'America's Next Top Model': Whitney, Fatima or Anya?
The finale of Cycle 10 of "America's Next Top Model" airs tonight, with Whitney, Fatima and Anya vying for the coveted title. Each girl brings her own strengths to the table: The judges love Whitney's face, and she's determined to break barriers and become the first plus-sized ANTM. The judges also see "model" when they look at Fatima, but her attitude has gotten her in trouble with the judges and her cast-mates (although Tyra Banks does love a good sob story, which Fatima does have). Anya is remarkably drama-free AND has performed strongly as a model during the competition ... will her lack of major obstacle to overcome be her downfall?
Who do you think will win, and why?
Stay tuned for an interview with the winner this Friday!
-- Claire Zulkey

I am very disappointed they chose Whitney. She is beautiful, but so fake. Her smile and personality belong on a beauty pageant. ANTM use to be edgier, but now with this choice they are too commercial. Usually when you look at a model you want to be like her or buy what she is wearing. I have to say I would never buy what Whitney wears. Her beauty is only superficial. I think I am done watching the show.

Whitney should win. I love the way she looks. She looks more the average women than the other women. She sets a great example for all young girls. You don't have to be a toothpick to be pretty. I think that is a better message to send out to our youth.

I am quite happy that Whitney won. The other models, yes, were beautiful.... from day 1 I loved Whitney and Fatimah. Whitney did out shine the rest of the models. Congrats Whitney!!! See you on the next Dolce & Gabbana Ad ..;o)

I am so excited that Whitney won! I liked her from the beginning and have been rooting for her all along. She is beautiful, and even tho she seems fake at times, and beauty-pageant-like, she had a better head on her shoulders than the other 2 and could carry herself well. Congrats Whitney!! we are excited that a plus size model finally gets a chance!!

I found Whitney being the winner VERY dissappointing. ANTM is never looked at as fake! The only thing she has ever done right was perform at the Versace Show. Anya performed poorly at the runway but i guess her overall consistant performance was not good enough! Anya was never identified as Fake! ANTM used to look at the behavioral patterns and attitudes..wat happened? Well done Whitney, fake models in personality actually Win.

Fatima should have won. The Girl is gorgeous. She is going to have a modeling career regardless. The finale should have been between Anya and Fatima. I believe that since this AMERICA's Next Top Model, then the prize should've gone to Anya (well we all know what happened with Fatima's passport situation.) Although, I LOVE Fatima, it only seemed fair to have a spokesperson that does have all the red tape to travel in and out of the country. So, I'll definitely approve of the winner being Anya.
Now... Whitney on the other hand.... Every season Tyra talks about these girls being "high fashion model", but when have you seen one of these ladies gracing the pages of Vogue or Elle Magazine? (Don't worry... I'll wait.) You haven't? Good, because neither have I. The winner of this competition gets the grand prize of gracing a cover of a magazine that they haven't read in 5-7 years (if at all). The winner is on the cover of a magazine with a lollipop in their mouth with headlines surrounding their "child-like" glory about the latest teen pop star, American Idol, and High School Musical apperances. So, these girls go through all this to be on Seventeen and that's it? Dolce and Gabbana, Prada, etc. do not want spokepersons, they want models. Tyra is looking for promotions crew to promote her and Bankable productions... and she's doing a damn good job. Tyra could care less if these girl never have another photo shoot for the rest of their lives, this is simply a means to market her sorry television talk show and use these girls as marketing tools. Everytime someone sees the cycle winners they are going to associate them with ANTM , then Tyra Banks- which is ideally the show' s mission.
Adrian was so honest that Tyra did nothing for her. Tyra left her high and dry. Every other winner is so afraid to speak out about the lack of support and guidance Tyra provides AFTER the show. This season was a flop and so will the next. I don't understand why they chose Whitney. What designer makes clothes that big for the runway? (I'll wait). No one does. So she has already limited her career unless she calls Jenny and hits the treadmill quickly. In no means, am I saying that the industry is right in their choice of women, but that is the preference of these designers. Even if Tyra's mission is to change the industry perception of beauty, why would you chose someone who looks like a clash of Marilyn Monroe and Anna Nicole Smith- two very recognizable sex symbols? Maybe she will get her on the cover of Playboy or something because that is where she belongs. There is nothing "high fashion" about Whitney. The only thing high for this industry is her weight. And the only people high in room during the finale were the judges fer picking her over Anya.
Get real people. This isn't a show about modeling, it needs to be "America's Next Top ROLE Model" and that would make more sense of the show's intent.
Thanks for reading me long winded response. LOL

