The Taming of the Shrew: Director Franco Zeffirelli cast celebrity couple Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, who dominated as Katharina and Petruchio, in this opulent 1967 adaptation of Shakespeare’s comedy. Michael York, Cyril Cusack, Natasha Pyne and Michael Hordern costar (5 p.m. TCM).

The Tale of Despereaux: A mouse (Matthew Broderick) goes against the edicts of his rodent-oriented homeland and is cast out in this 2008 animation featuring the voices of Dustin Hoffman, Emma Watson and Tracey Ullman (7 p.m. HBO).
