The death of 'Jezebel James'

March 24, 2008 |  6:34 pm

Fox’s “The Return of Jezebel James” will in fact not return.

The network has canceled the low-rated comedy from “Gilmore Girls” creator Amy Sherman-Palladino after two airings. The series, which starred Parker Posey and Lauren Ambrose as sisters, had its final broadcast last Friday and will be replaced by repeats of “Bones."

I didn't get a chance to catch this show, and I know the critics weren't thrilled, but I'm a huge Parker Posey fan. My guess is she could have turned it around, if they got more than two weeks.

Isn't this crazy? Any show deserves more than 2 episodes to prove itself. Lots of us have actual lives, so may not be able to view a new show on its network's timetable.

Cheers, Hill Street Blues, SEINFELD for gawds sake, took quite a while to get going. These shows, which are now sort of legendary, would have folded given the new "must love immediatly" rule.

Just makes me sad.

I wanted to like this show because I love Parker, but there wasn't a kernel of truth to be found anywhere so nothing about the women or their relationship really worked. Didn't anyone see this before it aired? Maybe offer some notes? How do people in TV development keep their jobs?

The show was pretty terrible. I hoped for much better since I am a Lauren Ambrose fan. It was really contrived and boring.

There is a very important lesson to be learned with this cancellation... if you are going to have a SITCOM, then make sure the script has both a SITUATION and some COMEDY.

I did see both episodes - call it a tax for loving The Gilmore Girls - and neither show had either of those elements in it. A spastic delivery from Ms. Posey cannot compensate for the lack of a clever line in the script.

As for Ms. (well, Mrs.) Ambrose... I've had a crush on her for years but seeing her in this show certainly helped me get over the unrequited feelings.

I went to MyFoxChicago.com and watched all 2 of them there. Not really dull, but the storyline I felt was predictable. Parker Posey was good, but not given enough time to show she was Lorelei from Gilmore Girls just younger.

i understand canceling 'Caveman' or whatever that show was after 2 episodes.... but that seems really, really premature... can't they get 8-10 episodes in before axing everyone? Hollywood is unoriginal and TV is just plain afraid...
