Top awards won in Pictures of the Year competition

March 12, 2008 |  5:54 pm

Below is a memo from Assistant Managing Editor for Photography Colin Crawford announcing awards for the L.A. Times' photography staff.

Firephot_2

Congratulations to the Photo Department for winning top awards in the 65th annual Pictures of the Year International (POYi) competition.

The Los Angeles Times has set the gold standard for photo editing by earning the Angus McDougall Overall Excellence in Editing Award for the fourth time in the past five years. The Times received additional awards, including first place for the Best Use of Photography by any newspaper.

These awards recognize a great team effort starting with our photographers' exceptional work, excellent photo editing and the wonderful design in our newspaper. All of this is complemented by our high quality photojournalism online.

Since its founding in 1944, POYi has become one of the world's largest and most highly respected photojournalism competitions.

My thanks to all.

Best, Colin