Anya and Fatima are lucky not to have won, because they will be less likely to have to carry around the joke of a title "America's Next Top Model," and might actually have some success in modeling.
Don't get me wrong, I love watching the show. I love the photography and love to see the creativity that goes into the photo shoots. But as the previous poster said, this show is not about who will actually go on to become a real model! Sorry, Whitney.

i'm also very disappointed that they chose Whitney. When she'd been in the bottom two and not gone home twice in a row, i started to worry that Tyra Banks was determined to have a plus-size winner, and that must be the case.. they don't usually allow a "mean girl" to win the competition; i'm incredibly disappointed that they did this time. If Whitney had taken excellent pictures or had a fantastic runway walk, i would have understood, but both were weak, especially compared to Anya (or Fatima, or Claire, or even Dominique). This was the last season of the show for me; i've known it wasn't REALLY about modeling for some time, but this went overboard. Good luck wishes to Whitney - her "mission" to change the way the modeling industry represents women (never bought it, did she ever mean it? so fake) is a nice idea.. maybe she'll start to understand it herself and truly behave like a role model.

I have one word to describe Whitney SNOB!

I really wish the women in this thread could hear what they are saying. Are we seriously so clueless that we feel the need to get offended at plus size models for daring to upset the poor wittle modeling industry? Uncle Tom himself couldn't have done better. Fatima was a complete fake. i hated her, she thought she was better than the othergirls but she's not. You might be wondering why im saying this and why i hate her. i am a somali girl and a muslim. she is a refugee and somali. Her backgroung and religion is islam. And foor her to think that she can be ANTM is a disgrace. She left somali and came to america leaving her parents behind. Her parents probably dont know what she is doing.
And im soooooooo happy she didnt win! I bet someone told her she looks like Iman so she wanted to become a model. She is a complete disgrace as well as Imam(who r both somali). And in onme of the shots where she said she has never been with a man so she didnt know how to act it was cause she is muslim and her religion is islam. she should feel ashamed of herself. Cause the thought of her made me sick.

No offense Whitney, but you're kind of a slob, and certainly not America's Next Top Model. I thought you were fake, rude, and obnoxious, if my previous comments didn't make my position clear, I plain old don't like you. Fatima and Anya were much better than you, much prettier than you, and much much much MUCH more likely to get booked than you.
So plod that big rear end of yours down the road.

I think all yall are jealous haters. Whitney was the best period. Anaya looked a hot mess coming down that runway and Whitney was on fire. She is only a size 10 and there is nothing wrong with her body and she is very confident.
The REAL women are taking over and the all the skinny hoes need to move out the way!!!
Posted by: Natasha | May 15, 2008 at 01:50 PM
Really, folks, when did a size 10 constitute "Plus Size". No wonder the models are getting thinner and thinner! I thought Whitney was the most beautiful and looked like a model from day 1 ....CONGRATS, Whitney, you deserve to be the winner.

dang! I didn't know so many people thought whitney was fake! I didn't think she was fake, but I was annoyed with her, as I was with fatima, because she always seemed to be in the middle or a part of some kind of confrontation, and they were all ones that could have been avoided. I really wanted anya to win, but it's cool that ANTM finally has a full figured girl representing them. And to comment on Charmaine's remark about ANTM not taking people's attitudes into consideration anymore, I think now those kind of people are just smarter and don't reveal their real selves to the judges. and Tyra doesn't know how they act in the house so how they present themselves in front of her while on panel is all ahe has to go by. and to comment on the remark made by jackie about the girls only getting on the covers of Seventeen and that's it, in the first place that's what tyra wants: to get models back on the covers of ANY and ALL magazines, like they used to be. FYI, tyra was actually on the cover of seventeen herself when she was 24, so i don't think she looks at it as a disgrace for these girls to be on the cover of seventeen when they're the same age (most of them are younger!!!) as she was when she was on the coverof that same magazine herself. In the second place, i don't know how driven or focused Adrian Curry is, so i probably wouldn't take anything negative she has to say about Tyra seriously. And FYI again, we should all know for a fact that she does keep in contact with at least one of the winners, Dani of season six, becuase she went specifically to Tyra for guidance on the issue of losing weight as requested by her modeling agency.
P.S. Thank you porter for your comment. When I first started writing my response, i hadn't read all the other ones. i was going back and forth to respond to each. Seriously, WHAT is so bad about Whitney winning?! like i already said, i was rooting for anya, but I'm not UPSET over the fact that Whitney won. and also to respond to the comment made by Jackie once again about Whitney limiting herself, why don't we just completely eliminate plus-size modeling in genereal since there are apparently absolutely NO opportunity for them whatsoever? If she wants to work, and if tyra had enough faith that this girl was talented enough to take the cut-throat fashion industry by storm, she will, bottom line!

