The New Season: Will Whoopi and Sherri bring us a whole new 'View'?

04:29 PM PT, Jul 26 2007

Whoopi_350 After a tumultuous season that saw the abrupt exit of Rosie O’Donnell, ABC’s daytime chatfest “The View” is moving to bring on two new outspoken co-hosts: comic Whoopi Goldberg and performer Sherri Shepherd.

Final negotiations with the duo are underway, and an announcement of their hiring is expected next week, according to a person familiar with the discussions.

ABC declined to comment. “We have nothing to announce right now,” said spokesman Karl Nilsson.

Goldberg, the irreverent comedian and Oscar-winning actress, and Shepherd, a stand-up comic who has appeared in movies like “Beauty Shop,” would bring a strong dose of brash humor to the 10-year-old program, which was buoyed by O’Donnell’s presence last season.

But after O'Donnell boosted viewership with her blunt political remarks, her tenure came to an abrupt halt in May when she had a bitter on-air fight with co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck. O'Donnell exited the program nearly a month before the end of her contract.

That left “The View” with two empty seats -- former co-host Star Jones Reynolds was never permanently replaced after her own rancorous exit in 2006 -- and threatened to stall the show’s ratings gains.

With just Hasselbeck, Joy Behar and Barbara Walters remaining on the all-female panel, executive producer Bill Geddie indicated that he was looking to add at least one African American voice.

"We have, really, two positions open, I think people forget," Geddie said in June. "We got a lot of hiring to do here. So the chances of us hiring two white women ... not very likely.”

Goldberg and Shepherd are both familiar to the “View” audience after having made numerous guest appearances on the program.

O’Donnell was rooting for Goldberg as her replacement, telling readers of her blog this spring that her fellow comic “would rock.”

Known for her acerbic sense of humor, the 51-year-old has had a long career in television, beginning with HBO’s “Comic Relief,” which helped launch a prolific career. Since then, she’s done stints on shows like “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” appeared in numerous TV movies and headlined the short-lived sitcom “Whoopi.”

After spending six years writing and producing Lifetime’s “Strong Medicine,” Goldberg has most recently been hosting a syndicated morning radio show called “Wake Up With Whoopi.”

"She is exactly what the show needs,” said Hollywood publicist Howard Bragman. “She is a beloved brand name; she is outspoken; she has done this before, she is a person of color; she is as far left as Rosie; she lives in New York; and she can kick Elizabeth Hasselbeck’s ass."

Shepherd, 40, has appeared in shows like “The Wedding Bells” and “Less Than Perfect.” Her latest movie, “Who’s Your Caddy,” opens Friday.

Concerning "The View"-the most racist remarks I have ever heard are those by the producer! We need an African-American voice!? In our United States, it doesn't matter what color you are. But of course, the "tolerant" left looks at everything by color. We have to have so many blacks, so many whites, so many Asians, etc. I'm sure Dr. King would be very disappointed as he was preaching for equality, not quotas! In addition, the show already has Joy, Barbara and now Whoopie-3 huge leftists against Elizabeth! Not knowing Shepherd, but being surprised if she is moderate, once again we have Hollywood's "view"-hate George Bush and all Conservatives. No wonder no one watches The View anymore!

From one brainless pig to another, can you say desperate!

Great!!!!I love Whoopi,she's funny and smart .Congrats!!!Cris

I'm confused! The major TV chains are losing viewers every week. Yet when a show comes along that suddenly is popular, that show is often axed on the basis of its content. Does ABC really think this proposed lineup can replace Rosie O'Donnell? I don't. The problem seems to be that the really good TV personalities are intelligent, thus are somewhat independent-minded. Sooner or later they get into a subject where some intelligence is needed, they express themselves intelligently... and they lose their jobs. Don Imus is another example. The TV chains are taking multi-million dollar losses by their interference with their own shows. Why do they do it? Shouldn't they have their eyes on their own bottom lines and not on the lines of their performers? Just askin'.

Whoopi "I had six abortions" Goldberg to be on The View? Just a black Rosie O'Donnell. What a disgusting human being! ABC is going out of their way to keep controversy brewing. It won't be long before her foul mouth causes time delay "bleeps". I won't watch it even out of curiousity. Can't give creedence to a low life like that pig!

