UPDATED: Glenn Beck goes after Color of Change co-founder Van Jones

Glenn Beck used his popular Fox News show this afternoon to attack the background of Van Jones, a White House environmental advisor who co-founded an African American political advocacy group that organized an advertising boycott of his program.

During his 2 p.m. PDT show, Beck did not address the boycott spearheaded by Color of Change to protest the talk show host’s remark last month that he believes President Obama is “a racist.”

Instead, he spent a large share of his program suggesting that Jones, who co-founded Color of Change in 2005, is a radical. Jones now serves as a special advisor for Green Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation at the White House Council on Environmental Quality.

During a six-minute biographical profile, set to ominous music, Beck said Jones was twice arrested for political protests and has described himself as a "rowdy black nationalist." The talk show host cast the piece as part of a broader examination of Obama's "czars," special advisers to the president who "don't answer to anybody."

"Why is it that such a committed revolutionary has made it so high into the Obama administration as one of his chief advisers?" Beck asked.

Christine Glunz, a spokeswoman for the White House Council on Environmental Quality, noted that Jones has been lauded as an environmental hero and said his entire focus is on “building clean energy incentives which create 21st-century jobs.”

“Glenn Beck is trying to change the subject,” said James Rucker, executive director of Color of Change, who noted that Jones has not been active with the group in almost two years. “The issue is his baseless fear mongering.”

Beck has gone after Jones in the past. On July 28, he called the activist a "self-professed communist" and questioned the role he was playing in the administration. His latest assault on Jones came as Color of Change announced that it has secured commitments from 36 companies who have pledged not to advertise on Beck’s popular program, including Wal-Mart and Sprint. However, some of the companies never had a presence on "Glenn Beck." Representatives of Procter & Gamble and AT&T – listed by Color of Change as companies that had signed onto the boycott – told The Times that their companies did not run spots on Beck’s program to begin with.

While the advertising boycott has generated substantial media coverage, Fox News said it has not impacted the network’s revenues or Beck’s audience. "The advertisers referenced have all moved their spots from Beck to other programs on the network so there has been no revenue lost," a spokeswoman said.

Since his Fox News show launched in January, Beck has attracted a sizable audience with his strident denunciations of the Obama administration and apocalyptic warnings about the country’s direction. Late last month, during an appearance on the morning show “Fox & Friends,” he accused Obama of having “a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture.”

“This guy is, I believe, a racist,” he added.

The flap that ensued did not appear to dampen Beck’s viewership. This month, his show has averaged 2.25 million viewers, 99% more than tuned in during the same period last year, when the network aired “America’s Election HQ” during the time period. And his ratings are up from July, when Beck's program averaged 2.05 million viewers. Fan websites such as Defend Glenn have called for viewers to fight back against the advertising boycott, and some media veterans have denounced the tactic as a suppression of free speech.

The controversy has triggered a broader discussion about the risks to advertisers of running commercials amid the incendiary rhetoric of cable talk shows. Clorox announced last week that it was pulling its ads off all political talk shows.

"We do not want to be associated with inflammatory speech used by either liberal or conservative talk show host,” the company said in a statement. “After a comprehensive review of political talks shows across the spectrum, at this time we have made a decision not to advertise on them. Clorox has done very little advertising on political talk shows overall, and given the sometimes inflammatory nature of these shows, we feel our advertising investment is best directed elsewhere.”

As boycott continues, Glenn Beck's audience swells

van jones is dangerous EVERYONE that obama surrounds himself with is! The next four years are going to be hell. God help us all.

So, how's that Hope and Change working for you?

I love the bias in the article. Isn't it convenient to forget to mention 1) his signing of the nutcase 911 "truther" petition that hold 911 was a Bush conspiracy and 2) ridiculous statements that whites are poisoning minority communities.
I voted for Obama and am now sorry I did. It looks like for Obama there is only solution to every problem - more government. My God the government can't profitably deliver mail, it couldn't even manage to run the Cash For Clunkers program and we are supposed to believe the government can provide all of us with health care? I think Bush has done more damage to our country than Obama has so far - but Bush had 8 years - Obama has had about 8 months. I guess we're all screwed again.

Looks like Glenn is going to get the last laugh. By Monday Jones will probably be gone. I wonder if the white house is actually providing guidance to Color of Change?

O.K. It sucks that there is a guy like this as part of the administration. It's hard for me to defend this against some of some of the righties. Amazingly, Van has somehow taken a cause that should unite all peoples, and divided it along racial lines with his "white pollution" comment. Unfortunately a guy like Mr. Van Jones divides people, and as an independant I say that I recognize racism when I see it-well it wasn't like he was trying to hide it though.

"""Health Care Strategy Shift
""" (meaning) 'RE-CALIBRATION of WORDS USED to LIE to the AMERICAN PEOPLE'.....

