Going into tonight’s performances, we knew that Misty May-Treanor had been injured. Would the show reveal early on what had happened? Of course not! If there’s one thing ‘DWTS’ specializes in, it’s drawing out the drama. I waited for the answer so you don’t have to: Misty ruptured her Achilles tendon. Yeah, that’s no good, particularly for someone who earns her money as an athlete. I mean, pretty much anyone else on the show could have done this and not had it so directly affect his or her job, but Misty is still in the prime of her athletic career, though she says she was planning to take some time off next year anyway. Needless to say, she’s out of competition. She’s having surgery on Tuesday, and I hope her recovery is both speedy and complete.

In terms of performances, Brooke Burke and Derek Hough survived some behind-the-scenes interpersonal strife to earn the first 10 and best overall score (28/30) of the season so far, and Cloris Leachman and Corky Ballas danced a jive, the likes of which has never before been seen on television. Or anywhere else, including my own ‘DWTS’-related anxiety dreams. Cloris and Corky once again find themselves in last place, with 16/30.

I’ll post a full wrap-up on Tuesday. In the meantime, feel free to weigh in with your impressions and predictions.

Finally, FYI, the presidential debate will not conflict with the show on Tuesday -- check your local listings regarding whether the debate will air before or after ‘DWTS.’