I quit watching The View when they brought Rosie on and I will continue to not watch after hearing on Drudge that they are bringing on Whoopi. They continue to go from bad to bad. A real empty show with no redeaming qualities, I think BW has a loser of a show on her hands. Cancel The View!!!

Puke

Personally, I am very glad Whoopi may replace Rosie. When I first heard Rosie was being evicted from the View, I emailed ABC with just that recommendation. However, as a Reagan Democrat, I find fault in labeling Whoopi as "as far left as Rosie". I have listen to several interviews Whoopi has had with so called "right-wing" hosts, and I have always found her to be an intelligent woman with core values. She thinks. She cares. She displays humor. She is not a bully. Whoopi is the Anti-Rosie. Whoopi uses her humor to provoke thought. Rosie uses her tongue to injure. There is no "hate speech" in Whoopi.

What do I have to say about Ms Glodberg replacing Rosie on the View? "Whoopi!"

That is what we need. Another far left liberal scum bag blathering all over the air waves denigrating America and Americans. I for one hopes that Hasselbeck cleans her plow. But you know what will happen. If Hasselbeck gets in one good shot, the network, whoopie and the rest of the leftists will play the race card. Bah-humbug.

Good grief!!! Whoopi is another Rosie with black skin. I do not think it is a good idea and doubt if I will watch anymore. Sheri is ok.

Once again, Hollywood shows it's stripes. They root for Congress to get the Fairness doctrine for talk radio on one hand, while on the other inundating us with the liberal slant and leaving Elizabeth out to dry. Why not bring in some true cerebrals with someone like Meredith Viera there to moderate? Why? Because it's not controversial, and they don't believe that 40% of America who believe in conservative values matters. I will not be tuning in because I'm sick of the "he sucks" and "they suck" messages. I want to hear what is RIGHT with America. I'm sick and tired of these self-absorbed, self-important, divas who think they know it all and speak for us all. Time to go back to reading a paper and learning what's REALLY going on.

Whoopi will add a less agenda ridden view...unlike O'Donnell who is more aligned with her feminist/lesbian views then anyone I know coming out of Hollyweird...

so the purpose of bring Whoopi is to "kick Elisabeth Hasselbeck's ass"? How pathetic a comment is that! Should the View fire Elisabeth and hire Anne Coulter to "kick Whoopi's ass?" How ridiculous that would be as well. Get the point Mr. Bragman?

LMAO @ "beloved brand name."
But seriously, is the objective to have the ugliest women in the history of mankind on some kind of a rotating basis?

Howard Bragman is a fool. Although Whoopi is left wing, she is a very calm, rational debator. She won't get into it with Hasselbeck. I'm a right winger & admire Whoopi. She admits when she's wrong & tries to find middle ground with those on the right. Rosie O'Donnell does nothing of the sort. Bye Rosie, helloooooo Whoopie!

Great addition to the show.

Bevo

I like Whoopie, but am disappointed that your are loading the View with all Left Wingers! Poor Elizabeth, she is too gentle, and no match for the rest of the ladies. They will eat her up! If I were Elizabeth, after the baby is born, I wouldn't return to the View!

It seems Hollywood, TV and the press are loaded with Democrats who lean to the left..... there are no more morals.... anything goes! Take me back to the time when "respect" was the way of life.

What the heck? Have Barbara Walters and Bill Geddie forgotten that the Latino community is the largest minority community in the US, which is almost entirely ignored by the national TV networks? They need to realize that adding two African-American women adds some diversity, but not a whole lot.

It is a relief to know that someone like Whoopi Goldberg will be featured on The View. I had never paid too much attention to the show until I happened to catch a segment and Rosie O'Donnell was speaking. I heard enough to pique my interest and curiosity and was a fan of the show from that time on.
Joy Behar is an asset to the show and I enjoy her comments very much.

When Rosie had her famous altercation with Elizabeth, it caused quite an uproar and finally led to Rosie's leaving the show. I was very sorry to see her go and even her challenging counterpart, Donald Trump, agreed with some of her views!

I wish Rosie success in her future endeavors - and Welcome to Whoopi - who is another candid, interesting persona.

Interesting that Howard Bragman FORGOT to mention that his former PR firm represented Whoopi.....

