'Gossip Girl': Season finale says, 'I love you too'

Gossipgirl_graduation

Ahh, high school graduation. The season finale of "Gossip Girl" reminded us that we can leave the awkwardness and angst of those four years behind, but will they ever really leave us? Gossip Girl was right: We're all Gossip Girls. It's why we're all so addicted to this show! Graduation time always make me a little anxious about the future of my favorite teen dramas, but I'll talk about that later. The showdown must go on!

We began the episode with the gang dressed in caps and gowns (except for Serena, who is clearly too cool to wear a cap or close her gown), preparing to embark on the ceremony that will officially relieve them from the bonds of high school. But before they get to turn their tassels, Gossip Girl goes on a rampage. No one is exempt, especially the soon-to-be-irrelevant Serena. S, who whines about the tabloid attention yet secretly fears a life without it, decides enough is enough; it's time to take the elusive Gossip Girl down.

We all know there's no show if the mystery of its namesake is revealed, so consider yourself fooled if you thought that secret was coming out. We did, however, get some hints as to who she (or he — loved how they tried to make us think it was Eric's boyfriend Jonathan) could be. After scouring through her archives for, oh, five minutes, Serena, Blair, Nate and Chuck were able to deduce that GG is likely their age and had attended either of their schools. Those guesses hold even more weight now that we know GG will be following them through college. Whoever it is clearly has the wits to outsmart Serena, which really isn't saying very much.

While Serena was busy saving the world from the wretched hands of Gossip Girl, Blair was on a mission of her own. After her last attempt to pry those three words from Chuck's mouth, one would hope B would hang her headband and call it a day. Her relentlessness is admirable, but after attempt No. 5 went unrequited, I was ready to gag her with those German stockings. My ill feelings did wash away with that last scene, where a very effective soundtrack by Shiny Toy Guns ushered in a new era of Chuck and Blair. Was that a smile on Chuck's face? I was seriously beside myself.

So what stories do we have to look forward to next season? Rufus and Lily's engagement and the merging of the Humphrey and Van der Woodsen-Bass households will be interesting, as will the appearance of the couple's long-lost son, Scott. Georgina's enrollment at NYU along with Dan, Vanessa and Blair (who, by the way, I don't believe for a second would ever live in a dorm) should shake things up. Serena's search for her father could also reveal some juicy secrets about her family's past, and lastly, let's not forget about the reign of Queen Little J.

As I mentioned before, the thought of the "Gossip Girl" gang graduating gave me some anxiety about the future of the show. Post-West Beverly, the 90210 crew enjoyed seven more years on the air, all of which were filled with mediocrity and melodrama. "The OC" and "Dawson's Creek" couldn't stay afloat after the caps were tossed, and "One Tree Hill" had to flash forward four years to keep things interesting. Need we even talk about "Saved by the Bell: The College Years"?

My point is that the show's writers and producers have quite the daunting task ahead of them. Outside the cloistered confines of high school, these characters can go a hundred different ways, most of which have led their predecessors toward repetitious and lazy story lines, bland-new love interests and the clichéd "shocking death." The "Gossip Girl" gang has already bedded teachers, avoided jail time and mastered the art of ordering a martini — what else is left to learn in college? We know these kids can't stay young forever and another guilty pleasure will eventually pop up in its place, so until then, we'll bask in the colorful wardrobe, the bitchy one-liners and, of course, the never-ending gossip that it has graced us so far.

Were you satisfied with the season finale? Who do you think is the real Gossip Girl? What story lines are you looking forward to next season?

It's going to be a loooong summer.

xoxo

i have always believed little J is the Gossip Girl. Eric's boyfriend was probably holding her phone. Anyway, in the end Little J got to be Queen B, what she probably always secretly wanted. And in one of the season 1 episodes, she tells her brother dan that Sernea is probably at a bar, alone, drinking a Martini (which, low and behold, Serena was). It's little J all the way.

