ABC shuts Adam Lambert out of 'Kimmel': Is the FCC to blame?

That naughty American Music Awards performance isn't going to be behind Adam Lambert anytime soon.

Even after his well-received performance on "The Early Show" last week, ABC continues to feel uncomfortable around Lambert. His Dec. 17 "Jimmy Kimmel Live" appearance was canceled today--news Lambert himself delivered on his Twitter page an hour ago.

The performance on Kimmel's live stage was scheduled before Lambert made his now infamous debut on the AMAs on Nov. 22.  In one of his tweets about the matter, Lambert told his fans not to blame ABC but rather "It's the FCC heat."

It's not clear whether ABC told Lambert to put the blame there or if the "American Idol" runner-up is making his own assumptions. But we do know the following: The FCC doesn't monitor programming after 10 p.m. Don't believe us? The following is an excerpt from its website:

"The FCC has determined, with the approval of the courts, that there is a reasonable risk that children will be in the audience from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., local time. Therefore, the FCC prohibits station licensees from broadcasting indecent material during that period.

"Material is indecent if, in context, it depicts or describes sexual or excretory organs or activities in terms patently offensive as measured by contemporary community standards for the broadcast medium...The 'safe harbor' refers to the time period between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., local time. During this time period, a station may air indecent and/or profane material."

We are not saying Lambert is indecent, but, either way, it's been deemed OK for him to be after 10 p.m. (His AMA appearance, by the way, aired at 10:55 p.m.).

In a statement to The Times, an ABC spokeswoman made no mention of the FCC and would only explain the network's decision to disinvite Lambert from performing on "Kimmel" as follows, "We decided not to move forward with the booking at this time." ABC declined to be interviewed about the issue.

You will recall that ABC also disinvited Lambert from "Good Morning America" last week.  And to just make it a dissing trifecta, Lambert also tweeted that he was disinvited from performing on "New Year's Rockin' Eve." Sources at Dick Clark Productions, however, tell us those plans were never finalized.

Lambert assured his fans he will still appear on "The Jay Leno Show" and he thinks "it'll all blow over."

Do you?

ABC, you OWE Adam Lambert, first for bringing your viewership way up for the AMAs - that extra 2.5 million viewers that materialized this year were there for one person: Adam. You took advantage of that by saving him till the end, thereby locking in your numbers for the whole show.

Further THANK Adam for taking the heat for what you and every thinking person knew full well was going to a homo-sensational floor show. Before every commercial break for 3 hours, your network crowed, "stay tuned for a jaw-dropping performance by Adam Lambert," and "America will be talking about this in the morning!" It didn't take a psychic to figure out that if a hot gay man was going to shock us, it was going to be with openly gay sexiness.

Why are YOU, ABC, simulating oral sex on all the sanctimonious, undercover pervs who just "happened" to watch Adam's ENTIRE performance that night (and 30 more times on youtube)? To cash in big-time on a young man's business naivete, and then literally try and destroy his career . . . you are skunks of a particularly odiferous variety. I am boycotting you and your sponsors - readers, check out adamofficial's community pages for a list of them. Trust me, their products are easy to avoid, as is ABC and its forumulaic, infantile programming. ABC, as we say in Harlem, NY: EFF YOU.

I am sick to DEATH of the constant brow beating that Adam has had to take from this network. it's NOT the FCC, Adam's just trying to be NICE, as he always is.

I was FAR more outraged by M&M's glorification of violence against women than anything short of beating a puppy on stage, that Adam Lambert could possibly EVER do. Adam's show was HOT, the song is HOT, and I loved it. I don't think he deserves to be treated this harshly over something that goes on with prime time TV programming on a daily basis. the double standard, and treatment of this kind and talented young man is making me sick to my stomach.

I think I'll stop watching all of ABC except when they put Adam Lambert back on. I don't tolerate discrimination.

ABC IS INDECENT AND HIPOCRITAL, ADAM HAVE ALL OUR SUPPORT, WE LOVE YOU. FROM ARGENTINA (YOU SEE, ABC ES UNA VERGUENZA INTERNACIONAL).

ABC IS INDECENT AND HIPOCRITAL, ABC ES UNA VERGUENZA INTERNACIONAL AL PROHIBIR LA LIBERTAD DE EXPRESION DE UN ARTISTA FUERA DEL HORARIO DE PROTECCION AL MENOR, SIGLO 21, Y TODAVIA EXISTE GENTE ESTUPIDA QUE QUIERE DECIDIR POR NOSOTROS QUE VER EN TV?, TRISTE.
ADAM ALL OUR SUPPORT AND LOVE FROM ARGENTINA.

