'Jon & Kate Plus 8' divorce episode draws record ratings

Breaking up may be hard to do, but it sure helps reel in viewers.

Monday night’s highly promoted episode of “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” in which the embattled couple announced their separation (and later divorce), lifted the show’s sinking ratings. The episode drew an impressive 10.6 million viewers and was the highest-rated “Jon & Kate Plus 8” episode ever among all key demographics, beating all other season premieres and finales.

The episode — stuffed with excess filler in the form of crooked playhouses -- featured an epic (though not entirely surprising) announcement about the status of their relationship.

Now that the looming question surrounding their 10-year marriage has been answered, another question remains: Will fans continue to tune in now that the couple have decided to call it quits? We’ll have to wait to see … especially since TLC announced the hit reality show is taking a production break after news of their divorce Monday.  New episodes are expected to resume Aug. 3.

Six new episodes of the 40-episode season have aired to hot-and-cold ratings. May’s premiere episode drew nearly 10 million viewers but has since plunged to as low as 2.9 million viewers -- still a strong showing when compared to its previous four seasons.

Umm...boo

Drop the show. There are plenty of multiples out there that really could use some help! Kate in my opinion is OCD ! She's a nurse at heart and that makes you try to acceed to perfection. From the looks of her family's home she grew up middle income or less and perhaps that has influenced her desire to make milllions. I know about the perfection thing as I am a nurse. But Kate is away from her children 18 days a month and there is a live in nanny...get a grip Kate and figure out how you are going to raise 8 kids without Jon. You in my opinion have stripped him of his manhood and his self. Really Jon get a job, Step up to the plate and prove you can be successful. Kate apparently has all the help she needs.. I thought the last two years were awful. I will NEVER watch the show again That is what my friends say too! Gloodbye KATE. ps Kate remember what goes around comes around. Kharma never forgets. AND one more questions, how is the wife of the security guard? Kate you have humiliated her and her children. Be ashamed Kate!

I feel bad for kate they never expected this to happen but she is too bossy and needs to get over herself already. I also feel bad for jon she is mean and evill to him is he like a little puppy on kates spiked leash. Jon you need to get away from her and do your thing to get the free man hodd u were never able to have because you had kids at such a young age... The collar is more like a shock collar.

To Lucy above, if Kate waited for John to do something it would never get done. John plays the poor me she runs right over the top of me sad boy but he does NOTHING but complain....DO SOMETHING John, stop whinning! I can't wait to watch the show when it airs again, it will be Kate plus 8 and we'll watch John dig himself into a hole of late night parties, strippers and young girls and blame Kate for it all! While she'll pick up the pieces he threw at her and true to form will survive. YOU GO KATE!!!

CAN YOU SEE ALL THIS SADDNESS IN THE KIDS THAT HAD NO SAY IN THIS 2 GREEDY PERENTS. THINKING THEY DID THE RIGHT THING? FOR THIER KIDS? WELL THE HISTORY UNFOLD ITSELF ON BIG TV. MONEY NOT EVERYTHING WHEN YOU AFFECT THE LIFE'S OF GOD INNOCENTS KID'S. WHAT EVER HAPPEND TO KEEPING FAITH IN GOD. EVEN IN THE SHILO PIPPIN SHOW AKA MEAIDMADE GIRL THERE MOM AND DAD SPLITTING TOO. DON'T YOU SEE SANTAN ALL AROUND YOU. KATE YOU NOT THE ONLY IN THE WORLD THAT HAD 6 AT ONE TIME..... THERE OTHER'S OUT THERE TO AND THEY MARKETING THERE KIDS. THIS IS SO SAD... I WILL NEVER WATCH THIS SHOW AGAIN CAUSE IT DOES NOT STAND FOR FAMILY ANYMORE. GOD LUCK YOU GOING TO NEED IT. THEY ARE NOT YOUR KIDS TO SELL ON TV JUST FOR YOU AND JON GREED.
