Cable network TBS, which has struck ratings gold with African-American-themed sitcoms ‘House of Payne’ and ‘Meet the Browns,’ is hoping to make lightning strike thrice with a sitcom based on the 2005 movie ‘Are We There Yet,’ which starred Ice Cube.

TBS is ordering 10 episodes of ‘Are We There Yet,’ which will be executive produced by Joe Roth, whose Revolution Studios was behind the movie, and Ice Cube, whose Cube Vision will produce the program. If the show -- about a man’s efforts to win over his girlfriend’s children -- works, TBS will then order 90 more episodes.

The deal is similar to the deals TBS struck for ‘House of Payne’ and ‘Meet the Browns.’ Debmar-Mercury, which distributed those two shows, is also distributing ‘Are We There Yet.’ Last week it struck a similar pact with Comedy Central to distribute a new sitcom from Will Ferrell’s production company starring Jon Heder.

‘Are We There Yet’ will star Terry Crews, who was last seen in The CW’s ‘Everybody Hates Chris.’ Ice Cube will also have a recurring role on the show.

TBS currently ranks second only to Viacom’s BET among African-American viewers. It is also aggressively courting Hispanic viewers and is launching a talk show featuring comedian George Lopez in the fall.
