[UPDATE] CBS may pick up NBC's 'Medium,' says cancellation is 'inexplicable'

NBC may have canceled 'Medium,' but the show's producer, CBS Television Studios, is not ready to pull the plug just yet.

Insiders say that corporate sibling CBS may pick up the show, and EW speculates it could be paired with Friday-night hit "Ghost Whisperer."

But either way, the studio is not happy, releasing the following statement Tuesday morning: "NBC's cancellation of 'Medium' is inexplicable to us."

Then it got ugly: "The ratings don't lie. 'Medium' outperforms many of NBC's renewed shows. Despite inconsistent scheduling, 'Medium,' under the creative vision of Glenn Gordon Caron, one of the most preeminent producers in television, has always performed with distinction both creatively and commercially.  Multiple-award-winning actress Patricia Arquette and the cast have delivered a stellar series for five consistent seasons. The awards and ratings speak for themselves. We believe the show has a significant future and await developments."

Update: A previous version of this story said CBS had picked up "Medium." That has not been confirmed.

Not to peeve off the Chuck fans, but the late Chuck renewal is likely what killed Medium. Though I am sure the show will do well on CBS. My whole household likes the show it.

Ghost Whisperer and Medium are similar but also different. My family has not consistently watched the show between Ghost Whisperer and Numb3rs, if Medium is the next show taking that slot, I will definitely be watching all three programs.

MEDIUM's fans wrote something to CBS here :

Our family also watches The Ghost Whisperer and programming Medium will definitely get us to actually watch it. After watching 2 hours of riveting TV with Chuck and Heroes, we felt overwhelmed and needed the last hour to decompress before bedtime. Medium always seemed too slow after Chuck and Heroes.

Putting Leno in the last time slot may actually be a good thing since we normally don't watch anything past 9pm c/10pm e. This way good shows will be on at an early more accessable time and we can effectively ignore Leno (like we always have).

I'm happy to see Medium get picked up. While not a fan of Ghost Whisperer at all, the pairing makes some sense. I have tried to watch Medium as religiously as possible given the erratic scheduling. It's a great show, with (despite the psychic subject matter) one of the most realistic families (and marriages!) on TV.

Yay for CBS for picking it up. It almost makes me forgive Moonves for cancelling Joan of Arcadia. Well, no, not really. (One reason I don't really watch much of what CBS has to offer. Residual resentment.)

Finally someone who shares me disdain over the untimely cancellation of "Joan of Arcadia". "Medium" is great, though, I hope CBS picks it up.

Sorry NBC that you cancel Medium. I hope CBS is smart enough to pick it up with the same cast, the fans of the show will follow it. SVU without Meloni and Marisha and no medium you are a loser NBC. You think that Lenno in an early show will save you doubt it!

I was surprised when NBC canceled Medium. It's the only network show I watch. The other shows are The Closer and Saving Grace non-network. The writing is much better than most dramas on network TV. Because of Medium I watch one reality show The Biggest Loser and local news. When I see the ads on NBC I would check out the Biggest Loser and since it was on channel 4, would continue watching their local news also.

If CBS picks up Medium, I'll definitely go over there and not watch NBC anymore. I'll probably get more familiar with CBS's line-up and check out some of their shows.

"Medium" is the best show on NBC and I thought it was just going to be the season finale, not the show's finale on the network. I was shocked when I found that out today.

However, I am relieved and hopeful that CBS will pick it up. I know that it's a top-rated show and can't understand why NBC would be stupid or careless enough to drop it from their lineup.

Perhaps the producers were running out of ideas for the show and were ready to quit but I doubt it.

If CBS picks it up, they will be the winners. I will definitely follow the show there and continue to be a loyal fan. It has GREAT acting and stories. I love the people in it. And I know a lot of people who feel the same way that I do about that show.

I also think it's a huge mistake to replace Leno at his usual time slot with Conan, who is awful. Who is making these AWFUL decisions at NBC????

I love medium, i live in ireland and have watch every episode,, on sky,
it is the best show ever made, i do hope to see it back (e/6) soon

the bigest fan ever

I am so happy to see that Medium will be picked up by CBS. I, too, think it is the best show that NBC has, so I think they're making a BIG mistake. Anyway, glad to hear it will still be on the air!!!! Thanks, CBS, for picking it up.

I love Medium and watch it every week that it's on. Chuck, Heroes and then Medium, but I watch it since the beginning, when it didn't follow those shows. I just love Patricia Arquette and have been a fan of hers since I first saw Stigmata. If you have to cancel anything, get rid of all those Reality shows, their time is over. The celeb news shows are OK, and I do watch them from time to time, but can the Reality Shows Please.

I never missed this show, please CBS to the smart thing and and put back on. It will have a good audience for sure!

who cares about the freakin ghost whisperer and all that crap. if its a good show, you watch it. medium is awesome and its gone on 6 seasons so thats gotta count for something. if there's no 7th season, a lot of people will be disappointed and mad. and i will be one of them.

I love both Ghost WHISPERS AND MEDIUM!!MY HOUSEKEEPER AND I LOOK FORWARD TO WATCHING THE SHOWS, HOWEVER, I AM VERY FRUSTRATED WITH THE ERATIC SCHEDULING. VJG
