Break out the Canadian Club for gents, vodka gimlets for the ladies: ‘Mad Men’ has been renewed for a fourth season on AMC. Not exactly a shocker, considering the show’s current status as one of the most talked-about shows on TV.

The third season is underway now, with episode three airing Sunday night. ‘My Old Kentucky Home’ was one of the most controversial episodes yet (read more about it here; beware of spoilers).

In January, after months of negotiations following the renewal of season 3, show creator and producer Matt Weiner closed a two-year, seven-figure overall deal with producer Lionsgate TV to continue on the acclaimed AMC drama.

The critically praised but ratings-challenged advertising drama set in 1960s New York hit a series high with its season 3 premiere in August, delivering 2.8 million viewers -- up 34% from last year’s opener. Across the night’s three airings, the show drew a cumulative 4.5 million viewers.

Season 2 averaged just 1.5 million viewers in its Sunday-at-10 airings. The show debuted on AMC in July 2007 and has garnered 16 Emmy nominations -- more than any other drama series.