THE u N I O N IS THE P A R I S I T E, FEEDING OFF OF THE AMERICAN WORKER, The u N I O N is the "political / Industrial ' COMPLEX existing only to feed those at the TOP, furnishing the resources to buy, subvert, and kONTROL politics, and the flow of MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF TAX PAYER DOLLARS................... workers stand-up for yourselves, "e a t the u N I O N" and be F R E E.

Has the self-proclaimed communist Van Jones ever created a job before? What are this criminals qualifications again? President Obama should stop surrounding himself with radicals and racists because people might get the wrong impression about his judgment of character. Too bad the FBI is busy investigating the CIA because they need to do more background checks on members of this administration.

Why is it so easy for recovering drug addicts (Beck) to demonize our sitting President (who tried cocaine, but didn't stay on it like Glenn)as racist, but when the roles are reversed, and advertisers choose rationally not to do business with Beck, does the conservative media elite (ooohh yeah, those Fox "News" pundits make major bucks and live in gated mansions; sugar daddy, anyone?)go nuts?

Van Jones is absolutely right to reject the official narrative of what happened on 9/11. It was a false flag operation designed to enrage the normally peace-loving Americans into supporting a series of wars in the middle east.

There are over 800 architects and engineers at ae911truth.org who have signed a petition demanding a real investigation into the "collapses" of the THREE World Trade Center buildings that day. Do a youtube of WTC7, and watch it fall at freefall acceleration.

There are also pilots, former ATC, former government insiders, firefighters and many others who have formed similar groups! All these people can't be wrong!

If this concept seems so foreign to you, if you think the American govt could never dream of such a thing, google "operation northwoods" from 1961, a prototype scenario similar to 9/11. Please America, wake up! Check out PatriotsQuestion911.com. Watch (youtube) Richard Gage's lecture "Blueprint for Truth." Once you're informed, become active.

President Barack Hussein Obama has been my personal choice for President since July, 2006. When I graduated from high school in 1958, three years before Barack was born, I was voted 'Most Likely to Succeed' as well as President of my class. I happen to be white, caucasian, vanilla, however you wish to describe it, and I know for a fact that Barack Obama has a great affection and admiration for me. In a sense, he is my surrogate, and I approve of him and his message.

I am glad that Glenn Beck is not African American so I won't be accused of racism when I state that he is as stupid as he is articulate.

Glenn Beck is a hero, and awesomely funny, he, Sherriff Joe and Ron Paul are brave and brilliant and should be leading this country back to it's roots. What ever happened to integrity and honor. Weak, selfish, dishonest people have taken the forefront (Nancy Pelosi? on the board of Digital Angel, you know the company that manufactures the 666 chip!!!)
We need to stand up America, take this country back and throw the dirtbags out, before it is too late.
God Bless America!!!!

Thank GOD for Glen Beck and his bringing Van Jones out to the public. We on the RIGHT appriciate the TRUTH, and we get it from Beck. You can watch Mr. Jones on "YOUTUBE" and see him spew the raciest remarks right out of his own mouth.

He got what he deserved!

Fear mongering? The left has done that consistently through the years! What a joke. Remember Trent Lott saying, at a birthday party fro Strom Thurmond, "That the country would I Have been a better place had he be elected President." That's it Trent your out screamed the left and so it was. A patronizing comment at a birthday part cost the guy the Speakers spot! And now the left is up in arms about a truly racist guy?

Actually Blady, the atrocities you allude to with Whites still continues today on the African continent as it did 300 and 400 years ago and is not attributable to anything "White" but black on black greed and corruption.Slavery was commonplace across the globe in 1600 and 1700's, even in europe. These atrocities werent exclusively perpetrated on the black race, Historians estimate that as many as 80% of white colonist came into this country as indentured slaves!

For those of you who still have your party loyal blinders on and you can not believe that Truth Seeing Americans can compare Barry Soetoro's policies and beliefs to Socialism, Marxism, Fascism, Nazism, etc, etc, etc, here are a list of quotes made by some well known Marxists and some NOT so well know proponents of all listed 'isms'.

"We demand that the State shall make it its primary duty to provide a livelihood for its citizens." Every one's favorite Nazi, Adolf Hitler is credited with this one.

Karl Marx once said, "The meaning of peace is the absence of opposition to socialism."

"I hope we will come together as a nation and do whatever it takes to keep guns away from people who have no business with them." Hillary Clinton

Ideas are more powerful than guns. We would not let our enemies have guns, why should we let them have ideas?" Good Ole' Papa Joe Stalin said that one!

Hitler said, "We demand the extensive development of insurance for old age." He also said, "The aim of the school must be to give the student, beginning with the first sign of intelligence, a grasp of the notion of the State."