Only time will tell if that addition of Whoopi is a great thing. Let's just wait and let it play out!

But to speak to the few people who've made comments about 'poor elizabeth' and 'conservative morals' and all that blather.

Elizabeth and Neocons are fair game. The way i see it there are very few 'morals' involved with this type of person. They don't admit their faults and support a very corrupt group of politicians who are completely lacking in morals and ethics. So they and the people who support them are fair game for the pickings.

I'm enjoying this showdown. But hopefully it'll be done with humor!

Who cares about what any of these women have to say???

THE VIEW I started watching again when UGH< R.O'Donnell left the show just when I was starting to enjoy it, I hear that Whoppee Goldberg is replacing her identical character R.O;Donnell ........... SURELY YOU JEST !!!!
I go back to not watching it again !,,,,,,,,,Mazroro

I like how the ignorant back woods right comes out and shows their true colors.

"whoppi is rosie with black skin" What the hell is that supposed to mean are you saying those are the strikes against her? Yeah real mature.

And "no wonder nobody is watching the view anymore" dont be so stupid ratings dont lie.

Whooppi is her own woman and has been for some time. Most of you dont have a clue of what your spouting off about but then again, a conservative never does.

And I love how a bunch of dudes are clucking about the view as if they watch.

good for whoopi. hope she won't lose this assignment for speaking out against this present idiotic nation dividing regime. way to go!!!!!

I have not enjoyed the view since Elizabeth joined. She was not my choice when the co-host search was on. I can not believe that an artist can be so narrow minded.
I did not like how Starr was treated by BW. It is okay not to have a contract renewed but removing her immediately was a disappointment. Her knowledge of law was informative and raised the intelligence of The View.
I wish Joy would be an Italian and a New Yorker. I have heard enough about Nazi this Nazi that she has never talked about Mussolini's activities. I do enjoy Joy's humour and intelligence.
Rosie was just trying to get people to wake up to the crime of war by George Bush. Where are the protesters of this war? Has CNN put people in a coma?
Whoopi will be a great addition to the show.
I like Sherri however I would like a co-host from the Latin community.
I would rather see less of BW on the show as she is only there to mother Elizabeth.

A view for 9 years....

I'm glad I don't watch The View. I won't have to subject myself to that ugly mug every weekday.

I'm glad the show is getting back to what Walters intended it to be, a WIDE range of opinion. They should lose Behar immeditaely, who was only on because she is Walters' cronie. The '50s wanna-be mom (Liz) can stay, after all, Woopi's got to open a can of woop@$$ on someone from time to time!

Unbelievable! Are they completely insane over there at ABC ... or have they been secretly purchased by George Soros and Michael Moore is now running their network? Not only have their newscasts become increasingly more biased and propaganda-laden recently, but to replace one empty-headed, ranting, over-emotional, left wing liberal America-hating Hollywood type with another of a different color is sheer folly. Do they think that Whoopie is beyond criticism (untouchable) because she is black? Who will replace Whoopi after she spews her anti-American extremist propaganda and hate? Al Franken? Cindy Sheehan??? LMAO!

WHOOPIE , ? Couldn't she first go on Oprah and get a MAKE-OVER . .
she generally looks like something the cat drug in ..

The ideal one to replace is Joy Behar. She's obnoxious, condesending, and when you don't have anything to do someday, count how many times she rolls her eyes. She says shes a comic but I've yet to see that demonstrated. And speaking of comics....is that what it takes to be on the View? Enough already, can we just get a coherent speaker with a smig of interest in a fair and balanced conversation and a just plain good sense of humor. I assume BW retains Elizabeth to act as a punching ball for herself and her comedians (?). Why not scour midwest news women or former female athletes. You know there is some real estate between Hollywood & Broadway, Babs. All viewers aren't myopic. It seems lately, the only thing Joy & BW like to talk about is Lindsay, Paris, Hillary and Drudge report topics that are, 'scuse me...I had to yawn, b-o-r-i-n-g.

The scales have been tipped to the LEFT of LEFT..............................

I have been hoping for this duo to be selected. These two are very intelligent and bring both laughter and purpose to The View without being obnoxious. These two are a perfect choice for the entertainment side of the show. Plus, they bring a perfect balance and respect to another point of view.

