NBC latches on to 'quarterlife'
NBC Universal has picked up the much-heralded Web-only series "quarterlife" and will begin airing it in full episodes in mid-season, the network confirmed late today. Only three eight-minute episodes of the drama about friends in their 20s have run so far, but the money, ambition and Hollywood pedigrees behind the show quickly brought the effort loads of attention and accolades as perhaps the best Net serial to date.
In an unusual deal, Emmy-winning creators Marshall Herskovitz and Edward Zwick, best known for their shows "My So-Called Life" and "thirtysomething," will continue to own and control "quarterlife" as it moves to television.
The shortened episodes will continue to run on quarterlife.com and will be on MySpace.com for the first 36 mini-episodes.

There's no doubt that the web is the next frontier. It opens everything to everybody. Small and large alike have a chance at the audience. No longer do the big boys control everything. Now, they have to compete with everyone.
