After having its first season cut short by the writers strike and undergoing a change in show runners, ABC’s “Dirty Sexy Money” has a new focus this season.

“The show is now a musical,” joked creator and executive producer Craig Wright.

Producers promised that viewers who love the antics of the Darling family will enjoy the second season even more. Despite the sprawling cast –- which now includes Lucy Liu in a new role -- Nick George’s struggle to remain loyal to the Darling family without compromising his principles is more central than ever to the narrative, Wright said.

“That is really the story of the season,” Wright said.

Peter Krause, who plays the strait-laced family consigliere, said he was initially “leery of the soap opera of ‘Dirty Sexy Money.’ ”

But the actor said that as time went on, he started telling Wright that “it needs to be dirtier, it needs to be sexier.’

‘I think we need to see Nick give in to some more temptation,’ Krause added. ‘There’s going to be a few times when he makes choice in a direction where it makes him a little dirtier, and it’s going to cost.’

‘We’re taking Peter’s advice,’ Wright chimed in.

‘We’re making this a glitzy, glossy, messy, dirty, sexy soap opera this year,’ he added. “We’re sort of taking off the gloves and going for it.’

Well, then!

The ultimate sign of that, the writer said, is the addition of Liu, who came to the show after expressing her love for the series to ABC Entertainment President Stephen McPherson.

Little was revealed today about her character, Nola Lyons, except that Liu said she hopes to be part of a romantic story line.

‘I think I’ll be paired with everyone who’s up here, including the women,’ she deadpanned.
