Elizabeth Banks, Edward Norton to liven up 'Modern Family'

As if “Modern Family” wasn’t fabulous enough, they go and recruit Elizabeth Banks ("The 40 Year Old Virgin” and “Zack and Miri Make a Porno”) to guest star as Mitchell and Cameron's best girlfriend, Sal.

Banks, who I completely loved in "Slither" no matter how awesomely bad it was, has this moxie about her that I adore. And judging by the spoiler alert photos I saw (I won't give it away), she's every little bit the "Miri" I fell in love with. I wonder if she remembers the awkward encounter we had at IKEA. I was trying NOT to notice her, but I ended up a complete creep and wound up bumping her cart in the bedroom aisle. How awkward, for me.

Also in the same episode, two-time Oscar nominee and Golden Globe winner Edward Norton will play Izzy LaFontaine (Worst. Name. Ever.), a "famous" musician who is hired by Claire as a surprise anniversary gift for Phil.

"With a history of giving bad gifts, Claire is determined to surprise Phil with an amazing anniversary present -- a private performance by one of their favorite musicians, Izzy LaFontaine! However, it turns out to be a surprise in more ways than one," ABC said in release. Am I the only one hoping for: (A) a completely ridiculous outfit – I'm hoping and praying it will be a mixture between Rick James and Prince (you know -- flashy, bad makeup, pearls, long glistening hair and lots and lots of glitter) and (B) a train wreck vocal performance à la “Tardy for the Party.”

The episode is set to air Nov. 18, the network said.
