Alone among networks, Fox News gives Bush homecoming cheer

Former Vice President Dick Cheney and other Bush administration officials sometimes let it be known that they stuck with Fox News for their informational needs. And on Tuesday, Fox News returned the favor, even as the rest of Washington remained gripped by Obama fever.

Late Tuesday afternoon, Fox News was the only major national TV outlet that carried a live telecast of former President Bush's homecoming speech to cheering supporters in Midland, Texas.

"Sometimes what I did wasn't popular," a smiling Bush told the crowd. "But that's OK. I always did what I thought was right."

The rest of the networks, however, did not see the Bush address as news fit to broadcast. At 6:40 p.m. EST, MSNBC was in the middle of "Hardball," with host Chris Matthews and guests batting around the meaning of Obama's swearing-in. CNN was carrying live ongoing coverage of the final moments of the inaugural parade, with the Obamas beaming from the White House reviewing stand.

The broadcast networks likewise did not cover the Bush speech. At least in Los Angeles, both KCBS-Channel 2 and KNBC-Channel 4 had returned to regular syndicated programming ("Judge Judy" and "Deal or No Deal"). KABC-Channel 7 was airing local news.

Bravo Fox!!! Bush you deserve a heros welcome! WE love you

thank you President Bush. You have nothing to be ashamed of when you look in the mirror. We all do the best we can with what we have. Thank you for our safety and thank you for being an honest, caring President.
Hope you have a wonderful retirement, you certainly have earned it.
Sorry for the disrespect you received at the Inauguration, these are the childish, classless people that will be in the White House. Rahm Emmanual is a good example.
Happy retirement to you and Laura, God Bless.

There's something for everyone -- both for the 53% of America who voted for Mr. Obama, and the 46% of us who didn't (a margin of just 3.5%, as Mr. Obama appears to understand based on his acts since election), as well as those channel flippers in between.

Bush's homecoming speech was noteworthy news. As was the inauguration, the parade, the balls, the new whitehouse.gov site, and all the other stuff that comes with a change of administration. It's nice to see that some news organization covered it. Those that didn't -- not even to time-shift it, have shown a certain level of blindness -- or worse.

As for one poster's statement of Mr. Bush's irrelevance, one merely has to look at all the Bush policies and actions (like Guantanamo and our force commitments in Iraq and Afghanistan), with which Barack Obama is not tinkering in any meaningful way. We've not had a single terrorist attack on our homeland since 9/11, a record nobody expected, and which, if maintained, will come because Mr. Bush took direct action and Mr. Obama continued them.

Thanks FOX! I am thankful after 9/11 we had a President that set in place a doctrine that has most assuredly kept us safe.

And remember this as we embrace our new President, "A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everyting you have." Thomas Jefferson

You Bush haters are amazing and a disgrace. It is a sad commentary on our Leftist news media that only one network covered this event. Former President Bush was relaxed, funny, charming, and very much like Ronald Reagan. It is too bad he wasn't more this way with the American people when he was in office. Very genuine - more so than Obama has ever been or ever will be. And Bush made one very true comment - there were no further attacks on American soil after 9/11.

And BTW, if Bush and his policies were SO bad, why is the Almighty One now adopting so many of them? Give that some thought and reflection, if you can. But perhaps I should just smile and be cheery, because I am told that all of our problems are now ending, everyone will now love us, and we will all be one happy little commune.

I wept as President Bush left Washington DC yesterday. As a christian, with eyes wide open, I see what is behind the deceptive criticisms of this good and Godly man. I worry for a nation where a deceptive media with an agenda can influence so many and convince them so easily that good is evil and evil is good. God help us as a people that are so hungry for a king that we miss the King of Kings. Time will tell the story and will show GWB as a kind and wonderful
President. One good thing about our new President is that there can be no more lame excuses for blacks not reaching their potential by blaming whites. I've had to put up with lazy and sorry blacks in the workplace for 30 years now that could not be fired because they were black. Not one arrest in Washington yesterday out of 2 million mostly blacks. Now we know you know how to behave, so no more violence and bad behavior homies! Thanks Fox News for a conservative voice in a liberal and biased media.

It's not just the media that cherry picks it's stories. It's not just about whether or not a particular media outfit may like or at least respect the outgoing president when 99% of the others conspicuously do not and still lie to their readers by saying that they are more objective than each other.

Let's make it simple: An outgoing president's homecoming, while not as spectacular as the incoming oneis still a news story. To not cover it implies an absence of objectivity on that subject.

What's worse is that because of that lack of objectivity, many people don't know why they feel hatred for something. If you ask many celebs in Hollywood why they don't like George Bush, they'll answer vaguely or call him a name. They don't know why they hate but they do no less. A readership that is not skeptical of a news organization's sources especially when dealing with politicians and lawyers most of the time make it all the easier to deceive the public. Tell a big lie enough times and it will become the truth.

It is interesting to see how people turned the issue around and said Fox was bias for covering G.W. Bush homecoming. It's disgraceful that all news agencies did not, it shows you how bias the other stations are not the other way around. Bush did an excellent job of helping the transition take place and not make any snide remarks, or white house pranks to take place. He truly only wants the best for the Nation and wants Obama to succeed even if he does not agree with his policies.

