This week's TV Movies

The hills are alive . . . Julie Andrews goes from novice nun to nanny to outwitting Nazis in WWII-era Austria in "The Sound of Music," director Robert Wise's tune-filled 1965 film of the Rodgers & Hammerstein classic. Christopher Plummer also stars. (ABC, 7 p.m.)

The silly shenanigans, crazy costumes and all-around hotness of "Attack of the Show's" geek-tested/geek-approved hostess-with-the-most-est Olivia Munn are on display in the special "Olivia '09: The Munn-Der Years." Set phasers to "drool." (G4, 7 p.m.)

Actor Robert De Niro, rock legend Bruce Springsteen, funnyman Mel Brooks, jazz great Dave Brubeck and opera star Grace Bumbry are feted -- and presented with some colorful neckwear -- at "The 32nd Annual Kennedy Center Honors." (CBS, 9 p.m.)

The documentary series "P.O.V." presents "Patti Smith: Dream of Life," an intimate portrait of the artist, poet and high priestess of punk rock -- and birthday girl -- shot by fashion photographer Steven Sebring over an 11-year period. (KCET, 9 p.m.)

Ring in the new with "NBC's New Year's Eve With Carson Daly," "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve With Ryan Seacrest 2010" or "Billboard's New Year's Eve Live" with Carmen Electra. (NBC, 10 and 11:30 p.m.; ABC, 10 and 11:30 p.m.; Fox, 11 p.m.)

The aforementioned Ms. Andrews proves there's still music in them thar hills when she hosts "From Vienna: The New Year's Celebration," featuring Georges Prêtre and the Vienna Philharmonic, on a new edition of "Great Performances." (9 p.m. KCET)

Robert Downey Jr. portrays The Times' very own Steve Lopez in the 2009 docudrama "The Soloist," based on Lopez's book about his burgeoning friendship with a homeless man (Jaime Foxx) who just so happens to be a classically trained musician. (HBO, 8 p.m.)

The new six-part docu-series "The Imploders" tracks the explosive exploits of the Idaho-based Kelly family, demolitions experts extraordinaire, as they travel from job site to job site laying waste to condemned buildings and other obsolete structures. (TLC, 10 p.m. Wed.)

Bob Eubanks and Stephanie Edwards return to host the 121st "Tournament of Roses" in Pasadena. You'll see amazing floats, snazzy marching bands -- and, we hope, the usual clear and sunny weather that makes us the envy of the nation. (KTLA, 8 a.m. Fri.)