That horror truly is the ugliest woman alive; a Leftist dream, she brags about having SIX abortions. I would love to know which SIX men could stand to touch her. Or, is that a story to cover for her homosexuality? Oh, that's right, she's a "bi" (IOW, she attacks anything she can get her hands on).

WOW! Whoopi Goldberg! Sherri Shepherd! Give me a break! Get some talent on that show!

Hopefully the view will get canceled. They are not well read on any issue they just keep nagging and harping abut anything petty.
If they do get an issue like Iraq they automatically Bush rant- all the while
being to stupid to see how ignorant they look . if they were in any muslim country they wouldnt have any rights.

Oh ya three or 4 leftists against one of the right persuasion. Sounds about right dont it? What a bunch of clowns.

It cracks me up to read so many nasty things people feel free to make about these women.

I Tivoed several "View"s when Rosie was on because she was just really refreshing. Now that Whoopi is on, I think I'm going to have to go for a Season Pass!

Whoopi is the Grande Dame of comedy in our country and she never fails to make me laugh. And think. Sometimes at the same time.

Elizabeth Hasselbeck is a shrill, contemptuous, vapid soul.

Why are they wasting Whoopi's superior talents on balancing her out? Hasselbeck is just a sad, reality-show reject who cannot even think for herself.

If you thought she looked like a deer in the headlights when Rosie was around, how will she even be able to sit up straight with Whoopi in the room.

We love Whoopi!

Ann "Creature" has never kicked ass. She's a loud mouthed, self absorbed, "I'm right you're wrong" woman with a set a balls that are too small to make her a real man.

Who cares?

I hate the term "african-American. She is black, not african. How stupid. And way to load the show with another radical leftist. Hassellbeck is too nice to argue with angry neolibs and has much more class. I love when neolibs try to tell us conservatives that we have no morals. Neolibs have zero ethics and zero morals. Just look at their favorite radical lib, slick willy. That guy's a rapist but that is ok with neolibs because he believes in abortion and stealing from the rich and giving to the lazy, no good poor people.

LMAO @ "beloved brand name."
But seriously, is the objective to have the ugliest women in the history of mankind on some kind of a rotating basis?

Posted by: Rob | July 26, 2007 at 09:25 PM

But seriously Rob, do you consider yourself a sexist pig or just a jerk! What do looks have to do with being a host? And how many men have you derided for their looks?!

Everytime Whoopi has co-hosted the show, it has been extremely enjoyable! And to Marsha above, the show is supposed to be a cross-section of ages, races, polictical viewpoints, etc. to represent all women in America. I agree, perhaps there should be a latina voice somewhere in the mix, but it was defintiely a "bland" offering for a while there. Sherri Shepherd is great too and I think this will be an awesome dynamic. Forget about poor Elizabeth... Sister Hasselbeck will be fine. She holds her own and I think she will continue to do that and be heard. Give it a chance before you completely condemn everything. BW has the Midas Touch - The View will be fine!

I must say that even though Elisabeth bugs the crap out of me when she runs to defend Bush like he's her biological father or something, I must say that "The View" has no credibility anymore.....PERIOD.

When Meredith and Star left, so did the dignity and intelligence of the show. Barbara Walters never should have hired Rosie...the woman was controversial and annoying...that's why she doesn't have her show or magazine or popularity she once had....Rosie's persona is TOO BIG to sit there with Elisabeth and Joy...maybe Barbara should retire

As much as Whoppi and Sheri are "ok with me", it's not going to bring back the feel of when Star and Meredith were there.....in my opinion, this will be the last season of the show.....

Walters has sold her soul to the Devil and he wants his due. So now we have 2 African Americans instead of a well-balanced dais with a Latin/Hispanic. This show is not in keeping with its original plan to have 5 different women from different backgrounds. They are from different backgrounds, but I would like to see more diversity and have some Caribbean/Latin/Indian blood.

Oh well . . .

I guess when I have my own talk show with 5 women, I 'll get a real diverse dais!!

