Greatest American Dog,’ CBS’s new competitive reality series debuting on July 10 and starring that domesticated subspecies of the wolf and their human slaves, has its work cut out for it.

What dog owner anywhere would ever admit the superiority of another dog? (You’re the best American dog, Fuzby Bear. I’ll be home soon.) After the standard reality show ‘nationwide search’ is conducted the chosen dozen will be subjected to different tasks and competitions. These segments will undoubtedly leave us viewers at home asking who’s more badly behaved, the dogs or their owners?

Viewer Schadenfreude takes hold each week when ill-tempered losers get sent to ‘the doghouse.’ Eventually a winning team takes home $250,000 on the show finale. Meantime, anyone who has a weakness for dogs in kid’s clothes or dogs on the dance floor should tune in. Anyone who thinks dogs are better off in the back of a flatbed truck or working a herd out on the back forty might want to look elsewhere.

See the video below for a preview and vote. Do you think ‘Greatest American Dog’ can help get you through a long summer when gas prices are so high it pays to stay home on the couch? (If you’re couch-bound this summer, take a spin through our Summer TV Preview for some additional options.)
