'The Hills': With friends like these ...

Audrina may not be the sharpest tool, but does she really need a “friend” like Lauren?

Lauren Lauren may get to narrate “The Hills,” but I think I speak for everyone when I say the series has turned on our fair narrator, who has reverted to a sniffling, green-eyed high schooler this season. (In fact, we’re going back to calling her by her high school nickname, LC, from now on.)

So without further ado, an open letter to LC …

LC, It’s time to move on. Heidi has. (And what kind of world are we living in when Heidi is the grown-up one?) We’re over LC vs. Heidi.

How is it fair for you, LC, to befriend Stephanie, sister of your sworn enemy Spencer, who once confronted you in a nightclub in defense of her brother, but Audrina can’t reunite with Heidi? I smell a hypocrite in these hills.

What’s worse, it seems as though everyone else around you is evolving. Heidi is Ms. Female Empowerment. Stephanie, our favorite “Hills” informant, sailed her olive branch over to you while letting Spencer crash in her apartment. Whitney matriculated from Teen Vogue (albeit to more grunt work). Brody got himself a new steady. Spencer’s giving Heidi her space (for the most part). Even Justin -- “It’s time to get my priorities straight” -- Bobby has given up the belching, started showering and has gotten a new ’do.

They all make you rather dull in your 24-hour Heidi hate. Not just dull, but downright bratty. I’m pretty sure I wasn’t the only viewer who threw her pillow (or, ya know, something) at her TV set when you started moaning -- “Will you kidnap me please?” “Oh my god, I need to leave this table immediately,” -- after Heidi squeezed into your table at Goa.

After Audrina caught up with Justin Bobby on a friend-date, your first question to her was “Did he burp in your face?” Not very friend-like. You followed that up with, of course, “Seems like you and Heidi are friendly again.” Yikes.

And now that Heidi has soiled your pad by hanging with Audrina in it for a few moments last week, you want to move out? Into a house? Oh sure, you say you’re bored by your West Hollywood apartment. And yes, you did get that spanking new job as model-herder for People’s Revolution. (But seriously, Mama and Papa Conrad, you're too kind.)

Why is poor Audrina in your cross hairs? Sure, you asked her to move in with you and Lo, but not before you harped all over her “dirty” boyfriends behind her back and told Lo how much fun it would be to continue doing so when you both are her roommates.

Looks like someone other than Justin Bobby needs to get their priorities straight.

I understand where this article is coming from but to comment on last nights episode when they were at GOA; Lauren had no problem with Heidi sitting at the table until she started talking about Lauren as if she wasn't sitting there. I think anyone can agree with me when I say that it is an uncomfortable situation an a bit immature on Heidi's part. Also, if you remember Lauren did ask Audrina how Justin was doing and did not give her a hard time about it. I am a fan of Audrina but I Ithink because she is hesitant about the situation from Heidi to Justin she may be taking things differently from Lauren then they are intended, Right fully so she is a day to day, step by step kind of person. My opinion about Heidi this season is that she has been a bit full of herself and hopefully she will realize that lauren does not say anything bad or at all about her and is truely looking for some one to own up to the horrible things that were done to her. Once and a life time thing but I actually like how spencer is treating Heidi, she asked for space and he is giving it her. He did nothing wrong going out and talking to friends, she is dioing the same but you don't see him running up and making a scene.

Kryan I AGREE!

Thanks God someone has finally called it like it is. LC, as it were, needs to grow up. How inevitably twee and bitter shes become. I'm glad the world is finally noticing our heroine isn't a heroine at all - but rather a spoiled, detached and delusional brat who buys her own press. I wish her everything she deserves.

Get a life, are you for real? This is scripted dramz, and your a reporter? What are you trying to report? Guess what there is a war going on.. oops or were you watching mtv too much to get that. Wake up and smell reality, get a clue, and most of all watch a little cnn.

Seriously Kryan, you also need some growing up to do, unless you are living under a rock at the bottom of the ocean, you know fully well that this show, much like the main character's (LAUREN) personality is completely FAKE.... .get a clue, this is not HS anymore and this girl yes GIRL needs to grow up and face the facts that her sheltered life will not be so sweet once the camera's stop rolling, these girls are immature brats who have no clue as to anything that goes on beyond their OLD and NEW FAKE NOSES!

