Destination ‘So You Think You Can Dance’: Nigel Lythgoe dishes the dirt
“It still doesn’t look to me like any of these bottom three couples have got a following that’s gonna pick up the phone and vote for them. Whatever they do at the moment, it doesn’t appear as though they’re gonna get through.”
Lythgoe held nothing back when it came to the shortcomings of Chris’ solo:
“I felt that Chris didn’t finish anything tonight. His arm would get to there, and he’d move on. He’s a big lad, and he should finish moves off. He was trying to do so much within that 30 seconds. Sometimes you don’t have to do anything in 30 seconds. You could do four steps and we’d just go, ‘Wow.’ I think he did 400 steps. You become desperate in that situation. And I think that desperation showed a little bit.”
Chris’ personality, however, got a glowing review from Lythgoe:
“I’ve gotta say, I’ve never worked with anyone so lovely as that lad. I mean, he really was a nice kid.”
The best solo of the evening:
“Without question, Matt. It doesn’t surprise me because I think he’s probably the best technician.”
On eliminated contestant Chelsea Traille:
"The personality is outstanding. Her personality is just beautiful. She’s gonna be a loss to the company with her personality."
On hip-hop queen Comfort Fedoke:
“We love Comfort. We think Comfort can evolve. And we’re hoping she will.”
On struggling contestant Kourtni Lind:
“I’m not knocked out with what she’s doing at the moment. There’s something missing. Which is obviously why she’s in the bottom three couples every week.
On newly formed couple Comfort and Thayne:
“I cant wait to see that one! It's gonna be very interesting.”
Yes, it will!
(Side note: I was pretty peeved last week when I noticed that the queen of scream was staring at her desk –- instead of at the stage –- during the solos. Well, Lythgoe set me straight. There are TV monitors imbedded in the judges’ table.)
