'Hell's Kitchen': Yay! Corey goes home!

07:28 AM PT, Jun 25 2008

Before I celebrate Corey's departure, I just have to ask: If you were going to be on "Hell's Kitchen," don't you think you'd start your prep work by watching seasons past? How is it that Corey and Petrozza were caught flatfooted by the twist in this week's tasting challenge, and then Petrozza and Christina acted shocked -- shocked! -- when the banners fell from the rafters, signifying the final challenge.

Hellooooo!!!! That's how it's done in "Hell's Kitchen."

Now let's get to the moment I've all been waiting for: Corey was sent packing. I know I've been hating on her for several weeks, so let me give her some props by saying that she did exhibit some leadership skills and appears to have some cooking talent. That's about all I can muster for someone who has spent the season talking out of both sides of her mouth.

And now, start placing your bets.

Who's it going to be? Christina? She appears to have a gifted palate  -- she's won challenge after challenge. And she appears to have a creative gift that perhaps makes up for the leadership skills she lacks. But can she command a kitchen with that high-pitched voice? Perhaps that's where Petrozza has an edge. That quiet, weird Zen state that he seems to fall into when he's doing his camera asides suggests someone who can be calm and steady in the face of a storm.

Clearly, though, they will both need more time at the Gordon Ramsay Management School, where the motto is: When in doubt, throw a plate.

Please refrain from using the words "talent" and "creative" when referring to contestants on this show.

I Am Glad That Corey is Gone She WAS Twofaced the WHOLE show she was a hater

Corey sealed her fate very early on when she attempted to "game" Ramsay with her elimination choices. If there's one thing that working for Gordon Ramsay is all about, it's character. Obviously, one has to be good, but in the "real" world Ramsay will go the extra mile and then some for those who have character and put out the supreme effort he demands. In the end, if you don't have talent, he'll cut you loose...but he's out to help people.

The moment Gordon said "...based on your total performance..." I knew he was going to do the right thing and get rid of Corey since this was clearly a "subjective" choice.

Petrozza moving forward was a given since he's displayed that he's got enough character for three people.

I expect Christina to be the winner, though, especially given the reality that the position has been "re-named" to Senior Sous Chef and I don't believe that would have been required if Petrozza was the winner.
