Summit dines on 18 courses — to discuss world hunger

Dinner

While Countdown to Crawford is on the subject of the Group of 8, here's just part of the 18-course dinner menu after one summit session in Japan: hairy crab bisque, sea urchin, hot onion tart, kelp-flavored beef and asparagus, milk-fed lamb flavored with herbs and mustard, cheese, lavender honey and caramelized nuts.

The topic of discussion: world hunger and the food crisis.

The Brits had a field day with this one. Prime Minister Gordon Brown had just "called for prudence and thrift in our [British] kitchens," the Daily Mail reported.

Isn't it Gordon Brown

Why is it that not one world leader had the courage to walk out of this revolting gastronomic extravaganza and point out the hypocrisy of serving an 18-course banquet at a summit that was focusing on the world food crisis?
