'CSI' and Laurence Fishburne rebound in ratings

January 30, 2009 | 12:47 pm

Last week we wondered whether the exit of star William Petersen from CBS' "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" signaled a ratings decline for the forensics drama.

Well, maybe not.

On Thursday, "CSI" rebounded with 20.1 million total viewers, according to early data from Nielsen Media Research. That was much higher than the previous week's 17.6 million for the first episode since Petersen's departure, and it was the fourth most-watched "CSI" this season. The results offer evidence that viewers may be adjusting well to Petersen's replacement, Laurence Fishburne.

We still think given the age of Thursday's top series that the night is ripe for a programming shakeup.

But the durability of "CSI" suggests that that shakeup might not happen as soon as we thought.

Here in Las Vegas, Nevada, Lawrence Fishburne is not doing the show any favors by repeatedly mispronouncing our state's name. That would not happen in real life without others around him correcting his error.

It is pronounced neh-VAD-uh ('a' as in dad).

It's Laurence not Lawrence. So take that as your revenge for the Missprounouncation of you state's name.

I love all the CSI's but there is something missing from the CSI:Crime scene investigation episodes...First the scenery is dull and almost like a morgue...

Second..the stars dont seem to be motivated..they remind me of me when I worked at an organisation for 15 years..they look miserable..Yes they are in the business of solving crimes but it shouldnt take over their whole aura...

WHY would anyone in las vegas worry about something like that as if people from nevada have some sort of sentimental value to where they are from
