Santa's Little Helper: Gifts for the scooterist
Whether you're an aspiring or an actual scooterist, our resident expert Susan Carpenter offers up these gift ideas:
-- Basic RiderCourse. If you plan on riding a scooter but you don’t know how, take this class. And if you are riding a scooter but haven’t taken this class, you should still sign up. Price: $150-$250.
-- Corazzo 5.0 jacket. Your scooter might max out at 60 mph, but at least your jacket, with its retro racing stripes, can look fast. Price: $179-$229.
-- Nolan N30 Flashback helmet. This DOT-certified half helmet takes a trip back to the '70s, with its face shield, stripe and logo. Available in black, red, gray, green, blue, cream and pink. Price: $169.95.
-- Brazimoto Rapido gloves. Nothing says eye-talian like these two-tone, deerskin gloves. Price: $60.
5) Armadillo Urban Parka. Like the animal it’s named for, this high-end coat is weatherproof—and armored. Price: $310.
6) Scooter Skirt. You might look a little…strange, but you’ll stay dry and warm and are sure to be seen with this “lap apron.” Price: $135.
7) Kryptonite KryptoFlex cable lock. When you park your ride, make sure it stays where you left it with one of the strongest steel braided cable locks on the market. Price: $13-26.
8) Chrome Citizen messenger bag. Not enough room in your under-seat cubby? Stuff some groceries in this across-the-body pouch. Price: $140.
9) Meguiar’s Detailer Mist & Wipe. Keep up appearances with this detailer. Price: $3.99.
10) American Automobile Association RV/Motorcycle Plus service. It always happens at the worst time. Your scooter dies, and there isn’t a gas station for miles. For existing AAA members, an extra $27 a year will buy a scooterist some peace of mind. It covers four service calls, including tows, per year. Price: $27/year. Info: (800) 765-0766
11) Scoot! The country’s bestselling scooter magazine is a scooterist’s bible, featuring reviews of new and old scoots and profiles of the riders and clubs who appreciate them. Price: $24.95/year.
