SPECIALS

In the Womb: Dogs: This special uses state-of-the-art visual effects and real-time 4-D ultrasound imagery to illustrate how dogs evolved from their domesticated wolf ancestors and how their fetal development makes them the most diverse species on Earth and something of a developmental wonder (7 and 10 p.m. National Geographic).

A Muppets Christmas: Letters to Santa: Kermit and company accidentally intercept three children's letters to St. Nick, and vow to hand-deliver them to the North Pole themselves with a little help from their friends. Whoopi Goldberg, Richard Griffiths, Steve Schirripa, Tony Sirico and Madison Pettis are among the human co-stars in this special (8 p.m. NBC).

Dreams Come True: A Celebration of Disney Animation: This new special recalls Disney animation on the big screen, dating back 75 years, and offers a preview of "The Princess and the Frog." Vanessa Williams hosts (8 p.m. ABC).
