It's official: Bush sewage plant on the ballot
Will this plant be getting a new name? Will the honoree show up for the renaming ceremony?
To be sure, presidential trips to San Francisco are fairly rare. Democratic presidents don't need to go there--they already have plenty of support in the Bay area. Republicans? What's the point?
But now comes something that just might tempt President Bush: A ballot measure was certified today to name a major piece of San Francisco infrastructure after the president. That means voters will decide in November whether to rename the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant the George W. Bush Sewage Plant.
As the Associated Press put it:
Supporters say the idea is to commemorate the mess they claim Bush has left behind by actions such as the war in Iraq. Local Republicans say the plan stinks and they will oppose it.

What a great idea! Better than trying to name a highway or an airport, it's about time names were attached to more appropriate institutions.
Isn't there a dump around that needs renaming?

Is a sewage plant too nice for that name?
Posted by: Eugene | July 17, 2008 at 08:21 PM
This is so tacky. It gives sewage everywhere a bad name.

This shows just what a sewer San Francisco has become. I was born in San Francisco but I'm ashamed to admit it to anyone outside of California.

I can't believe so much time and energy has been spent on something like that instead of focusing on real issues.

This is so funny. I hope that it is true. What stinks to the Republican conservatives may be delicately fragrant to the Democratic liberals. Bets on the outcome?

How utterly appropriate. DO IT!!!!!

I first read this on an Iranian news webe site called Press TV and I really thought it was a joke! O good idea but I still thought it was a joke.
I love the idea and would vote for the change of name because it is s fitting of the man it will honor.

Ha!
I never knew W stands for Wastewater!
Heck, we can call this whole thing Waste-Watergate!
The Clintons had Whitewater, Bush has Brownwater!
I'm having too much fun.

The beauty... oh the beauty. :)

Wonderful...George W. Bush memorial urinals come to mind. The more moves like this the better. We must never forget how really terrible a president can be.

As a former San Franciscan, I call on all San Franciscan's to vote in favor of this special honor for W. I also call on all citizens of the world, to make a symbolic flush on Jan. 20th at the moment of his exit from the White House.

Oh, please… a poop processing plant named after the Idiot in Chief? That’s an insult to poop.
I recognize the sentiment, but such effort is better spent, I feel, in removing from their positions all senators and congressmen, and the various sycophants, lackeys and minions who have enabled this insane freak of nature to rape our country and defecate on our precious constitution for the past 8 years, and ensuring that the machinations that put him there are shut down for all time
Bush and Company have done everything they could to reward the greed of their multinational sponsors; meanwhile they have displayed the most outrageous disregard, if not disdain, for citizens, our laws and our environment..
Ironically, the people who do in fact process poop are the most dedicated, professional, well educated specialists you could ever hope to have protecting our ecosystem. The science they employ and technology they command are at the leading edge of many areas of life science research. Using maintained microbiology, nutrient control, and energy extraction (some wasteprocessing plants generate surplus energy) the output of SF’s wastewater processing facilities is probably safer to drink than the water from the mountains. It’s certainly better for you than anything the Bush regime has ever done.
The proper way to process Bush and company is to elect cogent leaders, return to the rule of law, and frog march this gang of criminals to the Hague. Naming rights for the gallows this bunch swings from… now that’s something to talk about!

Thats what we need to be spending time on !!!! Nothing better to do with our tax dollers?? I mean when we have american fighting for us lets spend money on a poop plant nameing!! What a JOKE!!!!!!

To be fair, if you're going to name a sewage plant after Bush, then you should name some triple X theaters after Clinton. After all, he actually left seomthing behind.

Regarding the "waste of time and energy", this initiative was organized by volunteers in their spare time via signature gathering in SF. It was their time to waste, and didn't require anything of city officials other than checking signatures. I was somewhat conflicted about frivolous uses of the ballot initiative but (a) it is a local question and (b) since Congress isn't going to do anything substantial, like, say, impeach the guy, this is the least we ought to get in recompense, isn't it?

Fabulous!!! Can out-of-state voters be "citizens for a day" and vote on it, as well? I'm one North Carolinian who would love to join San Francisco on election day. Meanwhile, I'm looking around at our local facilities for an appropriate reciprocal gesture . . . the scrap yard comes to mind . . .

This is just plain wrong and the people of San Francisco should be ashamed.
To name a sewage plant after GW Bush is ridiculous. As I understand it, that is a prize winning sewage plant. Obviously the sewage plant has been very productive to American citizens. The facility and the people that work there have labored diligently for the benefit of this country.
San Franciscans shame on you for trying to drag the name of a perfectly good Sewage plant down the drain.
I think a landfill is much more appropriate.

12,000 signed the petition out of a population of 800,000. Sounds about right, I feel sorry for the many good folks who live there and have to put up with all the lunacy running their city. S.F. wake up, Americas not laughing with you its laughing at you, has been for years.
Posted by: DOn | July 18, 2008 at 09:52 PM
No, you're wrong DOn. Based on W's popularity ratings, one would conclude that about 75% of American's agree with renaming the plant after Bush 43.

This all reveals what Republicans, Conservatives, Libertarians, and Independents know all too well - The left and Democrats have no class. Zero. Go to DailyKos & Huffington Post and you'll see hatred and ignorance on almost every post. Their hatred for their opposition transcends the USA's real enemies. Way to make the world a better place guys!
