'So You Think You Can Dance': Your top 10 are revealed

July 10, 2008 | 10:00 pm

Sytycdjudges "Oh great," is what Thayne Jasperson must have thought when he saw that he'd be in the bottom three guys with Twitch Boss and Will Wingfield. Thayne's a great dancer, certainly, but there was no way that he'd be sent home after those previous two, who are not only fan and judge favorites but who clearly would be missed in the "So You Think You Can Dance" tour (especially after both of their amazing solos).

You know who else will be missed on the tour? Comfort Fedoke.  If anything, I thought that if the judges were having a hard time deciding whether she or Jessica King should be sent home, they'd consider who would more completely round out the top 10 dancers who would make up the tour.  Nigel was right: Comfort pulled out her best solo performance tonight, and while Jessica's was good, I didn't get a sense of who she was, really, which is something I think Comfort has had over her this whole season.  Jessica must feel a bit the way Kristy Lee Cook did on "American Idol": that she's around for a limited time only. Tonight Mary Murphy promised that she would do everything she could to keep Jessica and Will from being eliminated (which seemed a little unfair), but Jessica will no longer have the safety net of being paired with St. Will.

I'm going to miss hearing Comfort's name mentioned.  Of the more unusual first names of the season, hers always brought a sense of, oh, I don't know what the word is.  Some sense of solace, or safety, or soothing, or something.  It's on the tip of my tongue.

What I won't miss is getting Katy Perry's song out of my head. I only just realized that her "I Kissed a Girl" is different from the 1995 version by Jill Sobule but after hearing it twice in real life, I've been hearing it in my head nonstop, and it makes me want to punch a girl.

Hey "SYTYCD" fans: Stay tuned next week for a special live chat on Thursday afternoon: details to follow. I know that I'd like to ask fellow Show Tracker Stephanie Lysaght a) who made the shoes that Cat Deeley was wearing tonight and b) if she can steal them for me.

Great work again, Claire!

1) Cat Deeley's shoes were terrifyingly high and unbelievable. The drama of watching her take the stairs up the stage was far higher than which man would be eliminated.

2) Is your chat on Friday afternoon? Is there a link to a transcript if I can't get there live?

3) I don't care about Comfort. She brought something different because she was a hip-hop dancer, but there really wasn't anything that compelling about her hip-hop numbers--especially when compared to fantastic solos by Gev and Twitch in recent weeks.

4) Jessica is kind of annoying to me because she shows up in all of the films of eliminated contestants. The show must have thought she would be a much bigger star than she's turned out to be.

5) The Alvin Ailey dancers were totally amazing, but they somehow managed to steal my physique, and I want it back.

6) Jessica King remains the bravest Reality Show contestant ever. It just kills me when Nigel says something like (to Thayne) "This was a night when we would have preferred to eliminate two girls and keep all three of you."

7) I like it when Mia promises people jobs while their still on the show. When they cut to Thayne's parents, you could see them both like, "Well, I guess he's already got a job."

Thanks Kerouac! I believe the chat will be on Thursday afternoon but we'll post more specifics next week.

Those dancers were amazing last night. I can't imagine what it's like to be so muscular and yet so lithe.

I'm kind of glad Thayne is gone. Nothing against him personally but I get scared when someone smiles and I can see every one of their teeth.

Was it me? Or was Katy Perry singing off key?

I do not think it was you, c. It didn't sound great last night and it sounds worse on repeat:

Claire, my wife and I agree with your exasperation. In your honor, I will sing it in my head as "I punched a girl, and I liked it!" from now on, which makes me sound like a sadistic misogynist, but its only in my head....

I look forward to the chat thingy. I only accidentally chanced upon that one you did a few weeks ago and, since I was at work, I couldn't really keep up with it.
I'll try harder this time...