Here is another gem from Papa Joe, "Education is a weapon whose effects depend on who holds it in his hands and at whom it is aimed."

Lenin said, "Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted." Good old Vlad also had this piece of understanding well in hand, "A lie told often enough becomes the truth."

Our own hemisphere's little Commie said, "The world needs a new moral architecture... I believe that this should be the first topic to debate in our world of today, ethics, moral." That would be Hugo Chavez by the way. He also is quoted, "We must confront the privileged elite who have destroyed a large part of the world." Hugo gives such short simple insights such as, "Capitalism leads us straight to hell."

Go Hillary go! "(We) can't just let business as usual go on, and that means something has to be taken away from some people."

"We can't expect the American People to jump from Capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving them small doses of Socialism, until they awaken one day to find that they have Communism." Oh Nikita Khrushchev, I think we are starting to awaken.

"Our individual salvation depends on our collective salvation." Think Stalin or Lenin gave this one? No, this is a quote from our fearless leader Barry Soetoro. Another idea of the Collective, "It's only when you hitch your wagon to something larger than yourself that you realize your true potential." Thank you Barry!

If one actually reads HR3200, which I have read about 2/3rds of it, one will understand that the push for "Health Care Reform" is not so much about health care reform, but more-so ties into many of the above referenced quotes.

Quintero, you accuse those who oppose Barry Soetoro's policies as being uncaring and selfish. I disagree with your assumption. We are not all uncaring and selfish. We just want to be left alone by the Central Government. We for the most part are very generous people, we want the freedom to be generous to those of our choosing, not those whom we are forced to give to. Also, if the Constitution is to be allowed to change with time, who is to say it might not lead to your inability to post on a site like this? By the way, it may be amended by 2/3rds of the State's Ratification (that is little state, like CA, AZ, etc). This is how it evolves.

Teri, your colleague is misinformed as to why Patriots oppose Barry Soetoro. Have you noticed that Michele Malkin is not white (gasp)? Have you noticed that Walter Williams, a great conservative economist Professor at George Mason University is not white (gasp)? Ever heard of Alan Keyes? He is a black conservative. I love his ideas and so do many white conservatives. How about Michael Steele? I am not a Republican, I think Michael Steele is too left wing to be considered a conservative, but did you realize he is black?
Teri, I went to Washington DC this summer, I wore a t-shirt that says "Socialism/Trickle up Poverty" The O is the Obama symbol with the flag inside. We went to a restaurant where all the staff was black. At first, the staff was put off by my shirt, and I believe they automatically placed me in the group of a racist. By the end of our visit, I had the staff laughing and sitting with us talking. Teri, just because I am white and I do not approve of Barry Soetoro's ideology, does not mean I am racist. That is just a cop out for those who can not form a valid argument.

Just because the Soviet Union as a government fell, that doesn't mean that "All the Good Commies" went away. Did anyone else find it telling that when Barry Soetoro was campaigning for his party's nomination, he was introduced by the Decemberists at Messiah College in Grantham, Pa., south of Harrisburg, in March of 2007. Did the band play the United States National Anthem? No, they played the Soviet Union National Anthem. Did anyone on the left protest or apologize. Nyet!

Thank you Glen Beck, et al for speaking boldly the truth. Oh ya, just yesterday, Van Jones resigned. Why? Because Glenn Beck spoke the truth. Will his voice be gone from the White House? I doubt it, since Barry Soetoro holds the same beliefs that Jones, Sunstien, Holdren, Ezekiel Imaneul and all the other radical Marxists in his administration holds, Jones' position will now just be covert. WAKE UP, FOR WHEN THEY COME FOR YOU, YOU WILL WONDER WHY. I WILL REFUSE TO PROTECT THOSE WHOM ARE UNABLE AND UNWILLING TO SEE THE TRUTH NOW!!!!!!!!!!!

Obama is not a racjst. Do Glen Beck really believe that or is he really trying to bring out the United KKK of America. Reverend Wright has more validity among people who think

Any seen or read this book? "Hottest Book: Glenn Beck's Common Sense. " Do you support the content? Glenn is at again.

It is mind blowing to think that people like Glenn Beck ACTUALLY HAVE AN AUDIENCE. A man who (at best) promotes fear and if I recall correctly AN IQ CAP? And (at worst) is a diabolical fiend whose head can only be further inflated by his own crass (not to mention false) rhetoric he calls entertainment and illegitimate pandering to those under this proposed cap is utter detest and and a general uneasiness.

It has already been said best: I am glad that Glenn Beck is not African American so I won't be accused of racism when I state that he is as stupid as he is articulate.

Why is it that such a committed revolutionary has made it so high into the Obama administration as one of his chief advisers"

Is Van Jones a Communist?

Answer the questions instead of crying "racist" or "fear monger". Addresa the issue!
