'Lost' Season 5 premieres in January

Leave it to "Lost" to be off the air and still be offering up some Easter eggs.

Today, our competitor over at Entertainment Weekly, made a startling discovery on ABC.com. There, for all the world to see, was the premiere date of the much-anticipated fifth season of the island drama: Jan. 21 at 8 p.m.

How is it possible that ABC would sneak that information onto a website instead of yelling it to the world? We haven't gotten to the bottom of this latest mystery, but we are sure that the Dharma Initiative is behind it. When we contacted ABC to confirm the report, we were first told its lineup was not official.

That did not stop us. If the island can move, so can we. We then found out that, yes, "Lost" returns on Jan. 21 with -- get this -- a three-hour premiere event. The first hour is a clip show, followed by two back-to-back episodes. Three hours of Ben, Locke, Jack and Kate. Three hours of islands, and far-flung cities, and time-traveling. Three hours.

Then, it will air on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. (The network will announce next week when "Private Practice" will air in mid-season.)

If this news is not exciting enough, check out the trailer!
