Holiday sample sales in Southern California

The day after Thanksgiving usually draws shoppers who want to hoard cheap flat-screen TVs. But if you also have a hankering for designer goods at rock-bottom prices, you might want to check out some sample and warehouse sales on Black Friday and beyond.

The events usually feature merchandise that is left over from retail stores or are slightly damaged, as well as the product samples used in advertisements and at buyers shows.

One of the better-known sales happens at the California Market Center, 110 E. 9th St., often considered the hotbed of the West Coast fashion industry. Though the center is usually open only to wholesale buyers, it opens to the public on the last Friday of each month for discounts of as much as 80%.

Fashionistas and style lovers get an extra treat over the holiday season, when showrooms hold sample sales every Friday from Thanksgiving to Christmas.

• Rebecca Minkoff: noon to 8 p.m. Dec. 4 through 6, up to 50% off bags. 4661 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles.

• TYR: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 5 and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 6, 50% to 75% off swimsuits and accessories, as well as $1, $2 and $5 racks. 15391 Springdale St., Huntington Beach.

• ABS: 8 a.m. to noon Dec. 6, 50% to 70% off women's special-occasion clothing. 1231 Long Beach Ave., Los Angeles.

• James Perse: 9 a.m to 5 p.m. Dec. 6, 40% to 80% off apparel. 6063 W. Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles.

• TSE: 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 6 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 7, up to 80% off cashmere, silk and wool merchandise. 3001 S. Croddy Way, Santa Ana.

• Miss Me, Mek Denim and Rock Revival Jeans: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 7, 40% to 80% off apparel. 4715 S. Alameda St., Los Angeles [see ad].

• Marabou USA: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 12-13, 50% to 80% off women's and girls' tops and many $10 items. 1714 18th St., Santa Monica.

• Michael Stars: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 13, 50% to 80% off clothing and accessories for women. 12955 Chadron Ave., Hawthorne.

• Undrest: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays until Dec. 19, 50% to 80% off nightwear or lingerie and $1 to $10 bins. 1406 S. Main St., 2nd floor, Suite C, Los Angeles.

• Jerry Leigh: 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturdays until Dec. 20, 65% to 80% off attire for girls, juniors and misses as well as $3 tops and $6 jackets and bottoms. 7860 Nelson Road, Van Nuys.

• Urbanism: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every day on a first-come, first-served basis starting Dec. 5, 20% to 50% off already reduced prices on home furnishings. 660 W. 17th St., Costa Mesa.
