Alone among networks, Fox News gives Bush homecoming cheer

Former Vice President Dick Cheney and other Bush administration officials sometimes let it be known that they stuck with Fox News for their informational needs. And on Tuesday, Fox News returned the favor, even as the rest of Washington remained gripped by Obama fever.

Late Tuesday afternoon, Fox News was the only major national TV outlet that carried a live telecast of former President Bush's homecoming speech to cheering supporters in Midland, Texas.

"Sometimes what I did wasn't popular," a smiling Bush told the crowd. "But that's OK. I always did what I thought was right."

The rest of the networks, however, did not see the Bush address as news fit to broadcast. At 6:40 p.m. EST, MSNBC was in the middle of "Hardball," with host Chris Matthews and guests batting around the meaning of Obama's swearing-in. CNN was carrying live ongoing coverage of the final moments of the inaugural parade, with the Obamas beaming from the White House reviewing stand.

The broadcast networks likewise did not cover the Bush speech. At least in Los Angeles, both KCBS-Channel 2 and KNBC-Channel 4 had returned to regular syndicated programming ("Judge Judy" and "Deal or No Deal"). KABC-Channel 7 was airing local news.

In less than 2 years, we will all wish Bush was still President.

For those of you who think FOX is slanted, just change the channel to MSNBC and quit crying.

Scott

Did the Networks telecast the Clinton homecoming? That's the real question I'd liked answered.

I wouldn't expect MSDNC to cover it, but not even gyp it for a minute, well. It is MSDNC. The 'TOOL' network of The Democrats.

CNN is a bit of a surprise.

Presidents in the past have used networks in the past so, what's new here?

It wasn't a total love affair kids. Bush wouldn't go on with Hannity with Colmes, and Cheney avoided BOR.

Let's give credit, Obama went on BOR and took the tough questions. Palin didn't, and except for way early on McCain didn't either.

Now in the next few weeks we will get to see who's tongue gives Obama the best anal licking.
personally I heard Olbermann is stocking up on Lube.

To those of you who say Fox News is nothing but propaganda and are only reporting it because it is Bush, please put down the kool-aid and take off the blinders. Presidential Inaugurations and Former President homecomings are history and have been covered as such in the past. Fox News and CNN both covered President Clinton's homecoming to Arkansas back in 2001. I remember when Clinton took office and we were watching the Inauguration in class, then later in the day the teacher turned on the TV to let us watch Bush 41s homecoming to witness how a President transitions to private life. The same happened when Reagan left office too. One more point is take a visit to a Presidential Library. In each, there are news reports of the Former President's homecoming. Also check out C-SPAN's shows on Presidential libraries and you will see some of these clips. Yesterday was a historic day for the new President and the former President and both deserve our respect as Americans. The Presidency is bigger than any man who has ever held it. It and the ones who hold or have held it deserve our respect even if they don't deserve our support at times. Support and Respect are two different things. Some of you can learn a little bit about the latter.

the news keeps covering the faux president it created, while the real president who did great things get completely ignored.

the lame sreet media created this usurper:
1- no real US birth certificate ever reviewed or approved by anyone
2- obama operatives burn his passport information in INS dept.
3- Cheney messes up the electoral count by ignoring the the constitution and US code by not asking for objections, as required.
4- obama swears in the chief justice as president as both screw up the oath
5- meanwhile over THIRTY lawsuits remain quesioning the illegal obama's unconstitutional election due to eligibility issues which refuse to go away, and the lame street media refuses to report the facts again

a new government is being formed according to the Constitution. 60 million people do not obviate the Constitutional rights of 300 million America, never.
www.restoretheconstitution.org

Americans are sick of this charade and the return to our ideals , our roots, our laws, our heritage, our constitution will come when we throw out these usurpers and tyrants that have hijacked our government, stolen our tax money, and keep ignoring the Constitution.

Stand up America!! The new American revolution is coming and the perjurers Pelosi, Reid, Feinstein (head of the DNC who did not vet Obama), Obama, and Biden will be held accountable.

Until the day of reckoning comes, OBama is a usurper, not the real president. He knows it, Congress knows it, and the military knows it.

George, we miss you already and I guarantee you, in a few short months the nation will wish they had you back. You were never appreciated for the effort and dedication you put forth in securing this nation from the ravages of terrorism. There are some in this society who expect government and Presidents to be like God, of which they are not. Those have now replaced you with a much lesser man, with fewer qualifications and they think they've done the world a service. Time will only show them how wrong they were. I hope most Americans got a little taste of it yesterday. Welcome to Amerika, the newest third world country.