So I'm reading these Posts and frankly saddened but not surprised to see the "Right Wingers" using foul language to describe Whoopi and Rosie. "Scum bag... disgusting human being... pig..." just to name a few. Nice! Classy! If that's what it means to be "Conservative" then thank you very much but I'll stay on the Left. They sound like children in the playground! And one more thing -- I guess Whoopi has admitted to having some abortions. Oh my!! What a horrible person!! Please. I just shake my head when I hear pro-lifers attack honest and open people who have had to make extremely difficult decisions about their own bodies. One out of every five pregnancies in our country ends in abortion. Guess there are a lot of horrible people out there! Do you know how many more kids would be on this planet - homeless - neglected - abused - if abortion wasn't an option? My question to every pro-lifer out there is very simple... how many parent-less children have you taken in and adopted?

Who cares about race?! Whoopie is smart, she's well spoken, and she's funny. The View may finally be worth watching.

All the right wingers can just tune into Fox News 24/7 to have their narrow, intolerant views puppeted back to them. I feel sorry for Elizabeth H, she's really no match for anyone (on the left or right) when it comes to a serious discussion. She's pretty, plain and far too stupid to ever question authority.
All of you Left Wing haters? Maybe China is the country you should start taking a long hard look at. They forbid anyone speaking up against their corrupt govement (which you all seem to support here with the moronic free pass you give Bush), they don't allow real unions (you know, ones that help achieve a livable wage) and they're very patriotic (you know, like you are when you put a flag on your SUV to show your support of Bush/Exxon/NASCAR).

China owns this country (finacing our debt). Instead of complaining about left/right? Think about paying your bills (not passing them onto our grandkids). Understand that Bush's perscription drug plan was the biggest goverment give away ever and without rasing taxes to cover it we'll just have to borrow more money from China.

The right has been in charge for six and half years.
Bush is a bonehead who has thrown away the debt free white house he inherited from Clinton and done everything he can to turn us into a debtor nation.

Maybe you'll finally wake up when China pulls the plug, stops buying treasury bonds, the economy falters and the bank finally takes away your house...and your boat...and your motorcycle...and your big screen tv.

Then you'll blame the left.

'Cause all those rich crooks you support would never screw you over, right?

Looking forward to Whoops!

I completely agree with G. Fraley. Let's see what happens. Whoopi brings a broad voice with her, one with varied life experiences, perspectives and humor (which this show lacks on most occassions).

For better and worse (at times) when Rosie was there, there were viewers watching and the voice was incisive. There were real topics being discussed with much more depth (for as much as there could be) than there is now.

As fo morals, the "Right" has clearly shown they can get down and dirty with the "Left". That has no credance in this decision.

Since when did this glorified talk show become a political statement? I have never regularly watched View, because I WORK for a living, and don't spend my mornings lounging around the TV, but the few times I have seen it, it seemed the women all talked at once--how boring is that?

Don Imus is an example of someone who expresses himself intelligently? What planet do you come from?

i agree with poster esb. "who cares what these women think or say?" the show is a great big mess anyway, which is probably the reason why barbara only makes limited appearances.
personally, i thought rosie and elisabeth should have gotten along way better than they did. after all, they're both "bush"-lovers. ;-)

Let's see, one conservative to four liberals...

Sounds like to me Elizabeth still has them outnumbered in both logic and brains.

I'm happy with the choices. I like them both.

another chimp joins the View? how about that!

@ trackback
ABC is one of the most racist stations ever, and its sad but we need quotas because America is still one of the most racist countries in the world. You sound like one of those angry racists.

If anyone should say anything about Elizabeth Hasselback, she and her tears are a pain in the ass

I'm thrilled that Whoopi and Sheri are going to join The View.

I'm continually amazed at how the right unceasingly resorts to name-calling. The first comment is a perfect example.

Just say what you think and be done with it, without all of the pointed shots, please.

Unbelievable.

First of all what a racist thing to say that you have to put on 2 african americans. This would be a insult to both women. You should have hired them for thier talents. You all ready got all liberals except Elizabeth who never gets to finish a sentence if its political. Not when big mouth Joys around who is worse then Rosie. This is America we have a law that we all have the same rights.

I am not into Whoopi hosting the view at all, she doesnt watch t.v. or do anything, she's boring and dresses like a bum. no thanks I wont be watching, I love Sheri tho

Sherri is a perfect match, and also pretty and funny. they have finally got it right.

