Alone among networks, Fox News gives Bush homecoming cheer

Former Vice President Dick Cheney and other Bush administration officials sometimes let it be known that they stuck with Fox News for their informational needs. And on Tuesday, Fox News returned the favor, even as the rest of Washington remained gripped by Obama fever.

Late Tuesday afternoon, Fox News was the only major national TV outlet that carried a live telecast of former President Bush's homecoming speech to cheering supporters in Midland, Texas.

"Sometimes what I did wasn't popular," a smiling Bush told the crowd. "But that's OK. I always did what I thought was right."

The rest of the networks, however, did not see the Bush address as news fit to broadcast. At 6:40 p.m. EST, MSNBC was in the middle of "Hardball," with host Chris Matthews and guests batting around the meaning of Obama's swearing-in. CNN was carrying live ongoing coverage of the final moments of the inaugural parade, with the Obamas beaming from the White House reviewing stand.

The broadcast networks likewise did not cover the Bush speech. At least in Los Angeles, both KCBS-Channel 2 and KNBC-Channel 4 had returned to regular syndicated programming ("Judge Judy" and "Deal or No Deal"). KABC-Channel 7 was airing local news.

George & Laura Bush are two class acts. They deserve our thanks for a job well done. Mistakes, W made a few. But small minds and haters will never acknowledge any good in the man. They only show their smallness and ignorance when they disrespect a U S President. There's a new sheriff in town. Let's all get behind him and wish him (us) the best.

What a SHAME that our out going President wasn't given the RESPECT (even if he was not liked), by the media. What a TRAVESTY that is..... This man kept our country SAFE for over 7 years and NOBODY and I MEAN NOBODY is even giving him credit for that. I just hope to GOD that Obama KEEPS us SAFE.... but I have deep deep concerns about that. I CONGRATULATE
GOD BLESS BUSH.... I wonder who the media will RAG ON NOW ???? It definitely won't be OBAMA.... they are all slobbering over him.... and will for his term that he is in office.

I agree with Mark. Thank you President Bush for protecting our country over the last eight years! You have done a great job protecting us from foreign attacks. By the way I do not blame President Bush our economic downturn. Our banking crisis is solely the result of Carter, Clinton , Fannie Mae , Freddie Mac, Chris Dodd, Barnie Frank , ACORN and the rest of the libs for shoving bad housing loans down the throats of our banking system so everyone could " own their own home" How is that working out?

Obama is a socialist and if he succeeds with his lib socialist agenda we will all lose, socialism never works

KT thought: >>>The question would be: in previous Presidential handovers, was the outgoing homecoming carried by various TV networks...?<<<

That's not quite the question, because trends do change. Is FOXNEWS starting a trend? Are they just hacks for W? Here's the real Q: In 8 years (maybe 4), will the 5 liberal networks cover BHO's homecoming? If so, then they are partisanly slighting W today; if not, then FOX is out on a limb with nothing to hold onto. Mark this one down for comparison and we will answer one more question either YES or NO as to whether the bulk of the media is biased for Sociali--er, I mean Democrats.

Teresa K. Your quote, "It saddens me deeply that a nation that was once PROUD and EDUCATED, has sunk so low. I can not believe the amount of hatred and stupidity that is written here." However, you are doing the very SAME in attempting to justify all of Bush's failures. Can you at least find ONE thing WRONG with President Bush? I wish ex-President Bush all the best. His mistakes is something he only need to reconcile. But I must express my feelings about him. After 9/11 he was given the most support any President ever enjoyed. What did he do after? He was running around believing he could do anything. Took the country to Iraq under false claims. When was the last time he even addressed the man who spearheaded the 9/11 attacks. BIN LADEN is still running around.

I am confused, I thought it was the Democrats that were supposed to be so gracious and accepting and non judgemental. I thought it was the liberals who fought for the freedom of speech.
The comments listed here say quite the opposite. They are mocking and jeering and spitting on a past president that kept this nation safe for the last 7 years. They are judging him and calling him a war criminal. Condemning him without a trial.
I don't see any grace or mercy offered from the left, it is only hatred and disdain.
I don't hate anyone nor do I rejoice in their deaths, but it seems to me that the left is wishing that Bush were dead. I find that repulsive.
I may not agree with Obama's agenda and I didn't agree with everything that Bush did while he was in the white house. But I certainly don't hate either of them. I pray for them and wish them well. disagreeing with someone is one thing, but wishing them disaster is another.
Shame on you! I thought you were supposed to be so OPEN-MINDED. but I guess it only is open to the ideas you deem as appropriate. What is it you people call that? Dogmatic? Narrow-minded? If you were truly "open-minded" you would accept all views. But do you?