I am sooo happy that Whitney won! She was not a snob or fake at all. She just has a very bubbley personality. How many times did they show clips of Whitney making fun of herself or laughing at herself. Just because she shows a lot of self-confidence and has a big personality doesn't mean she is rude or mean. She was my pick from the first episode, not becaus she is plus-sized, but because I could relate to her. And what's wrong with CoverGirl? Hello, they have adds everywhere. And Whitney will have a pic in Time Square. So she never gets hired by "top" fashion designers for runway shows...who cares? She will have a great career as a spokes model, commerical actress, and print model. She is sexy as hell and damn do I wish I had those curves.
So to those haters out there- get over yourself, stop being jealous, and just be happy for girl who won a competition she really tried her hardest at.
and ps-- I haven't bought Seventeen in about 7 years, but I am going to buy July's issue, just for Whitney.

Estoy muy descepcionada con el final de America Next Top Model. What happen with Anya or Fatima? Anya is so fashion, beautiful and sweet, she is a Model. Fatima is a beautiful girl too. But, I would like to know what happen with Tyra. Whitney se ve demasiado sensual, like a porno artist. She is beautiful, but, doesn't look like a model.
Posted by: Arelis | May 15, 2008 at 02:50 PM
I am soooo glad that Whiteny won! It's about time a NORMAL sized girl was recognized for her beauty. Neither Fatima nor Anya were 'model worthy'. Good job Whitney!! I don't think she is fake... I think she is genuine. She's from Florida... any Southern state is known for their "beauty pagent" type woman. ;o)
WAY TO GO WHITNEY!!! A Deserved WIN!

I don't see why there is so much hate against Whitney? First of all, this is a reality tv show so we cannot gauge if Whitney is phony or not. Secondly, it's about time for Tyra to break the homogeneity of the fashion industry. Real models? What is a real model? We have been preconditioned by this society to think that skinny is beautiful (and in order to be a model, you must be skinny). Well, it's time for a change! I am happy that Tyra is taking the initiative to finally break the nuances of the fashion industry. This is the era of change! We can see this in politics as we have Obama and Hillary running. America is finally being mobilized in a positive way, and I'm hoping the same mobility happens in the fashion industry. Stop hating on Whitney! She is beautiful, rocked the runway, and has a vivacious personality.

I am so happy Whitney won, I picked her from the beginning. She was the only girl with any type of personality at all! Whitney is gorgeous, smart, funny and sexy. I do not understand anyone saying she is fake, she was the least fake one in my opinion. What was fake, her trying to do her best? Her excitement? Her natural sparkle? And yea, she is bigger than the other girls but in no way do I consider her plus size, she looks totally normal to me. Just cause she is next to a bunch of anorexic looking bones, she is plus size? Thats stupid. For the last 2 years, the winners were horrible. Jazzline looks like a crack addicted transvestite, and Salisha, or whatever her name is, not only can't speak, but the bags under her eyes are huge, and that dutch boy haircut is ridiculous. This season, I thought the girls were more hideous than usual. Except for Whitney and Katarjena. Anya was ok, but when she spoke I wanted to jam pencils in my ears. What was that? Baby talk? Unreal. And Fatima, she was nasty and thought she was better than everyone else. Im sorry, she looked like a Q-tip, a huge head on a stick. I saw nothing attractive about her at all. I think Whitney will be a wonderful ANTM. YOU GO WHITNEY!!!