"faux news" what a joke! I don't hate Mr. Bush but I do realize he was horrible for America. He DIDN'T keep us safe. 09/11/01 is proof of that. Our economy? Pollution? Torture? Treason? Do you really need a list of his crimes against America? He will forever be remembered as the worst as "faux news" will always be seen as the propaganda arm of the formally corrupt White House. As a conservative this has been a painful 8 years!

LIke him or not, Bush is the former president and him leaving office should be covered by the news outlets and it was low class of the other media outlets not to cover it. How many networks have I seen covering the 'first dance' of Obama last night....like that is news????

Wow. Have a little kool-aid with all your cynicism. Fox News covered the story, no one else did. Good for Fox. That said, do yourself a favor and turn off the tv and read. Analytical thinking via reading will broaden your horizons and let you make up your own mind on George Bush's policies instead of a ranting tv fool trying to sell a product. Wall Street Journal, The Economist, NY Times, etc., etc. Yeah, they've got their own biases...who doesn't? Reading will help you see the little items the broadcast media refuses or is inable to divulge. For example, the economic "crisis" was caused by greed, right? Whatever. Greed is forever. But check your gov't policies and attempts to correct them. Google "Barney Frank" and "roll the dice" Or see easy monetary policy. To blame George or greed alone is to leave the henhouse door open after you've removed the fox. Never mind the den next door.

Interesting how the left-wing views Bush....Not the hate part but that it was not news-worthy. No one suggested that Bush's homecoming should rate equal time with the Obama inauguration. But I would suggest that a minute or 2 of coverage out of every 60 minutes seems to be in order. BTW, I don't remember a lot of disparaging remarks in general about Clinton's homecoming. However, there were some comments about his STAFF and THEIR antics....including sabotaging phones and keyboards....How juvenile!!! Even the left-wing media made note that Bush went overboard to make the transition to Obama smooth...which is what anyone in his position should do. I was NOT a huge fan of Bush. I think he betrayed conservative principles. I don't think any reasonable person would want President Obama and his staff to face the BS President Bush and his staff had to contend with. I guess if he and his family left the White House taking things that don't belong to them, THEN there would have been coverage of his White House departure and homecoming.

That shows how liberally biased the rest of the media is. Thank God for Fox News to provide some balance and to give true meaning to the first amendment.

"HEYSuan, calling President Bush "a man of dignity" is hilarious. Did the media "slant" his many speeches where he struggled to put together a coherent sentence?"

Did we here GW Bush flubber his swearing in ?Cause we sure did hear it on 1/20/09

Wonder who the media will bash next !

i love how lefties attack fox for covering a news event- it was far more exciting watching people in the new administration stand around and talk to eachother with voiceoers from matthews and olberman, the rest of MSN, NBC, CBS, ABC, PBS, BET, CNN, and BBC mindlessly and repeatedly make verbal love to everything Obama- just like they did on the campaign trail. now that's journalism, or at least what it has become. its also why so many of them (but NOT FOX) are losing ratings and money!
Godspeed Mr. Bush- job well done!

I don't know how many on the right will support the new president. However i am sure that this president will be treated with more respect by the right than President bush has been afforded. The left is still the imature snobs that evolved after Truman. We can only hope they will not be so spoiled as to distroy their president but even that would not surprise me as you can hear rumblings already. You on the left need to grow up get over yourselves and keep this country first. Some would call your recent antics treason and I would be one of them.

Of course Fox News was the only network to show the former President returning to his home. Fox News is the only News outlet that is FAIR AND BALANCED!

Its so sad that many people leaving comments here are so ignorant. How many of you actually have watched FOX News? They are the only station that tries to be fair in their coverage. Their news anchors are not doing the same type of show as their commentators such as Hannity. He is conservative and you know it. He doesn't try to pretend that he is providing a balanced presentation. The FOX anchors are different and cover the good and bad of politicans regardless of party affiliation. The other networks use their anchors to push an agenda through the news they cover and don't cover as well the comments they make. When has the mainstream media other than FOX ever give a Democrat a tough interview? Never!!! They ask about their favorite food, or other nonsense. If you want to get a clue about the bias, check out Newsbusters.org

News Outlets are supposed to report the news. Not "support who they like". Fox does this, they are demonized. Every other news outlet snubs the outgoing President of the United States of America, and it's because they don't like him, and THAT is okay. For all of your seemingly intelligent discussions, your inability to apply any kind of simple logic and objectivity to any topic regarding our government removes any doubt about what kind of people you really are. Enjoy your savior, I hope he is everything you wished for. Because although he is not my candidate of choice, he is my President, and my love for my country surpasses any possible childish animosity that I could harbor for a man in an office that none of us could possibly encompass the stresses, pressure, and anguish that must come from the duty at that high of a level. Enjoy your safe and free country, just like the Iraqis are.

If everyone thinks that FOX is so slanted, why is it the most watched news in AMERICA. You say that Bush killed thousands, remember people, they killed us first on 9/11. Bush has prevented another major attack on our soil while he was in office. If it wasn't for his agressive preventive measures, the next could have been you killed. While I am middle of the road, I look at ALL issues. Thank you LA for bringing this to our attention. FOX is fair and balanced, they showed our NEW honorable president take office as well as our great PROTECTIVE leader who has just left. It's easy people. Look at it ALL.