I was amazed that Fox covered the speech...in a good way. It's been wall-to-wall Obama on all networks for some time. To some degree that's fine. He won. He's in. He's the man we'll count on for the next four years. Even the Obamas admit Bush has been quite gracious and magnanimous in the transition. You won't hear that said often but it's true. The (by nearly all accounts fair) Pew Research Center declared Fox News the most balanced coverage of the election. Even the NYTimes ombudsman declared her own news (and most mainstream news) unfairly slanted during that time. Now I'm talking about NEWS --- not editorial/analysis shows like O'Reilly and Hannity. The evening news from Special Report (Hume/Baier) and the Fox Report (Smith) are straightforward and fair. It speaks volumes that Hillary and Bill Clinton -- and even Barack Obama appeared in interviews with them...despite all the negativity on blogs.

In the end, like him or not he was elected (NOT selected) by America twice. He served during a time of extraordinary circumstances and made sweeping changes -- approved by Congress -- in the ways in which we approach terrorism and threats abroad. With the might of our military ousted the Taliban and Saddam Hussein and established two democracies in the heart of a part of the world that generally hates us. He took us to war -- with Congressional approval -- and failed to find WMD -- and most Americans grew sour with him. But it's hard to say he was a "Party above all" guy since he went against their recommendations for most of his second term. Decisions based on focus groups were not his style. He was a lousy speaker. But to trash him and call him everything short of the Devil is absurd. He was and is a courageous man who never waivered in what he thought was right and good about America.

Love him or hate him, you gotta give him that much...if you're honest.

I think devoting 5-10 minutes to cover his welcome home speech is reasonable. They did it for Clinton. All the networks should have done it this time. Only one did.

Now I'm wishing OUR new president well...for ALL our sake.

Obama Drones! LOL
All this tells me ( as a republican ) is that i need to work harder and put in more hours so that a demoRAT can stay home!

Democrats/Liberals purport to be the party and ideology of peace, forgiveness and love. Just read a few of the posts from any Democrat and you quickly learn the truth. Democrats and liberals are bigots and a disgrace to America. George Bush did an excellent job considering what he was facing. Bill Clinton had ample opportunities to "take out or retrieve" Osama, and he chose not to. Bush's presidency and the American people paid the price. Big Government watchdog groups let us down on the banking end, not George Bush. You liberals are cowards. You got what you deserve, and then some!

Woundering why Faux news anchors stayed in there comfy warm broadcast buildings covering the big event hmmmmmmmmmmmm,

while all the other channels where at ground zero in the cold , hmmmmmmm,

the closest Faux got to the big event was on top of a 20 story building well away from the crowd of Americans hmmmm,

but Faux was at ground zero for Bush in Texas, hmmmmmmmmmm

I am continually amazed at the hatred expressed by the left. While GB might not have lived up to everyones expectations, he was still our president. The left wanted him to fail in the worst way which only hurt ALL of us. While I did not vote for BHO he is still my President and I hope he succeds. We all will benefit from his success, and maybe now some of the extreme hatred will be quieted for a while.

Too bad he didn't go back to his real home of massachusetts or new hampsire or where ever it is... I HATE when people say he is from Texas, HE IS NOT FROM TEXAS!

The MSM is now a branch of the DNC. It's like the press during the Soviet Union minus the government control.

I guess that is why Fox News is called FAIR AND BALANCE. All the other networks are the ones that got Obama elected and find it hard to be balanced in thier news coverge.Just remember there is 47% of this country that didn't vote for Obama. Check the ratings i believe Fox beats all,

bob Ellensburg Wa.

I watched the coverage of Bush's homecoming and am glad I did. In fact, I enjoyed Bush's "homecoming" speech better than the staged spectacle in Washington- not that I'm pro whoever, etc: it was simply less scripted and more from the heart. I'm glad Fox covered it and hated that they eventually broke away BEFORE Bush was finished speaking.

Someone named Eddie posted "Well done Fox!!!!!! Bush Rules!!" To which I can only reply, "Not any more, thank the gods!"

My God I cant believe what I,m hearing out there what a bunch of hatefull people. This was the best transition in history. No matter what you think of the former president he did keep us safe since 9/11. This just goes to show the true heart of the left or lack there of. THANK YOU FOX NEWS FOR FAIR AND BALANCE REPORTING and may god lead Barak to make good decisions for our country.

china censors news maybe the idiots here who condem fox news want the same. Thank God for Bush I am very proud of him. Those of you who pray to Obama good luck trying to find the truth.

Anyone who relies on television for their news demands the disdain of those of us who READ both conservative AND liberal domestic press (to compare and contrast the biases), the international press (to sort out nationalist biases), and the global financial pages (because those matter most) every single day.

What kind of person needs their news read to them by the symmetric faces of shiny-lipped trollops? FOX, CNN, MSNBC are all for the same type of vapid, irrational, intellectually needy American children. The best thing a patriot can do is throw away their television and buy a high-speed internet connection.

A pathetic conclusion to a pathetic presidency.