ABC are a f-n JOKE. It's poorly laced bigotry, plain and simple. Just look at the way they focused ONLY on the males in Adam's performance when he did the EXACT same crotch moves with the female dancer on the steps. Look at the way the woman who interviewed him on The Early Show said "think of the children" and the way they blurred his kiss and the fact that she said "TWO MEN KISSING" all as if homosexuality is perverted but lesbianism and heterosexuality are sensual and acceptable.

As Ellen said if you're to be offended by a show of sexuality you should be offended by ALL shows of sexuality.

Why were ABC were fine with Janet doing what she did in rehearsals?
Janet grabbed her dancer's crotch so hard he fell forward then bent him over to get BUTT ACCESS - hello!?

Eminem bragged about RAPING 17 women - RAPE - something TRULY disturbing and offensive;

Rihanna had over 10 rifles onstage after she got off a sexual torture device in bandages;

Shakira had half naked female dancers visually humping the audience en masse while she sang about animalistic sex;

Gaga smashed whiskey bottles with her vag, bum crack & nipples out in a see through flesh colored outfit.

Had Britney also been there grinding against her male and female dancers singing about threesomes it would have been just another racy female performance.

It's ok to be naughty if you’re only PRETENDING to be gay. It’s also OK to be naughty if you’re a straight woman or man. But if you’re naughty and you really ARE gay, holy mother of God.

Look at all the immoral shiiiiiiii they've shown on Kimmel and they think it's inappropriate to have ADAM LAMBERT on even though he said it was a one time event which he learned from? There is NOTHING fair about the way they're treating this guy.

"....and homosexual open-mouth kissing"

THERE YOU HAVE IT.

I'm very disappointed and am removing all ABC shows from my Tivo. I cannot support a network with this level of discrimination against an openly gay performer. As so many have already stated, Adam did not do anything that I haven't seen female performers do for years, and he absolutely did not do anything near the level of the simulated sex and innuendo shown on prime time network television. I am middle-aged and straight and this has really opened my eyes even more to the discrimination against gay people. This is the 21st century. How in the world can this even be happening in a free country? I tell you what, going forward, I am going to be much, much more proactive about supporting gay rights. I've never been against them and do have many gay friends, but I've never attended any public rallies or gatherings to support them either, mainly thinking it isn't my fight. This ridiculous action by ABC tells me otherwise. Gay people are in the minority. They need our support. They are people just like everyone else, our neighbors, our friends, our family. Enough is enough. This bigotry has to end and it's only going to end when the majority of us--who don't complain--get off the couch and start complaining and fighting for the rights our fellow citizens.

Greetings: Sharie K here ~~~ I just wanted to let you know that I GET IT !!! BUT, ABC OBVIOUSLY DOES NOT. WHO ARE THEY TO TAKE THE OPINION OF A MEASILY 1500 CLOSED MINDED INDIVIDUALS AND MANIPULATE THE SHOWS THAT MILLIONS AND MILLIONS WATCH. THAT IS SO DISCRIMINATORY AND IT IS REDICULOUS TO LET 5 MINUTES EARLY TRANSMISSION RUIN IT FOR EVERYONE. NOT LETTING ADAM APPEAR ON THE "NEW YEARS SHOW" WOULD BE A TRUE SIN !!! ABC IS CHICKEN HOCKEY and needs to be toilet papered TO CLEAN UP THEIR OWN ACT ! THEY ARE AFRAID OF AND MESSING WITH ADAM'S SENSE OF PERSONAL EXPRESSION. REMEMBER, ABC EXECUTIVES WE ARE THE SAME FANS THAT VOTED FOR ADAM BECAUSE OF HIS INDIVIDUALISM ON AMERICAN IDOL. YOU BEST BEWARE - IF YOU CENSOR ADAM YOU CAN BE BUEYCOTTED. SOME OF YOUR SOAPS IN THE AFTERNOON REFLECT THE SAME THING ADAM DID, ONLY THE ACTORS ARE NEARLY NUDE, AND THAT'S OKAY ?? FREEDOM IN THE USA -- SPIT IN YOUR EYE ABC -YOU GOODIE TWO SHOES NETWORK - I'LL FIND ANOTHER EYE TO WATCH C-B-S ! WITH CORRECT CARE CHILDREN SHOULD BE IN BED BY THE TIME THIS PERFORMANCE SHOWED. ALL THE RAPPERS ARE MORE DETRIMENTAL TO CHILDREN WITH THEIR "RAP CRAP". BOO, HISS TO ABC.
THANKS TO BARBARA WALTERS FOR HER UNDYING RECOGNITION FOR ARTISTIC FREEDOM IN THE U.S. of A. PLEASE DON'T RETIRE MS. B.

