'Gossip Girl': Gobble gossip
Has it already been a year since the last "Gossip Girl" Thanksgiving episode? While some things have changed --Serena is no longer with Dan, the Humphreys aren't so hunky-dory -- others have remained the same. Blair still yearns to keep family tradition alive, Lily is once again noshing on mashed potatoes at Rufus' dining room table and secrets still pour out of the Upper East Side like hot gravy.
One secret revealed in tonight's episode was Lily's stint in the looney bin. We don't know yet what she went in for, so I can't help but theorize what may have driven her crazy. I'm guessing her relationship with Rufus had something to do with it -- perhaps she was despondent over their breakup? Those two share a bond that goes beyond young love, so I wouldn't be surprised if circumstances from the past etched their eternal connection to each other.
The couple I'd wish would reconnect is Dan and Serena. As much as their gratuitous displays of affection were, at times, gag inducing, they had chemistry, an element S lacks with Aaron. She can't even be her real self around him (would anyone believe Serena is a teetotaler?) and frankly, meeting a sober artist is like finding an honest politician. Their relationship has "zzz" written all over it, so I wonder how long it will be until Serena sees the light.
The holiday definitely had a positive impact on Nate and Jenny, who both reached some clarity and did the right thing. After a surprise visit from the Captain, Nate is spared an exiled life in Dominica and convinces his dad to turn himself into the feds. He also sparks things up with Vanessa, who is obviously still in love with him and is ready to do what it takes to keep Nate to herself. Things don't look good for V. She's not as well-liked (or as likable) as Jenny, so it's unlikely she'll be redeemable when the deception comes from her end.
All is well in the Humphrey household now that Jenny is back living at the loft. As much as I love the rebellious Little J, I also can't bear to see Rufus' sad puppy dog eyes. It's no wonder Lily can't stay away. She needs to ditch creepy, untrustworthy Bart Bass and march her fabulous self back to Rufus.
So before you sink your teeth into that turkey leg, share your thoughts. What do you think drove Lily into a mental institution? Will Vanessa and Jenny's friendship survive the impending love triangle?
Also, since we get a break from "Gossip Girl" next week, happy early Thanksgiving!
xoxo

Lily was definitely depressed because of Rufus, maybe she even tried to kill herself?? I was a little disappointed with the "big secret" though--it could have been a little more intense than that, but it seems like they are still developing it. From the looks of things though Bart is going to die next week anyway (EW already confirmed someone is dying, and Radar magazine did a great piece on why it will obviously be him since he is the Caleb Nichol-OC equivalent) , probably before the reason Lily was in the Ostroff-like center comes out to everyone.
Aaron needs to go--and he definitely did NOT deserve to get Serena's background file.

I think Lily and Rufus had a love child and Lily's mother made her give up the baby. Rufus probably never knew. This is what sent Lily to the institution.

When is anyone on this show actually going to have an argument with screaming and shouting (other than Little J and her frenemy, psycho Agnes)? The show is losing its edge, episode by episode.

The show lost a little steam last week, but picked it back up nicely. The Century 21 comment had me rolling! When is the Jenny spinoff coming?

My geuss is that Lily was pregnant and was either forced by her mother to give the baby up for adoption or have an abortion. That certainly would've been enough to send her over the edge.

I am over 24 and could have kids on this show as well. I started watching this show with my daughters (18 & 21) and I love it. We tape it when we can't watch it. It's been fun watching the lifestyles of the rich and famous--even if a lot of them are teenagers. I enjoy the parental story lines too. I think Lily and Rufus have a child out there somewhere and I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't someone on the show already--maybe that trashy Georgiana. (Remember she lost her viriginity to Chuck when they were young and she has a lot of trash on Serena.) So, she has a past with Chuck and Serena already.