Heaven forbid anyone have some respect for the office of the presidency. Bush going home was newsworthy and should have been covered. I don't care what your politics are, it was ridiculous that only one news network covered it. Bush kept the homeland safe for 7 years after 9/11/2001, and if he did NOTHING else right, he did that. That is the priority of any presidency, as Obama said last week.

Thanks Fox for ideologically promoting the 8-year tailspin. It's obvious you'd have it continue if you could. Thank God a majority of Americans no longer falls for it.

I watched a 60 minutes or PBS report (I forget) in 2000 in which the Democratic leader of the Texas State Assembly graciously commented on how then Governor Bush had consistently reached across the aisle to work in a bi-partisan manner for the good of the people of Texas. And Mr. Bush campaigned on a promise to bring a 'new tone' to Washington and work together with the Democrats in Congress. One of the first major pieces of legislation to be tackled by his new administration was the education reform known as 'No Child Left Behind'. He reached across the aisle to none other than Ted Kennedy and put him in a major position to affect the outcome of the legislation. More than a few people were unhappy with that move, but he did it in direct compliance with his promise to reach across the aisle and work in a bi-partisan way. About a week after the legislation was signed into law, Mr. Kennedy 'stabbed' Mr. Bush in the back, as it were, in effect saying "that is the only tone we will ever extend to you"! And with the exception of a brief respite beginning at 9/11/01 and going on for only a few months, his political opponents never missed an opportunity to attack, slander, demean, diminish, malign, misrepresent, and obstruct anything and everything he and his admistration attempted to do.

I began seriously watching politics in 1968 during the Democratic Convention in Chicago at the age of 16. I was shocked at the insanity of the time period and particularly the 'Chicago Seven' and all things surrounding the Democratic Convention. This is my 40th year of closely viewing the political landscape and I must say that I have never seen the unrelenting hatred and vitriol directed at one president, as has been toward Mr. Bush. It is I fear a very real barometer of the character/integrity or shall I say, lack thereof of the Democratic Party; a party possessed with the worldview of moral relativism. We have all recently heard various liberal pols and news media types speak about the need for a new tone in Washington and I must ask, "Where were your calls for a new tone the last eight years"? Many of these same pols and pundits facilitated the destructive tone of the last years, and now they want to turn over a new leaf?
"Consistency, thou art a jewel".

It struck me about a year ago that instead of 24/7/365 ad infinitum, ad naseum negativity and incivility; that is, attempting in everyway possible to destroy Mr. Bush, whom I consider a man of character, integrity, honor and just plain decency, what if the opposition party had invested just 50% of their energy in working together in a truly bi-partisan manner for the good of every American man, woman, boy and girl. Would we not certainly be in a much better state in terms of our economy, our domestica and foreign policy and our unity as American? And look at the manner in which Mr. and Mrs. Bush have conducted themselves in their 'off hours' in the white house. They have been a picture of decency, civility, hospitality and there was no unseemly behavior manifested at all! And Mr. Bush took all the lies, inuendos and hate-filled speech that were thrown at him with decorum, humor and grace. That in itself says so much about a man.

The great Will Rodgers said that he was partisan for both parties and also that any political leader who was viciously spoken against on a regular basis must have something very decent about them (my paraphrase).

Thank you Mr. Bush for trying to do the right thing in the face of the most amazing antaganism and opposition; often coming from people who should have been on your side (i. e. - fellow Americans). I will continue to pray for you and Mrs. Bush in the days to come and know for sure from this grateful citizen and many other Americans, your service has been appreciated! May the good Lord bless and keep you and yours!

thats one of the reasons FOX NEWS is the highest in ratings, because they cover every corner of the world, including - America, and yes a "President" going home, did they cover the Obama Inauguration YES, did they cover the way to the white house YES, did they cover.... YES did they cov..... YES .....YES

It was news, worthy and related to the day's main event. The main reason the other networks didn't cover it was that GW was the outgoing president.

Someone cover the return home of that guy? He should be send to Irak.

