'Damages': One point for Ellen, finally!

08:58 AM PT, Sep 12 2007

Damages275 Early on in the run of "Damages," Patty gave her protege, Ellen, a level-headed stare and told her to "trust no one." (No, she isn't an "X-Files" fan.) In Tuesday's episode, however, it finally became clear that Ellen -- as wide-eyed and naive as she sometimes appears -- has taken her advice to heart.

In present-day time, it's revealed that Ellen spent the night at Patty's house after she and David had a fight. Patty -- gone for the weekend -- was the only one who knew she was staying there, which may make her complicit in the attack on Ellen by a mystery man.

After Ellen whacked the attacker, she ran to her apartment, found David dead in the bathtub, then stumbled into police officers outside her building. She's charged with David's murder -- in her horror, she had picked up the murder weapon and left her prints all over it. (Not a "CSI" fan, either, I guess.) She calls in Tom as her attorney and tells him that finding Patty is the key to everything. Tom professes to not know where Patty is.

But it's revealed in the last minutes that Tom is a big, fat liar -- after talking to Ellen, he calls Patty and waves her off the scene so she isn't involved. And -- surprise! -- Ellen's no fool, either, promptly ratting out Tom as being full of it and ordering him tailed to get a lead on Patty.

The flashback wasn't quite as compelling, with Tom and Ellen bickering over office politics, Patty's son returning from kiddie rehab and Gregory holed up in a hotel room courtesy of Ray. Patty subpoenas Gregory to get him to make a deposition in the Frobisher case, but Ray encourages him to make a run for it. What dishy information Gregory knows hasn't yet been revealed, but it must be something good, because he whacks a bodyguard and tries to escape the clutches of all these creepy lawyers and capitalists who have been hounding him. Seems like he's learned to trust no one as well.
