Jimmy Kimmel puts on a big chin and mocks Jay Leno [Updated]

I guess we know whose team Jimmy Kimmel is on.

The ABC late-night host donned a gray wig and an extra-large prosthetic chin for Tuesday night's episode of "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and proceeded to relentlessly mock Jay Leno.

"Let it be known I'm taking over all the shows on late-night," Kimmel-as-Leno said.

Kimmel's get-up appeared to be a reaction to the statement Conan O'Brien released earlier in the day in which he said he would not participate in the "destruction" of "The Tonight Show." NBC on Sunday announced the network would move "The Jay Leno Show" into the 11:35 p.m. time period that is currently home to O'Brien's "Tonight Show" after the Olympics.

O'Brien on Tuesday said "'The Tonight Show' at 12:05 a.m. simply isn't 'The Tonight Show.'"

[Updated at 9:00 a.m.: Fans of Conan O'Brien across the country, meanwhile, showed their support by tuning in to "The Tonight Show." Tuesday's episode notched a 1.7 rating /7 share in adults 18-49 in Nielsen's 25 major markets with people meters -- up 40% from Monday's episode. O'Brien's demo rating was also double that of "Late Show with David Letterman.")

I think this is really disappointing. I think these 3 should be banning together, not mocking each other out.

What's the deal with Leno, anyway? Anyone else, if his show failed, would be looking at his final paycheck. Letterman was Carson's choice to replace him, and Leno got it. O'Brien takes over the Tonight Show, and now Leno's getting the first half hour back. He must have something on someone at NBC.

THATS WHAT THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN DOING ALL ALONG! Give the guy ratings, and he wouldn't be in the situation he's in now.

What is with these late night talk show hosts? They tear down anything and anyone in their path. Instead of maintaining a dignified silence, they'll do or say anything for a laugh. It's a pathology that decent people simply cannot understand. It doesn't seem to matter what the topic is: contract disputes, homicides, suspected child abuse, divorce, death--nothing is off limits to these jokers. I want to wash out their mouths with soap. Bring back re-runs of Johnny Carson--a truly decent comedian. Anything is better than the current clowns who pose as modern day commenters of the human condition with a sickening slice of hurtful sarcasm at all times. With the exception of Conan O'Brien, whose humor is at least self-deprecating, Jimmy Kimmel and his ilk can pound sand. Ugh.

Pretty sharp stuff.

Kimmel as Leno...One of the best put-on shows I've seen...How best to mock Mr Jay "I'm a real nice guy" Leno than a spot on satire.

Even Kimmel's interchanges with Cleto as Kevin with the bass lines, rim shots, off camera comments by Cleto/Kevin, were priceless (Don't forget Cleto's hat).

This should be a high watermark for Jimmy. Ya shoulda' been there.

Frankly, he's a lot better looking with the chin and hair. He should keep it.

Wow, it's nice to see Kimmel step up his game for once.

Conan O'Brien is an idiot. He's not clever or funny, just obnoxiously amusing. The big mistake NBC made was giving Conan the Tonight Show in the first place. What was he going to do? ABC and CBS were not going to hire him. Conan's a jerk. Not funny...

Joane Goode:

By what logic would Jay Leno be "banning together" with Conan O'Brien or with David Letterman? He's betrayed each of them in the past. His apparent goal is to remain host of the Tonight Show 4-evah. There are times in (real) life when people have legitimately divergent self-interests.

Seriously, good work Kimmel (for a change.)

People need to see Jay Leno for the person that he really is. He had his moment, used to be funny at some point in history, but it is time for him to retire and take up a hobby or something.

Hilarious. Clearly, Adrian, who posted on here earlier, is either A)old, B)devoid of a sense of humor, or C)both.
Conan is a riot. Ask anyone under 40 if Leno or Conan is funnier, and you'll see who wins. Who has the most buying power in the US? The young crowd. Translation? Keep Conan. If NBC goes with Leno, they're going with a dying breed....80 and 90 year old people who still think Lawrence Welk is a good, quality, wholesome show with good values. Ugh.

Jimmy's chin is bigger than Jesus now.

Personally, I think Jay Leno should be patently ashamed for his ongoing crusade to remain on the air! It really is time for this guy to bow out gracefully.

You know, Letterman had an opportunity to take his job 17 years ago, but he didn't and got his own show instead. That was done with class and style. Jay has no dignity at this point.

Here it is in a nutshell. Jay's 10pm show didn't work...period! In fact, it was downright horrible. In my opinion, the only reason he continued to work on The Tonight Show was because it was The Tonight Show. I think that was proven as soon as he lost that slot.

So, Jay...having some freakin' grace and step aside like a gentleman!! Can you imagine how you would have felt if you got The Tonight Show and then Letterman came in and stole it away from you?

If you, Jay, take over The Tonight Show again, I promise you that I will NEVER watch it again, no matter what guest you have on. And I will make sure that all my friends feel the same way.

Be a man, Jay!

I used to regularly switch between Leno and Letterman but then I got hooked on Jimmy Kimmel. I'd say 80% of his stuff is pretty funny and entertaining. Conan? I've forced myself to watch him at least half a dozen times and I'm sorry, just couldn't find anything funny.

Although, I thought last nights Kimmel was a bit uncomfortable and a bit strange. I kept thinking he was taking a major jab at Leno for doing something to piss him off.

Someone is jealous of Jay Leno, yeah, like it is Jay who is at fault here, not NBC. Nice one dip shi&&!

If you listen to Cleto and the band it is hysterical. Jimmy does a good Leno but Cleto does a perfect Kevin if maybe showing a little too much more intelligence than the real one does...

I really thought that the Jimmy Kimmel "parody" of Leno was 1) Stupid; 2) Awful; 3) Pointless and 4) Low Class. Hey Jimmy---Your impersonation of Leno sucks!!!! You should have just asked Frank Caliendo to do it!!!! Remember that next time. Also---I thought that YOU had more class than that. To me, you are nothing now, except for a BAD Impersonator. Period. You should stick to what you are good at....BEING YOU! YOU are truly FUNNY being YOU. But, you had to "cave" in to all the NBC stuff---and it just was not funny. Why? Because your impersonation of Leno Sucked!

For those of you that are too young to remember, this is not the first time that Jay has been a *****. Jay got his Tonight Show gig by being a thug to Carson and Letterman, then pretended to be an innocent bystander. Blamed it on his now dead manager. He is NOT the loveable little boy next door that he wants to present himself as ....and he is not funny either. If he is funny it is because he has stolen the bit from Letterman.