I do agree that Lauren needs to be a bit more mature. But I do think she is handling Audrina and Heidi's friendship quite well...at least for the most part. Heidi was the one who was talking about Lauren as if she was not even there...Now tell me what mature person does that....someone who wants to forget everything that happened and be friends again, like Heidi would like to??? Heidi seems to be on a very high horse right now.... a horse that will soon be forgotten. Everything about her is superficial....her personality, her hair, her "clothing line", her boyfriend, her so called music career, and lets not forget her breasts. Please...enough is certainly enough. Heidi..GET OVER YOURSELF DEAR. The HIlls will certainly be a success with or without you.

Heidi spread a false rumor about Lauren that flooded America, poor Lauren could you imagine if someone did that to you? I 100% understand why Lauren doesn't want to be friends with Heidi, and she should be friends with Stephanie.......Stephanie said she was sorry to Lauren for yelling at her, and Lauren was grown-up enough to forgive which says a lot. I know Heidi has tried to reach out to Lauren but like I said I WOULD NEVER EVER forgive someone who spread a rumor like that. And even Brody said on MTV that Heidi and Spencer spread that rumor.

I think Lauren is hurt that Audrina is allowing Heidi to come back into her life. I would be hurt to if I was Lauren I expect my friends to stand behind me and right now Audrina isn't standing behind her. I think Lauren looked really really hurt on mondays episode.

I totally disagree with this article too like the first person who commented...Lauren is by no means a "high schooler". I think she definitely takes the high road by knowing what she likes and doesn't like. She stays away from Heidi and doesn't allow her hatred for Heidi to affect her like. I actually think it was admirable for her to be friends with Stephanie in the midst of all the other drama.

I think Heidi should make new friends instead of turning back to the old ones. Her problem is that now without Spencer, she doesn't have anywhere to go but to try to be friends again with the old crew.

An open letter to those who post comments...

I totally punched my mac a few hours ago when I saw the episode on mtv.com.

When are Audrina and all the rest leaving Lauren behind??? like they left Kristin Cavallari behind after Laguna Beach!

Dump annoying Lauren already MTV!!

Okay so i was thinking that too when watching the show. I feel like she needs to move on and also stop trying to tell her friends how to live their lives. If Audrina wants to hook up with Justin, then let her.
the whole moving out thing, i did not feel like she wanted Audrina to move in, it was a "i feel bad offer", and also i am not sure Audrina herself wanted to

Are you serious? Yes i think you were the only one that hates lauren. And if you dont like the show change the channel. Have you checked ratings for the hills lately? And have you read the eye witness reports on how Heidi and Spencer fake ALL there fights? Even when he showed up in colorado she was acting and you can tell more then ever now. Shes always making that pouty face and you can see how she puts her lipgloss way over her nautrual lip line GROSS!! Hoe ever lauren acts its real and thats all that matters. Lauren will always be the star of the show so every one should just shut up and get used to it.

Totally agree with everything about the article. So the Hills is scripted, we all know that, but lauren still needs to grow up. on the plus side i do love her clothes. lets see more of audrina and whitney on the show!

You guyz watch too much Hills...

This article was not written at a better time.
I am not an active fan of The Hills but from what I have seen, all the other cast mates HAVE moved on.
I also love how the article was written! I usually skim articles, just grabbing the meat of the subject. However, this bash on Lauren (oops, LC) entertained me for a good minute. The personable and evidentiary support this article provided made this article a definite good read. Well done!

Holy Crap Denise!!!!
How old are you to be writing stories like this when there are far more interesting and serious things happening around the world. But then again you are with the Los Angeles Times, so I guess keep up the crap you write about.

I agree its time to GROW UP! Get over it and move on

I totally agree with this!!! LAUREN needs to grow up!!! might I add she is LAME

How come Lauren thinks it is necessary to give Audrina a hard time for reconnecting with Justin Bobby? Audrina has to walk around on egg shells and defend her actions constantly. Worse, the previews show that Lauren is reconnecting with Stephen Colletti, and shocked that Lo was giving HER a hard time. Is doesn't feel good, Lauren, to have pestering friends... does it?