Loved the beginning, or should I say end of the Blair Chuck saga. For we all know that has no heat unless their at odds so while it was great to see them make nice for the season end-er, I can't wait to see the fireworks that put them back in their right light. Little J as the Queen why not it works, and she's going to be better at it then Blair. Serena looking for daddy dearest, well that's a stretch but if they can make it work for at least four episodes then i'm willing to go for a ride, Now the lost son story has teeth and the only way to really bring people back in after I'm sure a summer field with the spin off to Gossip Girl- whatever it's called, well all be interested to see how that conception came about.

Now to say weather or not Gossip Girl will make it pass the, college year curse all lines in who breaks out as the new star of the show for Serena's reign is but a memory.

i, too, do not buy blair in living in a dorm either. no way!

I really think this was the best episode !!!!! Chuck and blair belong together. Nate seems to be using Vanessa for whenever him and Blair dont work out. I almost cried when Chuck and Blair kissed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And Dan's brother is H-O-T ! i love this show, i hope theres another season.

The Gossip Girl is quite obviously Vanessa. If you watch the scene in which Serena is telling Dan and Vanessa that they need to join forces in order to stop her, Vanessa can be seen shrinking away. She also expresses an interest in leaving the Van Der Woodsen's house with Dan, once she realizes that the rest of the students will be on a witch hunt. Additionally, she is the only major character that did not have something shockingly revealed about her.

Last night's episode was good, but not great. I adore Chuck and Blair and want to see them have a real relationship. Blair broke up with Nate because after 4 years he was just her high school boyfriend. I wonder what Chuck and Blair will be to each other and how this relationship will define both of them. Come on writers start working!

Who is Gossip girl? Its Vanessa.

Good points about handling the college years and how it will be a challenge. I don't foresee how it's going to work. But I think you shortchanged 90210 and Dawson's Creek.

90210 went through the college years and beyond. If it was mediocre, the show wouldn't have latest as long as they did.

Dawson's Creek also faired kind of well with 2 seasons of college. Better than The O.C.

And at least credit Saved by the Bell for being one of the first (if not THEE first) to even go there.

well the good thing is that they (the writers) didn't really rely on high school to fuel the plots of the show (maybe for blair but thats about it) and the characters are more adult than i have ever seen in any teen drama. they'll be fine =)

I loved the season finale! The last scene was so goofy, but somehow I think that everyone who is for Chuck and Blair was smiling like an idiot throughout the scene - I know I was. It was so sweet, but has Chuck really changed or is this just temporary? Has he really gotten over all of his issues? I guess we have to wait and see...

As for Gossip Girl I don't think that we'll even know who she is. I don't even think that the producers and writers could point to one person. I liked the idea how everyone is GG because it's true, so I don't think that it's important who's actually posting the gossip.

I thought the last two episodes were somewhat out of left field. First we have an unexpected flashback (the first in the series) and a strong focus on one of the parents. We have Gerogina in uberChristian mode aiding in Blaire's plot.
Then follow that episode with one focused mainly on graduation where we totally forget about last week's flashback and Georgina and the missing money and the MIA sister and father all until the end of the episode. I mean i know it's not supposed to be a Scorsese film or anything, but I feel like they really struggled with the last two episodes....
That being said, i love the show and can't wait to see what drama they create for us next season.
Until then...
xoxo

Gossip girl is definitely Vanessa. Not only are Vanessa's secrets never outed, Nate's gigolo stint wasn't outed either. Vanessa makes movies so she's a fit for the drama. Next season would be good to out whatever secrets Vanessa has.

Based on tv season finale, gossip girl is posotivly vanessa. She wasn't seated with the other graduates whenvthe blast during the graduation hit. When they're talking about trying to find gossip girl she fades into the background. Chuck says gossip girl must be sitting in the room with them during the party and who just left for doughnuts? Vanessa and dan. There's no way gossip girl could be dan, he'd never out his fling with the teacher. Lastly, there are never any big blasts about her. She's always there but not really one of the elite. It would also exsplain why dan was refered to as the ultimate insider.
