the only True News today
Thank you

This woman is ridiculous and has NOTHING to offer. she is a joke and it is just like Fox to employ this moron

another joke on the american public gawd what next judge dancing with the stars

I have felt Republican political handlers were making plans for Sarah Palin for quite some time. This does now appears to be true. Robert Murdock Republican, and owner of Fox News, and the multiple conservative conglomerates he owns seem to be working to aide the Republican Party and Sarah Palin for keeping her in continued public exposure. It does seem like we will have to all wait to see how plans and her exposure unravels. Is it money for Sarah Palin that's important? Or is this planning a posssible run for 2012 Presidential run? Guess we shall see? If this is Republican plan for her to run as 2012 Presidential candidate, lots of huge problems. History of Sarah Palin's whole political career has revealed she lies to public. She will never admit she was wrong. For now public will have to watch and wait. Sarah Palin will most assuredly make lots of money.

gawd when we thought we had rid of her here come again ja ja ja ja she is joke he book was joke her nomination for vice pres was a joke the republicans are joke and not to far now fox is a joke wow go get em palinjoke

Looks like we have a bunch of scared pansies complaining again. The same one who love their Racist, socialist President obama. Call us teabaggers all you want but we will be heard, we will fight this administration into the ground and we will take back America. As far as taking her 6 years to get her Journalism degree. wow at least she has proof she actually attended. No one created a position just so she could have a job and she proudly presents her birth certificate. I see a couple have asked what does she have to contribute? Well she will work to clear out the tax cheats, the fraudulent liers and the back door politics we currently have.