Love you Woopi!!!! i have enjoyed you in all your movies and your comedy shows. I have the upmost respect for you. I think you are a wonderful entertainter and a good person. No one ever hears anything bad about you..so unlike some they keep shoving down our throats in stories. It's so refreshing to see you in the news. I stopped watching The View when Rosie left. It was refreshing to see some stir up some at times and not afraid to speak up. Something tells me that there will never be a dull minute if you join it. I'd even start back to watching it if you are there. I wish you the best life has to offer Whoopi. You have given me so many smiles and laughs in life. And even a few cries in some of your more serious roles. Thank you!

Can't believe those in charge are concerned about diversity--where's the Asian or Hispanic representation? One other moderate or conservative voice would be fair....iv

I am amazed at all the "Hate Monger" comments being made by so many people here. Geez, Simply don't watch if you find Whoopi or Rosie or whomever so offensive... I for one welcome and support diversity!!! Rosie is sorely missed... Whoopi is no Rosie... Kathy Griffin would have been delightful... But, you will never make everyone happy.... Save the HATE comments for your own private and personal journals... We don't need to put anymore hatred out into the universe.. We have too much of it already... Let's demonstrate more TOLERANCE!!!

Revenge is a wonderful thing......it's great to have Whoopi.....watch out Elizabeth......another one of your emotional outbursts and you'll be getting slam dunked.

The View with Liberal, Moderate, & Conservative Views = A Better Show!
I am ecstatic about Sherri Shepherd possibly joining the View, she is far and away the best candidate! She's not "too" famous and she fits in great with the 3 current co-hosts. Here's how I see the show going in the fall: Joy will continue her anti-President, anti-Republican rants. Barbara will sometimes support Joy but not when she just makes some unsubstantiated comment she read somewhere on a blog. Whoopi Goldberg, clearly a liberal, but one who's willing to debate with Bill O'Reilly on Fox News Channel is also a good choice for the show. Her ideologies are at least substantiated with good arguments and logical debate. In short, Goldberg is a liberal but not "crazy or ranting," like Joy is and Rosie was. Sherri Shepherd is religious, sometimes even conservative in her views-sorry liberals! Her views expressed on the show have often been moderate and she is willing to see both sides of some issues - this is another great reason for her to be added to show! Elisabeth is sometimes supported by the "unwilling to take a stand" Barbara. I also believe once in a while even a "voice of reason" Goldberg will take Hasselbeck's side. Sherri will also speak her own mind and be supported by Hasselback and vice versa. If anything, Season 11 of The View may very well improve its ratings! The new additions of Goldberg & Shepherd will make the show much better because it will actually be a mix of "Views" instead of Rosie O'Donell's daily hour of "free giveaways will make people like me" and "let's see who I can get into a celebrity feud with this week" anti-Conservative, sometimes even anti-American, pulpit. Kudos to ABC for not going out and hiring another "all about me" narcissist like Roseanne Barr or Rosie O’Donnell!

I think they will be a much need addition to this pitiful show. They should have kept Rosie and got rid of Elizabeth with her stupid A$$.

If I recall correctly, Whoopie refused to align herself with conservative or liberal ideologies during one View visit. Her comments are astute and her conversation intelligent.
I love hearing Bush supporters spouting off about morality, as if imaking a decision to attack a non-threatening country, resulting in the death and injuriny of thousands of American solders and innocent Iraqi citizens could possibly be construed as moral.
One of the saddest thngs about the previoius postings is the obvious divisiveness prevalent in our county, yet another detrimental result of our Fearless Leader's policies.

I sure hope it is Sherri. She would be such an asset. Tons of humor. Maybe with her and Whoopi EH will take a permanent leave. I agree with the previous person, The View should of kept Rosie and ousted EH. I can not stand the constant whiny voice and she talks so fast. Very controlling. I used to watch everyday but since Ro gone I only tune in when Sherri is on. Listen to the Views and then flick off.

Love Whoppie, but still not watch again until Elizabeth is off the show, she adds nothing to help the other intelligent ladies. It is obvious she isn't very educated or just plain dumb. Mr. Trump is right!!

great choices--wasnt much of a view watcher but now i definetly will be viewing the view!

Whoppi herself has said she doesn't like the term African American and has said on TV that her family is from Europe.....

I stopped watching the View long before Rosie left. It was an insult to my intelligence. I don't miss it.