Thank God for President Bush. He had integrity, was faithful to his convictions, honored family, honored the presidency and protected America. When liberals speak you need to interpret everything 180 degrees. Their "truth" is always proved to be lies, hoax, and fraud. Take a hard look at liberal lies: Global Warming- politically created rhetoric purely to create fear, chaos, with the salvation being bigger, out of control government spending, Evolution - the atheist's "miracle" with all of creation supposed to be pure random chance, Economic practices. Look at past presidents: FDR kept this country downtrodden and in a depression vs. Reaganomics that gave us years of economic growth. Clinton rode Reagan's coat tails and took credit for it much as he took credit for Giulianni's decrease in violent crime. Can anyone say Clinton was honest, or had any morals, are you aware of his rape charge after being acquitted, his presidency was infamous for his use of cigars. Carter was a joke who caused the highest inflation. How about the Kennedy family's legacy of bootlegging, adultery, Bay of Pigs debacle,Chappaquiddick murder, etc. The economic mess we are in now was created by a democrat controlled congress. History will vindicate President Bush as having been a very good president. Not as great as Reagon, but good.

Again, thank you President Bush, Thank God you can now live without being the victim of liberal lies, distortions, and propaganda.

I wonder how the press will cover Obama when 2012 come to him. Will they cry and lament over his leaving Washington behind, will they cover him like they did Bubba eight years ago?

There is nothing wrong with covering the former President. It only goes to demonstrate that the press was in the tank for the democrats, Obama, clinton et al.

It is time for the Bush-haters get on with hating someone else, like Osama, or your momma!

Today, Wednesday January 21st, while driving down to Austin for business, I detoured through Crawford. I drove down Prairie Chapel road and saw one TX state trooper car watching President Bushes front gate. Inside the gate, three workers where moving dirt around from where communications trailers used to sit. It was just a State Trooper, three workers and myself at the gate on a beautiful 80 degree sunny day in central Texas. Just over the rise past the gate my President and his lovely wife rested and I'm sure enjoyed a quiet day on their ranch.

President Bush was elected 8 years ago by an electorate that wanted to have a President with character that would flap around with the direction of the polls. He did everything he could to keep this country safe without regard to those who don't agree or are uninformed. I thank him for being who he is and I admire him and his family for showing real class the past few months helping with the Obama transition.

For his work, he was booed on the dais yesterday by those who don't know what class is, or maybe it's just not important to them.

Enjoy your new life Mr. President. You have millions and millions of people around the world who appreciate your service to our country and those who cherish freedom..

I will support President Obama and respect his office throughout his term. My hope is that perhaps those who booed President Bush, might be able to be lead by example and rise above low class immature behavior.

Good for FOX. On the other hand no one expected those left wing propaganda machines (ABC. CBS, NBC. MSNBC and CNN) to cover the event.

This is why Fox News and its affiliates continue to lead and grow in viewership and ratings, while the rest wither away. Those that look to the partisan media for "fair and balanced journalism" are clueless.

THANK YOU PRESIDENT BUSH and Vice President Cheney for keeping our country safe since 9-11. I only pray the current President is as diligent on his watch.

Let's treat Obama the same way, we traded one loser for another. Bush term 3 and his fat wife.

Reading many of the comments shows that a true divide does exist between the Left and the Right. However the divide really isn't as much about political differences as it is about class.

the majority on the left have NONE, while most on the right will disagree, but do so in a disrespectful way.

You lefty loons will not remark positively about how Former President Bush (W) was very helpful to the President Obama transition into the White House. The class he showed in a smooth change of power, but at the same time most of those same loons think it is funny that Clinton pryed all the "W's" off every keyboard in the White House.

Why does NO ONE on the left point out the positives of this President. He has help two nations escape vicious tyrants who killed millions. He has expanded open trade with more nations in the Western Hemisphere than ANY previous President. He increased Foreign Aid to AFRICA in monumental fashion to help fight Aids/HIV and poverty. But more importantly he did everything he thought he needed to do to ensure Americans were kept free and safe.

I am a conservative, and a disappointed Republican. I am grateful for what President Bush has done for us, but disagree with him, his immigration policy was not good, NCLB had good intentions; however, control of schools belongs at the local level, and mostly due to the massive increase in national debt during his tenure (the war cost too much, but the income redistribution programs cost more)

As a conservative I agree FoxNews leans Right. And it should be noted, and agreed upon, that CNN, ABC, and CBS news leans Left. MSNBC and parent NBC are left wing freak shows.

But not to cover Bush's 10-12 minute speech is disgraceful.

President Bush recently commented after some reporter threw a show at him, "Hey that is freedom and in America some give me a salute without using all their fingers" AMEN

President Bush, I know you are too classy for this, but now that you are not President feel free to give you detractors the one finger salute.
