MC Hammer is back in prime time as the star of his own A&E reality series.

The network announced today it had ordered 11 episodes of ‘Hammertime,’ following the lives of the ‘90s rap star and his family, which includes his wife of 23 years and their brood of seven (children and nephews ranging in age from 3 to 21).

Hammer, nee Stanley Burrell, was most recently seen selling his gold for cash during this year’s Super Bowl. He previously appeared in the original cast of ‘The Surreal Life.’

The Hammer family currently lives in Oakland, Calif. where Hammer, in addition to child-rearing, is trying to launch a social media site and an iPhone application, runs his ‘social media optimized music label,’ performs at concerts and juggles speaking engagements.

“Each week we’ll open our home to viewers to showcase the hectic pace of our lives and our eclectic family; our real life truly is drama,” Hammer said.

3 Ball Productions Inc. will produce the series for A&E. ‘Hammertime’ will premiere later this year.
