They are popping up everywhere, little reminders that some folks are eager for the end of the Bush administration.
C2C (that's us, Countdown to Crawford) has checked out the various clocks, bumper stickers and the like. Here's some of what we found.
Vanity Fair has a clock on its website, measuring the time left in days, hours, minutes and seconds.
Commercially, bushlastday.com offers refrigerator magnets, golf balls, mugs and keychains, all emblazoned with a countdown clock. Neil Coonerty, an independent bookseller in Santa Cruz, told The Times last year he'd sold tens of thousands of Bush countdown clocks through his website.
For those of us who are math-challenged, Is It Over Yet? provides a numerical calculation of how much of the administration has passed. Last time we checked it said 94.05%.
And for those who wish to leave their own message to the president, FarewellMrPresident.com bills itself as "the only website where you can post a video saying your personal goodbye to our commander-in-chief." The website, run by the New York-based Tony Harding Entertainment and Media, is open to fans and foes alike. But as our friends at The Swamp noted, "It's safe to say that you may not find it too amusing if you recently sent that check to Laura Bush celebrating the president's 62nd birthday."
Counting down until the end of an administration is not a new idea, nor one restricted to liberals. A similar Clinton clock was a must-have among conservatives back in 2000. Probably tough to stay in office for eight years without attracting a crowd of folks who want to show you the door.
