Jake Pavelka named new 'Bachelor'

Pavelka Jillian Harris' cast-off Jake Pavelka -- you may remember him as the guy who tried to throw Wes under the bus -- has been picked to be the next rose-giver on "The Bachelor."

The news was announced during Tuesday's "Dancing With the Stars" results show. Bonus: Tom Bergeron revealed that this season "The Bachelor" would be subtitled: "On the Wings of Love." Because Pavelka is a pilot.

But really, why Jake? Here's how the ABC press release put it:

"Ever since Jake, 31, shared a magical one-on-one date with Bachelorette Jillian Harris to see Martina McBride, millions of women have had their 'Top Gun' fantasies about him. A fan favorite for his reputation as an honest guy with an open heart -- not to mention his good looks -- viewers were stunned when Jillian rejected Jake right before the hometown dates on last season's "The Bachelorette."

But women were drawn to him even more when Jake returned of his own accord in the next episode to protect Jillian from men who were not there for the right reasons. Jake -- who already knew Jillian would not take him back -- freely shared and showed his emotions, and that's when the requests for Jake to be the next Bachelor started to pour in.

If you say so! Season 14 premieres in January.

Thoughts? Can Jake carry this show? Can he be better or, rather, be more dramatic than this year's single-dad-turned-cad Jason Mesnick?

This is a typcical WASP looking guy. So boring.
I can't wait to move to Hawaii and throw my television, cell phone, and computer away forever.

Hello! Where do I sign up? I would love to sweep him off his feet!

How exciting!!!!! I totally called it last season that he was going to be the next bachelor when Jillian gave him the boot. He's the perfect "all American" guy! Man, I knew I should have gone to the casting calls this year.

That's so cool! Just wish I could go back in time, be younger and single - and be on this show. He is such a CATCH

how exciting! another show reaffiming heterosexuality and that the white man should be the object of your desires. can't wait!

I was hoping for Kypton!

Boooooooooo! No one likes Jake!

Dull as dishwater but as Reality Steve says today, Jake makes the perfect puppet for Harrison and company. He openly campaigned for this and he got it so let another pathetic season begin...just don't be surprised when he breaks down 100 hundred times and falls in love with one of the bimbos.

I'm hooked on the possibility of love and the fantasy of the red rose.

Jake is EVERY womans DREAM man!!!! I think he's perfect and so do alot of other people or he would'nt be there! I could only be so lucky to find a man half the caliber of Jake...He is a PERFECT choice...yes I said PERFECT!!!

Sigh. I can't say I'm surprised that ABC picked Jake because a) he's a safe/easy/cheesy choice and b) he has legions of lovesick fans. However, I can tell you that this Bachelor fan is really disappointed. I mean "On the Wings of Love"? I just threw up in my mouth.

Congrats to Jake! Jake, I sincerely hope you will remind America what love really is. It is not nurtured by lust and pre-marital sex leading to co-habitation. In the gospels, Jesus said that fornicators (those who indulge in pre-marital sex) will NOT inherit the kingdom of heaven. If Ed and Jillian were truly wise, they would know that the divorce rate for co-habiting couples is 80%. Jake, please don't scandalize my daughters by satisfying America's appetite for immorality. If you love God, stand firm and let the world know where the beauty of your face, mind and heart really comes from! Thank you!

Hooray for Jake!!!! I was hoping he'd be the next bachelor. It takes a real man to show that real love is not just the lust and romancing. Anyone can do that. Jake seems to be a man of real character and I hope he finds the love of his life that he's been waiting for.

YAY! I was rooting for Jake! He's just a down to earth nice guy who also happens to be great looking! Jake, if you don't find her, look me up! :)

Yay! So excited that Jake will have a chance to find the woman of his dreams. A nice, well-mannered great guy who looks really hot and has an exciting career, what a catch! I wish I was younger so I could apply. Good luck, Jake! Can't wait for January 2010 to come.

Come on, Jolie! Don't be so pathetic, and throw your television, cell phone, and computer away right now. We all know you're not going to do it when you get to Hawaii.

Will the show the Bachelor, or its female counterpart, EVER feature a non-white person in the lead role? This is far beyond embarrassing, ABC.

I'm so happy that its Jake he is awesome seems like he has a good upbringing thank you mom & dad of Jake...I'm so wanting Jake to find the right gal for him I sure hope that if he is in doubt he just doesn't purpose to the final gal...I know in my heart he will do what is right!!!Jillian will be sorry I'm sure.

To Jolie,
Just to let you know, Hawaii is not just palm trees and beaches. We do have televisions, cell phones, and computers so if you move here, you may be surprised to find yourself living in a big city with technological advances just like any other city.

I am looking forward to this season of Bachelor. With Jake as the bachelor, it should be a romantic season.

Jason had too much drama. The show became a joke. I am glad that ABC got back to the basics. Jake may be boring, but he is very adorable. God Bless the lucky girl, she will have her hands full. Go get him girls.
