SERIES

NCIS: When the enlisted son of a retired colonel-turned-preacher (Joe Regalbuto) is found dead, the team thinks he may be the victim of a hate crime. Ralph Waite guest stars as Gibbs' dad in this new episode (8 p.m. CBS).

Psychic Kids: Children of the Paranormal: This series revolving around kids with alleged psychic abilities opens a new season with an episode in which teenagers Travis and Vicki team up with an investigator to try to shed new light on a missing-person case (9 p.m. A&E).

Dirty Jobs: Mike checks out a cow with a hole in its stomach (9 p.m. Discovery).

How the Earth Was Made: This new episode examines geological discoveries that reveal the Sahara desert had a dramatically different past that altered the course of human history (9 p.m. History).

The Good Wife: A judge known for handing down questionable sentences overturns a simple plea deal arranged by Alicia (Julianna Margulies), causing her to question his motives (10 p.m. CBS).

Paranormal State: Ryan Buell and his Paranormal Research Society team return for a new season with an episode wherein the investigators discover deaths took place inside the home of a New Jersey couple who report seeing apparitions (10 p.m. A&E).

Tabatha's Salon Takeover: Tabatha helps a chic neighborhood salon in Los Angeles who's owner has little head for business and a woeful lack of professionalism when it comes to setting the right tone for her stylists (10 p.m. Bravo).

Will Race Anything: In this new series, Dave Freiburger and Chad Reynolds race locals across America in all types of motor sports, from the absurd to the ludicrous (11 p.m. TRU).

SPECIALS

Mysteries of Mary Magdalene: In this new special scholars reveal how and why the early church was able to "reinvent" the identity of the mystery woman Mary Magdalene (5 and 8 p.m. National Geographic).

Funniest Commercials of the Year: 2009: Host Kevin Nealon showcases the year's most humorous commercials from around the world in this annual special (10 p.m. TBS).

MOVIES

The Scarlet Pimpernel: Leslie Howard ("Gone With the Wind," below) dons the cape of Baroness Orczy's creation in this 1935 swashbuckler. By day, he's a cool, calm, collected Englishman of leisure. By night, he's the daring rescuer of innocent aristocrats from the guillotine during the French Revolution. With Merle Oberon (3 p.m. TCM).

Gone With the Wind: This epic 1939 drama won eight Oscars, including best picture. Based on Margaret Mitchell's novel, it spans the years before, during and after the Civil War. Vivien Leigh stars as Scarlett O'Hara, a spoiled Southern belle dealing with the harsh conditions of the war and the attentions of the roguish Rhett Butler (Clark Gable). Olivia de Havilland and Leslie Howard also star (5 p.m. TCM).

SPORTS

College basketball: Gardner-Webb at Duke (4 p.m. ESPN2); New Mexico State at UCLA (7:30 p.m. FS Prime).

Pro basketball: The Lakers visit the Chicago Bulls (5 p.m. KCAL and WGN A).
