‘The Hills’: Audrina slips backward -- and so does the show

Audrina, who had shown so much backbone in the beginning of the season, took a pretty major step back during last night’s episode of ‘The Hills.’

It was probably inevitable. The signs were there last week. Justin Bobby, who I’m sure would rather be written off the show than be in an exclusive relationship, threatened to get with as many girls as possible during his weekend in Cabo San Lucas with the boys and sometimes-appendage Audrina. He had recently discovered that she had tried dating a newer, nicer guy and said he wasn’t jealous. So much for that. Audrina rewarded his comment with a kiss. Oy.

If he were Lo, things might be different. Unfortunately, his Brandon Walsh-esque ‘do (as another ‘Hills’ recapper nailed it) proved too powerful for Audrina to resist over the weekend. Especially since new guy Corey wound up unable to make the Cabo trip. She didn’t give in, but she spent the entire episode in mourning, cursing Justin Bobby and wishing that he’d leave behind the posturing (because did we see him get any last night? No. Of course not.) and commit to her.

While Frankie, Brody and Strikingly Handsom Doug reveled in the single life, Lauren returned to her pre-Spencer role as the broken record of reason, encouraging Audrina to cut JB out of her life and start fresh with Corey. Viewers who watched last week’s ‘The Hills: After Show’ already know that’s a DOA proposition.

Meanwhile in LA, Stephanie, who may be on the outs with Lauren after her misstep with Strinkingly Handsome Doug, and her new boyfriend Cameron, who appears out of nowhere, went on a date with Spencer and Heidi. ShePratt and her man show up 40 minutes late and in retaliation Spencer made every attempt to embarrass his dear sis.

All of which resulted in one extra boring episode of ‘The Hills.’

Thoughts? Anyone dare disagree that something worth watching happened last night? Did the sight of Strikingly Handsome Doug ushering in 18 bikini-clad women as male bait trigger anyone else’s upchuck reflex? Please, sound off.
