‘So You Think You Can Dance’: Your top four, ladies and gentlemen

Here are the main things I learned from tonight’s ‘So You Think You Can Dance’:

1) It’s not that I hate clowns, it’s that I hate it when grown people pretend to be sad little toy clowns coming out of a giant toy box. Sorry, Tyce Diorio, but no matter how great your choreography, you will never win me over with a dance about sad clowns, especially if Kayla Radomski seems to be made up to look unfairly unclownish compared with the other dancers.

2) I really miss last season. Well, technically, I knew that already, but I just needed to see Katee Shean and Twitch Boss dance ‘Mercy’ from last season (the kick-the-door-down number) to feel wistful all over again.

3) Melissa Sandvig DID dance hip-hop this season. Of course, as she pointed out, we didn’t really see it since it was in a group number (the ‘Seven Nation Army’ military-inspired dance from a few weeks ago). Apparently she heard the grumblings from the show’s fan base and wanted to clear that up after she was eliminated. She was very gracious with her goodbye, choking up and thanking her husband.

4) Avant-garde choreographer Merce Cunningham passed away. I didn’t know who this was but thanks to Nigel Lythgoe, who mentioned his passing, I looked him up and learned about him. This, in addition to bringing on the the JabbaWockeeZ, known from rival show ‘America’s Best Dance Crew,’ helps make ‘SYTYCD’ great for comprehensively covering the world of dance.

5) People REALLY like Evan Kasprzak. I definitely think Ade Obayomi deserved to be in the top four more than Evan, but for whatever reason (there are plenty to speculate over), he was voted into the top four over Ade. I think the top four should consist of any four dancers who deserve to win the title, but I don’t think Evan fits that category as much as the other three.

So next week we’ll see the top four: Brandon, Evan, Jeanine Mason and Kayla will battle it out for America’s favorite dancer. For some reason I think Jeanine will win, but perhaps Wednesday night’s performances will change that.