Adam will be just fine, he doesn't need Abc, there is Cbs, nbc, and doesnt Mtv, have a new years show, also,? i could be wrong, but they will grab him, we will see him someplace on new Years eve, rockin elsewhere, , and the cd speaks for itself, it is awesome, I can't stop playing it, and we should see him on Sat, nite live, maybe, i hope, plus i just heard not sure if its a realible source or gossip, that Adam is doing the next Theme song, for the next 007 James bond movie coming up, my cousin is in the movie business just heard this today, that is huge and wouldn' t that be his 2nd , yes his 2nd movie theme song, wow, and Abc, won't have him , ah, then other folks will grab him, for sure, go Adam you rock, !!! and we can't wait to go see you on Tour, he willl sell tickets like hot cakes,,!!

Who are the 2 hottest stars right now, we can't get enuf of,, The stars of 2010, Lady Gaga and Adam Lambert, can you imagine if these 2 toured together, that would be the craziest tour ever,!!! Need i say more !!!!!!!and the music industry knows this very well, why all the hype, lol. nothing more needs to be said, lol.

Everyohe should see and be aware of a VIDEO OF PINK FROM THE BILLBOARD AWARDS FROM 2004 where Pink DID THE EXACT SAME THING (grabbed a guy's head and put it to her crotch). No one said boo about that! Pink already did it!! Where was the FCC then!!! See! There IS a double standard! Kudos Adam. EVERYONE WATCH THE PINK VIDEO FROM BILLBOARD AWARDS SHOW 2004. She did the SAME THING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did not find the kiss objectionable however, I found the simulated oral sex vulgar to the extreme. It was unnecessary & didn't add any value to that performance. It was a train wreck & his singing was terrible. I would have been just as offended if it was anyone else who did this. Adam Lambert seems to be the type of person who likes to shock people but I don't think he's controllable. He is also know to use the "F" word repeatedly during interviews. For the AMAs, his performance wasn't what was rehearsed & ABC had no way of knowing that he would do this. Though he did warn people that his performance would be "sexy" he neglected to say it would be porn. There is quite a difference between sexy & porn in my opinion.

Why do people think he's got talent is beyond me. He belongs on the cabaret circuit if that is what you are into.

I don't care when this program was aired, The AMAs & the music industry knows that kids under 18 are their market. Most people DVR stuff these days & watch it when they have the time. I often DVR programs so that I can fast-forward through the commercials.

So if Lambert is on again on any show (performance or interview), I will not watch it. He also does not understand why there is such a big deal about this. That I find rather puzzling.

There are many television shows that feature gay issues, have gay artists, actors, etc., and I am not offended & I enjoy watching. This is not about being homophobic, but about explicit sexual behavior--simulated oral sex shown on a television show knowing that young children are most probably their target audience. The FCC is there to warn us & rate the shows appropriately. ABC is to blame for not warning us & they should be fined by the FCC.

One consolation is that Lambert does not have the title of "American Idol" because that he is not. Who the heck does he think he is?

His performance was before 10 in the central time zone and possibly in the mountain time zone. In the past, the FCC has gone after performances that showed after 10 in the eastern time zone but were at earlier times in other time zones.

OMG are you serious? enough about adam and the supposed contraversy, abc is coward!!!
also, I am always appauled at eminem with his angry looks and bs about packin his gun etc. but nobody says anything about that! Adam has more talent and gorgeous looks and human kindness more than all that have ever performed put together! Adam's act was fun, he loves to make people laugh and that voice is out of this world, not to mention the homophobia and double standards. Adam is a Superstar! Let him do his thang!!! He brings much pleasure to his fans!

Let's see, it is now October 2010 and I for one have not forgotten, and it has not blown over in regards to Lamberts sick display on national tv. This is not a homophobic situation, it is a decency one. Mr. Lambert was crude and disgusting and should have kept his actions to himself, or got a room or something. How could any of you gay or straight consider what Lambert did something that will blow over. I know for a fact the outrage concerning this will have lasting effects and truthfully Lambert will never have a mainstream career again. He literally Blew it!!!!!
