Fox News' Chris Wallace: Is Obama even president?

"Well, again, we're wondering here whether or not Barack Obama in fact is the president of the United States," Chris Wallace told Fox News viewers, well over an hour after Obama had taken the oath of office today.

Fox News replayed the swearing-in moment when President Obama and Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. each bobbled the words to the constitutional oath. "They had a kind of garbled oath," Wallace said.

"It's just conceivable that this will end up going to the courts," Wallace speculated.

A bit of wishful thinking on behalf of (presumably conservative) Fox viewers?

Perhaps. But Wallace quickly added: "As Brit Hume rightly pointed out, if it goes to the Supreme Court, certainly Chief Justice Roberts will say that he took the oath."

Now I know why I don't watch Fox if this is all the better Chris Wallace can do. Shame on you.

Is Chris Wallace just stupid? Even if a case could be made that the oath was botched, what could be gained by going to the courts? Make Obama say it again? Perhaps obama could take the oath in a private gathering JUST TO MAKE SURE IT TOOK, and just as many presidents like Johnson had to do in emergency situations. The answer to my first question above is unequivocally YES.

Sheesh, Wallace is a real piece of work. As CNN pointed out, constitutionally Obama became president at noon, even though he hadn't recited the oath. The oath isn't what makes Obama the President.

But it figures that the justice Obama voted against confirmation for bungled the oath of office, and Obama - a constitutional scholar and lawyer - waited for Roberts to correct himself.

Chris Wallace does not live up to his father's name.

Typical FOX BS

You must be kidding, right? Justice Roberts flubs his one most public duty and President Obama graciously follows along rather than embarrassing the man, and you want to turn this into a constitutional crisis??? Get over your paranoid, conspiracy-minded pseudo-journalism and try and report the truth for a change.

Sigh, I was sure that people would be mentioning that. So what happens if he didnt' take the oath correctly? The presidency goes to mccain? xD

The ship has sailed. Time to get back in the water ourselves.

Bret Hume is an idoit.

Well there are 20 or so other cases that have been or that are going to the Supreme Court asking if Obama is a natural born citizen. At this time we still do not know if Obama is eligible to be President. If not eligible sworn in or not he is not President. Cases are continuing to try and seek production of Obama's records that he has sealed or tried to destroy. We have yet to see a copy of his birth certificate to confirm that he was even born in Hawaii. So regardless of being sworn in we still do not know if we have a President.

I have to wonder how they are presumably conservative? Fox News has an audience larger than all the other network combined, far more than the majority of viewers watch this channel. If they were all conservative how did Obama get elected?

Is it possible they just watch fox news so they don't have to hear people making unfounded and libelous attacks like you just did? Think about it a little... Whether its for morality's sake or just to keep from going bankrupt, you should take note.

you are an idiot chris wallace. a real jack ass. this is all you have to contribute on a day like today? wow.

If it goes to the USSC, Roberts will have to recuse himself.

So Chris Wallace tries to create a controversy where there is none, and incorrectly credits Brit Hume with something that does not dispel the controversy.

Should give the Rush-Hannity-Beck fans something to talk about for the next four years in addition to Bill Clinton's penis.

Faux Noise - stop - you and your Ilk and so passe'

Roberts screwed up and Obama knew it, and that's why he stumbled.

I know your followers are going to just eat this up, because they're so unaware. Stupid is and stupid does.

Chris Wallace is an ass. He works for the ass network and is interesting only to the asses who watch it.

Only Fox. Do people still watch Fox?

Obama is President whether he took the oath or not. There is no Constitutional requirement for the oath. This is typical snarky right-wing cr*p trying too sow seeds of fear, uncertainty and hate. What a load!

Please tell me you're kidding. This did not actually happen. Is this guy for real? He took the oath on stage in front of millions! I voted for McCain, and I really didn't like either candidate, but how psychotic do you have to be to still be questioning whether or not Obama is the 44th president? This is just rediculous! Grow up and give up already! It is OVER! C'mon Fox news! Get over your demographic positioning already!

Classic Fox, as the President said there are some who don't even know the earth has shifted beneath them. You dinosaurs can keep trying to hold the country back, or maybe you can set aside the childish things, grow up, or get out of the way. Of course we recognize you do this not to hold the country back but for your own selfish purposes, to keep a job with an organization (Fox News) on the wrong side of history.

Oh, please. He took the oath. I'm not a demacrat and I'm very conservative, but I don't think that just because President Obama and Chief Justice Roberts bobbled the oath means that it isn't official. Just because people bobble their wedding vows doesn't mean that they're not married. I think we need to get back to reality and accept the fact the Barack Obama is our president. We need to focus on what we can do for our country in spite of that fact.

Wow - Amazing how Fox can be so hard-headed and sniping in the face of a moment of such national pride, especially considering that it was W's own right-wing appointee who gave the wrong words for Obama to repeat!