I'm a male spending time as a caretaker with my mother with cancer and we watch the view together. It really saddens me to see all the hate by all the women and the racisms shown in the messages. I was raised to believe is the fairness and love of women, but time has change that.
The sad thing is the show is unbalanced with only one view represented. I like Sherri for her open and honest view. The love and goodness that was once found in mothers and women has left. We must pray for the world.

Whoopie (aside from her one woman show) has nothing to say, nothing to add, is not watch-able, and folks is NOT a left-wing liberal. Basically, she is lame, inane and will add nothing to the sinking-ship show.
Ms. Sheppard is a half-brained nit-wit who thinks the world is still flat. Wonder what new novel ideas she will add to the show?
Hey Jerry Springer fans, there's a new show for you. It's called The New View.

To Bonnie: While I appreciate your compassione, "more tolerance" is NOT what we need. Our problem is that we tolerate too much, which is why blogs, and hate within blogs is so prevelant. People are frustrated and need an outlet, thus misdirected anger, and blogs.

Even though Rosie upset me pretty often when she was on the View, she sure kept me watching. When she left the show bored me to tears except when Whoopie would co host. I find Whoopie entertaining, smart, thoughtful, well rounded, etc. I think she will be a great addition to the show, and I hope that I will still be entertained and enliightened when I have the time to watch.

ABC Needs to Fire Whoopi Immediately !!! It seems everyone has conveniently forgotten that several years ago Whoopi Goldberg totally TRASHED the National Anthem on an HBO special by inserting profanities (like M_____F____) nearly every other word throughout the song. In my opinion, this was a million times more offensive than what Don Imus did. ABC needs look into this and after reviewing the HBO Special for themselves, they need to immediately fire Whoopi from her new position on The View. Honestly, I don’t think ABC has enough courage to do so.

I spent an hour over coffee, watching the view and reading these posts only to come to the conclusion (one which I have already learned) that 75% of american's are closed minded, self consumed individuals. Anyone with any quality life experience knows when you get 4 people together you get 4 different views! The view is a comical, thought provoking debate - nothing more! I seriously doubt that anything any of the past or present hosts say have any ability to change the world. Otherwise they would be in politics, not entertainment. What they can do is entertain us for 1 hour a day as they leave us with the thoughts of a different VIEW! Often, I think about remarks that are made and try to see where someone of that persona would get that VIEW, and on the contrary how someone else with a different persona would have a completely different view! I believe it's a show that at the most encourages society to look beyond their self and show compassion for their neighbor who has a completely different view and through that compassion, we learn respect! Which I have seen very little here! How can you live in a country where Freedom of Speech is a birth write but have no respect for people who execute that right! I try to find something I admire in each of the hosts, there are plenty of things I don't necessary agree with or gravitate to in Elizabeth but I still respect her position and her right to an opinion! I don't necessary find Joy humorous yet I admire that many others may. Barbara is a great interviewer and that's about all she has going for herself but she is the person who holds the show together. Rosie, is definately too opinionated but if everyone in the world stood up for what they believed in like Rosie we wouldn't have near the stupid kids we have in society! If you watch it FINE! If you don't FINE! But the last thing the world needs is people who watch it yet sit up and crybaby about how THEY could make it better! Start with yourself and make yourself better by trying not to be so closed minded, hateful, inconsiderate and STUPID! I think the correct term to most posters here is MARTYR.

They better get someone on the view with the intelligence to know know how to keep things calm and keep peace between the women.

this is for the view and for Whoopi. Monday February 11th Whoopi brought up the hot topic of white men not liking Hillary and wondered why. It is not to hord to figure out, Hillary has more brains thaN ALL THE MEN WITH THE EXCEPTION OF HER HUSBAND. As for Mccain doesn't everyone think we have been in a war long enough with Muslems which Obama was at one point.

Elizabeth Hasselbeck: Poster Girl for petulant, spoiled children

Whoopie started out with control over the converstions, but recently the women have slipped back into trying to talk over each other. Last week Elisabeth should have been put in a time out. Elisabeth's demeaner was making a greater impact than her words.

BW should only make guest appearances. No one believes that everyone just loves everyone else on that show.

BW and Sherri : Too much personal information!

I'm counting on Whoopie to establish order. JO Aug. 2, 2008
