‘The Real Housewives of Atlanta’: It’s all about me

If there’s one thing you can count on when watching “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” it’s the excessive use of the word “me.” Heck, that’s the case with any of the locations in the franchise -- from the ladies in O.C. to the dames in New York City to the gals in New Jersey, the usage of the two-letter word seems to rival the figure the women spend on a shopping spree. Exhibit A: Thursday’s episode

Bikini clad Kim (aka Excessive Me User No. 1) hung poolside with her sidekick Cori (whom I don’t particularly mind when she offers chuckle-inducing phrases such as “Shut the front door!” to express shock). As usual, wig-wearing Kim did most of the talking and, as usual, it was all about her. Should she get back with Big Poppa or not? Apparently, all Kim needed was a change of scenery to decide because once she moved from the poolside chairs to the pool, the decision was made. Big Poppa is “the love of [her] life.” So she’s going to give her ATM, er, man a second chance. And, naturally, a jewelry extravaganza soon followed. A gaudy gold necklace? $32,000. A seven-karat amethyst ring? $3,000. Kim looking in the mirror and saying “Oh, my god. I’m so good looking’? Priceless.

Not one to be out me’d, Sheree (Excessive Me User No. 2) began finalizing details for her “Independence Party” celebrating, well, herself of course!

OK. OK. It was celebrating a new chapter in her life, sans the stress of a divorce. She got a new haircut (Bangs! Bangs! Bangs!) with the help of her hairstylist Lawrence (who sure knows how to rock hot pink leggings and a pair of strappy, red, high heels). Sheree arrived “tardy for the party” so her entrance wasn’t missed. And -- to ensure no one was mistaken about whom the party was for -- she had a super-sized portrait painting of herself commissioned and unveiled the larger-than-life final result at the party. The monstrosity seemed a bit overwhelming for NeNe, Lisa and Kandi, who could only muster up toothy grins of perplexity; cue an interview with NeNe asking, “Is she going to hang that in her house?” Of course she will. Of course.

And what would an episode of the “Real Housewives” be without “Tardy for the Party”? The infamous track has become an honorary sixth housewife recently. Whenever it’s mentioned, you can be sure drama isn’t too far away. This episode proved no different. Kim doesn’t want NeNe on the track. NeNe insists the song won’t sell without her. Arguments ensued. And focus was taken off Sheree at her own party as a result. (Gasp!)

What do you think, Should NeNe add her vocals to the killer track? Will the song become a part of your playlist? And did that portrait painting of Sheree freak you out? Until next time.
